1. LED Lights are a worthwhile investment at home too

Firstly, I guess you realise that the illustration is of a CFL bulb, and not an LED? It's certainly worthwhile changing the halogen bulbs at home to LEDs. I replaced the 50 watt halogens with 5 watt LEDs and they do great job. If we all changed over LEDs and CFL's Israel would not need to build another polluting and expensive power station for the expanding population.
2. This is very foolish! LED's emit phenol gas that is carc

carcinogenic. The mercury lightbulbs contaminate landfills and then ground water. GO BACK TO EDISON LIGHTBULBS! They are less dangerous in the long run. LED and fluorescent lights also affect eyesight, studies in France have shown in school children. GO BACK TO EDISON LIGHTBULBS! They are worth the extra expense in electricity.
3. LED's do NOT contain mercury !

In fact, not all CFL's (the bulb illustrated) do either. Stop the panic. LED's are good for the environment as they save electricity, if you choose the right color they are not harmful to your eyes either. Pick less than 3000 k for a "warmer" light.
4. made in israel?

then can someone explain why for a couple of years now in the US and EU consumers can buy screw-in LED light bulbs, but they are NO where to be found in Israeli hardware stores? It just doesn't make sense- another example of how Israel is cutting edge in tech but these tech rarely reaches the Israeli consumer!
5. LED lights
ik ,   USA   (03.08.13)
The illustration with this article shows a CFL not a LED.
6. These bulbs are a heralth hazard.

And what happens when one of them breaks? Mercury and carcinogenic fumes spread quickly. Unless rescinded, this idea will cost Israeli lives.
7. LED's......
Koose E Mack ,   NY NY   (03.08.13)
Ummm the bulb in your illustration is not an LED; it is an efficient flourescent. LED's are much more energy efficient and have a high lumen output!
8. I buy LED's in Israel, Machsaney Teura
Euno Best ,   Raanana   (03.08.13)
There are many stores selling them here. Not always cheap, but they're not cheap in the States either. Their longer life and lower wattage for the same light offsets the higher initial cost. I wish the people who comment would read the articles, or comments before making incorrect staements. We all know that the picture is of a CFL light and NOT an LED that do NOT contain mercury and do not cause mutation into 7ft green monsters.......
