I was listening to the BBC World Service a few weeks ago.They interviewed a UK Plastic and reconstructive surgeon-a Moslem guy (? a Dr Mohammed) He said before about 2008 he never heard of this type of crime .At that time some Muslim guy threw acid in the face of some unfortunate lady who spurned his advances!He operated on her and has become somewhat of an expert in this field .... He said it is increasing in incidence. I also saw an article about a Black Lady in UK who had her whole face disfigured in an acid attack by SOMEONE DRESSED IN A BURKA in London a few days ago. So its right to treat this crime with SEVERE penalties.Its definately a Middle East/Indian subcontinent innovation

We don't know the type of acid used. Hydrochloric and sulfuric acids have many commercial uses, but are probably not easy to obtain unless you have a license to purchase them. If I were to hazard a guess, I would say it was probably battery acid. Anyone who has a car can easily obtain that.

It's not "Arab hating;" it is hatred of the practice of bullying girls into marriages they do not want -- and that crosses all ethnic and religious divides -- and disfiguring them, or even killing them, if they refuse.
