31. The RAPE of the PEOPLE
Alf Red ,   Londonistan   (02.19.13)
Bibi Netaniyahu has to be brought to people's court for crude and corrupt attempt to rape the People of Israel! Down with the old trash in the Knesset! Lapid and Bennet to form the new, and I mean NEW Government of Israel! It's high time for Feiglin to take over the rule of Likud - before this old tired party forgets completely even the name of Zhabotinsky!
32. livni appointment really
arne ,   chicago usa   (02.19.13)
has no value--bibi willcall all the shots and be sure he won't give the store away--livni will look good and give the proper image, but unfortanately she will come away empty like others before her. I hope I'm wrong but I'll bet I'm right
33. a different point of view
Eric ,   Toronto   (02.19.13)
Everyone here is complaining and badmouthing Bibi for his choice. But, look at it this way: No one will be able to say now that Bibi does not want peace wit the pals, as Livni is one of the most inclined to do so.
34. 24 Bill
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.19.13)
netanyahu did not sell israel down the river, as you say. he needs a coalition, and bennet has thus far refused to yield. i do not like livni, but i like bennet even less. he is a young and immature man with a big mouth and a big ego. lapid is a nobody. netanyahu needs a government before obama arrives. israel needs a government. people dealt netanyahu the cards when they voted. people are responsible for their choices. i have no sympathy whatever for people who wasted their votes.
35. Bibi Lied Again
Bill Stein ,   USA   (02.19.13)
Bibi sold Israel and the Jewish people out. Where was Likud Danny Danon Feiglen when all this going on. Bibi needs to be replaced as head of Likud. Likud MK's should revolt. She will be a conduit of information to the United States government and Obama. In my opinion Maybe those reports about Qatari money that was reported in the Iranian press has some merit and should be investigated season is too much of a coincidence this is happening. Something is rotten in Denmark. As head
36. The prototype of a psychopat,that´s Netanyahu
Keren ,   IL-BR   (02.19.13)
This has long been said and hopefully people realize it before is too late. Gush Katif has passed the red line already and going even further in that way really-really!-means the destruction of Israel. In this moment, under Obama as president of US,Netanyahu MUST be stopped by the people of Israel because if he isn´t...
37. "Keep your friends close, & your enemies closer..."
Ozraeli ,   Australia   (02.19.13)
"Politics make strange bedfellows". After overcoming my initial nausea, I can see the logic. Bib's priority is Iran, & he will need to bob, weave, persuade, suffer fools, keep Israel unified, & have a somewhat united front toward the world, while still staying focused on Syria & Iran. Keep her within the Cabinet; away from the foreign media; & constrained enough to prevent her going off on a tangent & pandering to the US & EU, especially with Obamanation's impending visit. Oversee her enough to prevent excessive abuse of the Justice Ministry. She is a known quantity. Generally, I think Livni is incompetent & politically disgusting. I had hoped that Kadima would be flushed down the political toilet forever, as would her political "career". It may take a while... At worst, over time, dump Kadima, after getting Bennett & Lapid into a more pragmatic, somewhat Rightish Govt. Her "party" will eventually split-they are all mercenary scum. Better her than Beilin...
38. in any other normal country, she would be behind bars
CHAIM.S ,   54st brooklyn ny   (02.19.13)
in any other normal country, this traitorous back stabbing self hating leftist traitor, would be hanging from the gallows, but in Israel she is rewarded with with a cabinet post, what a crazy country. Bibi has just shown his real leftist colors. citizens of Israel, with leaders like this, you are doomed
39. To: Shloime at No. 26
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.19.13)
Exactly. It's a very astute political move on the part of Netanyahu. Putting Livni in charge of "negotiations" that will never take place.
40. what a disappointment
disappointed ,   Jerusalem   (02.19.13)
We will never vote for Bibi again...this is beyond disappointing...guessing there are many who feel the same way...what a sad end to his service for the country...
41. Livni & the Peace Process
David ,   Columbia, MD, USA   (02.19.13)
Perfect. Bring on Livni to spin her wheels with the Palestinians, and go on consolidating Israel's hold on its national homeland. What is wanted is less "peace" than "process."
42. Just curious,Cipora #24
Keren ,   IL-BR   (02.19.13)
In your opinion, what would Netanyahu had got or made with a "broad coalision"? What for a broad coalision is needed having Netanyahu at its head?
43. Tzippi, Tzippi, Tzippi...
Oxartes ,   Maaleh Adumim, Israe   (02.19.13)
If 6-seat Tzippi really thinks that Bibi willlet anyone other than him run the talks with the Palestinians, then her IQ is even lower than i thought. She sold herself cheap, not that she ever stood for anything other than expediency in the first place. i'm sure Yair & Naftali are *not* impressed. (Psst...hey, Tzippi, I've got the deed to the Brooklyn Bridge, wanna buy it?)
44. Livni, the woman gave up being PM rather than sit with Shas.
Jrebecca ,   Modiin   (02.19.13)
Now what is she going to do?
45. Despicable! Utter betrayal of what Israel voted for.
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.19.13)
Once again Bibi has stuck it to the vast centre right majority of Israel. He has rescued the failing career of Livni, one of Israel's worst ever politicians. Absolutely despicable! This is a complete betrayal of what Israel voted for.
