What the public see as protecting Israel by stopping smuggling of weapons and upholding treaties with Israel is not going to win any support for the government in Egypt. Also what government ever won any support in the popularity stakes when they started collecting money that until now the public have got away with not paying? The Egyptians are also not the slightest bit interested in human rights and freedom of speech & religion. What Kerry is trying to do is get Egypt to become an America of the Middle East, a country which upholds all the American values. Bush expected Iraqis to adopt American values if America liberated them from Saddam Hussain but it just made things worse because he went to war without understanding the people he was dealing with. Although they are not starting a war Kerry & Obama like Bush don't understand arab culture and are trying to push an arab country into adopting American values. The best thing for Obama & Kerry do is to let the Egyptians work out their own solution to their own problem Its their country, their culture, let them deal with it their way and make their own mistakes and their own victories. America has been trying to get involved in Middle East politics for to long now and it hasn't achieved a thing so time to butt out. Alone the arabs might even find some upside down, back to front solution that actually works for them.