46. Bennett (and Lapid) should flat out refuse........
OH I CAN SEE CLEARLY ,   NOW!!!!!!!!!!!   (02.19.13)
to join King Bibi. Let him try to make a coalition with all the leftists. Labor won't join. He'll be stuck with losers in Kadima, parasites in UTJ/Shas and the Arabs. The world will FINALLY see who Bibi really is. He will not be able to form a coalition and we will go to new elections. Then Bennett will become Prime Minister because he will get ALL the Likud votes plus all his Bayit Yehudi votes because NOBODY will ever vote for Bibi again.
47. livne
sue ,   jerusalem   (02.19.13)
the woman is GOOD FOR NOTHING. There will never be peace if she is to head the mission.
48. @ Levi #2: Washington wants Livni, that's why
Dan ,   USA   (02.19.13)
"No one wants her". I respectfully differ. Washington wants her. Obama is determined to ram a "peace deal" down Israel's throat, whether Israel wants it or not. Notice that Livni's appointment was announced just before Obama's visit. It doesn't matter how the voters vote; Israel's government is selected and controlled by the global power elite. Bibi is just dancing to the commands of his Washington puppet-masters.
49. csn you say fig leaf?
dan ,   DC   (02.19.13)
Livni proves herself to be an even bigger idiot. She will join Bibi now with 6 seats to act as his fig leaf, but she wouldn't deal with him when she had 29 seats and had some real power. what a loser. she is like the person on the stock market who sells low and buys high. can't make a good decision to save her life.
50. #25. Peace comes through total victory with no concessions.
Chaim ,   Israel   (02.19.13)
#25. Even the dimmest bulb must know by now that "peace with Palestinians" through negotiatons can only lead to Israel's demise. These sick negotiations have already cost Israel tens of thousands of maimed and murdered civilians, They are aimed at rendering Israel defenseless, with a 9 mile waist. The WW II Allies showed us the true path to permanent peace. Total victory with no concessions whatsoever.
51. PHEW!
David ,   New York, NY   (02.19.13)
I'm 5,000 miles away I can smell the bad odor way over here. Feel free to place a wager with excellent 1 in 2 odds of winning. Will he stab her in the back first or she him? And while we're thinking numerically, for sheer cynicism one must give the partnership FIVE stars. It's BAD!
52. 42 Karen
Cipora Jlianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.19.13)
i am not sure that i understand your question. what i says is that netanyahu is the only person who has the competence and the experience to be prime minister. bennet made a pact with lapid which he will not break even though iran, hezbollah, al qaeda are encircling the state. bennet and lapid are both selfish and immature people who do not know how to prioritise. obama will be in israel in a month. israel needs a government, not a bunch of squbbling nannies.
53. 39 Sarah B US/Israel
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (02.19.13)
yes, it is an astute political move. even if talks do take place, they will not result in much of anything. furthermore, as i have posted, israel needs a government now. the existential threats facing israel cannot be ignored. i do not like livni, but then i like lapid even less and am starting to have a distinct dislike for bennet.
54. So Bibi chooses proven wrong path over right path?
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (02.19.13)
Livni was undistinguished as a Justice Minister, mediocre at best as Foreign Minister, and approved the failed UNSC 1701 resolution that allowed Hizbullah to rearm within southern Lebanon. So why does Bibi think she merits another shot at negotiating with Israel's enemies? Meanwhile, Yesh Atid and Bayit Yehudi are calling for the kind of changes Israel desperately needs, but they go against the desires of his "natural" partners, the haredi parties. One hared party has already suggested abandoning settlements and other concessions for "peace" as long as they keep their yeshivas and military exemptions. There's nothing natural or wise about such a course, one totally at variance with the Israeli consensus. Though the process of coalition building is far from complete, this is a bad omen. It's said in Israel people vote "right" and get "left". Well this time they voted center-right, but I fear they're getting left/haredi. Bibi is setting himself for a near-term vote of no-confidence.
55. Yes, I'm feeling sick.
Jay Abouaf ,   Jaffa Israel   (02.19.13)
56. All of You Talkbackers Are Missing Bigger Picture
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (02.19.13)
This move in my opinion comes straight from Washington. This is from external pressure I believe. If any of us think they can lecture King Bibi on politics and political outmaneuvering, well guess again! Bibi is the master of political contortion and he knows what he is doing even all the rest of us are totally baffled and disgusted.
57. Cipora #53
Keren ,   IL-BR   (02.19.13)
And what´s the use of Obama if Hezbolah,Alquaida and Iran are encircling Israel?
58. Seems like there will be new elections shortly
Nachman   (02.19.13)
Bennet and netanyahoo will both be hurt.
59. To: Cipora at No. 53
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (02.19.13)
A unity government would be nice, but it is doubtful that it would last given the competing interests of the individual political parties. Worst case scenario: Netanyahu will not be able to put a coalition together, or will put together one that will collapse under its weight. Then, new elections will be held, and people will come to their senses and vote Likud. Lapid is a one-plank wonder, and I don't see him doing as well in a subsequent election. Lapid is much more conservative than people give him credit for being, but his natural electoral base are the disaffected leftists in Tel Aviv and Haifa, and they cannot be too happy with his marriage of convenience to Naftali Bennett.
60. Bibi the pokerface...oh well...
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (02.19.13)
Who will call his bluff...?
