1. There is no solution but there is conflict management
Shachar Shalev ,   Eilat   (03.04.13)
No conflict lasts forever but some conflicts last many generations. The main question is how we manage the conflict? Do we lay the foundation for a future solution or do we do everything possible to prevent a solution? Hamas and the Israeli right are doing everything possible to prevent an agreement which is their doctrine. The PA is undecided and prefers trying to hold both options open. That leaves a small minority of Israelis who are interested in laying the foundation for a solution...not a happy prognosis for the near future. I hope future generations will be wiser.
2. excellent editorial
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (03.04.13)
what must be further recognised is that obama is dead set on imposing a settlement regardless of the cost. the cost would be endless bloody war. obama does not care, just as he does not care that the muslim brotherhood is a real catastrophe for egypt. obama is all about ego and set agendas. if he is convinced of the rightness of the cause, he will support it even if the cause is irrational.
3. Giora Eiland , u still alive !!!!!!
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.04.13)
Palestine will be free from the river to the sea , call it revenge, terror, whatever, we will not rest until we destroy the Zionist entity.
4. The author is correct...Nakba will not go unpunished
Lynx ,   Palestine   (03.04.13)
Nor will colonialism, racism, and violent oppression be tolerated. No more - never again. The land HAD a people, contrary to the lies and propaganda taught to you.
5. RATHER APPALING !
FO ,   Belgium   (03.04.13)
Mr. Eiland, you write in your article: "One is the great security risk involved in withdrawing to the 1967 borders". Rather hopeless to notice that somebody who is a retired IDF major-general and former head of the National Security Council, considers the 1949 cease-fire line as Israel's eastern border. Should I remind you, Mr. Eiland, that the cease-fire line, called the green line, was drawn with a green pencil by both Israeli and Jordanian army representatives, and both parties agreed that they would never consider it as a final, permanent border. You seem, and you are unfortunately not alone, to have reluctance to admit that the only eastern Israeli border is the Jordan River as decided long ago, by the League of Nations, in 1922, and reaffirmed by Article 80 of the Charter of the United Nations. I also want to remind you, that the vote of November 29th 1947 by the General Assembly of the UN, concerning the partition of Palestine, was a non binding proposal, anyhow immediately rejected by all Arab states, so it went off the table. It is not my place to prejudge the future of the so called "West Bank", it is rather yours, by keeping constantly in mind that the only eastern Israeli border recognized till this very day in International Law, is the Jordan River !
6. You want a real solution?
Volvi   (03.04.13)
The only real solution is instead of feeding the PA criminals with billions of dollars, you offer each family a sum to move elsewhere in the world and assist them with their emigration. Many many would accept this and be offered hope for a better future. Would probably cost less and a real solution exercised. Those that will not accept can remain and be too few to worry about.
7. Finally a thoughtful article
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (03.04.13)
there will never be a pal state for the above mentioned reasons. Thankfully, Bibi, and Israel are much smarter than obama and his pro muslim brigade. obama is only here for four more years, Israel is eternal and will NOT relinquish her inheritance on a bowl of lentils served up by obama for his Saudi masters. Hell, that old rotten bowl is now filled with maggots. Watch everything obama touches from here on out turn to the same, maggots. He is a curse upon both America and to our ally, Israel.
8. STALL BABY STALL
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (03.04.13)
Israel's learned to stall like the old 'stall master" arafat. You want to see stall?? LOL obama fold up your tent and make a bee line for Chicago... Game over, Israel 1 obama Akbar 0 The pals will move, one ay or another, no cash, no trash.
9. # 3
Geoff ,   London (UK)   (03.04.13)
This talkback should be sent to President Obama. It should help him understans Israel's position.
10. But the "Palestinians" can return to their native countries
Larry ,   Or Yehuda   (03.04.13)
such as Egypt, Syria and Lebanon. They have no history anywhere else.
11. #9 no need
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (03.04.13)
Obama does not need to read #3 to understand Israel's position. The problem is that he agrees with Salma.
12. #9 lol...one day Obama will go
Salma ,   Palestine   (03.04.13)
Palestine will stay forever,
13. Salma, you've been resurrected?! Whatever....
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.04.13)
14. #3 (x2)
Jenny ,   NY NY   (03.04.13)
And THAT is why you will never, ever, ever achieve your demands.
15. #9:Do you think China has real interest in Fakenstina? Me no
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.04.13)
think so... Obama & US are on their merry way to hell. The new boss speaks Mandarin...
16. $250Miilion to Egypt plus some nifty war planes
Colorado ,   USA   (03.04.13)
Obama is playing chess. His buddy Soros needs a "fix" -- a try at sel-affirmation through making people (especially Jews) suffer. So… Israel is surrounded by jihad radicals after Obama's "Arab Spring" and the Iranians are ploughing forward after Obama defeated Iran's Green Revolution. Too many American Jews are idiot leftists and the media pumps endless stories about apartheid. But where are the Palestinian's Moslem brothers? Not enough land in the surrounds? They can't demand right of return to their original homes in the various Moslem countries they came from?
17. end the occupation first
sami ,   jerusalem   (03.04.13)
with this government no way to have solutions , it seeks about settlements and escalation....
18. To: No. 12
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.04.13)
You can rename Jordan whatever you like. But Israel remains Israel -- and Israel remains a Jewish state forever. Don't like it? Leave. You're going to leave anyway -- may as well get a jump on it before all the best slums in Amman are gone!
19. Peace without negotiations
David ,   Cambridge, MA   (03.04.13)
I suspect you're right, and the Palestinians are unwilling to negotiate or make the right concessions. But my conclusion is that this means Israel needs to make unilateral moves, withdrawing from almost all the west bank. Israeli has to get this burden, this thing that gives countries all over the world an excuse to abuse us, this demographic time bomb, this ongoing security burden. Not for the Palestinians, but for itself.
20. Spot On!
Joshua ,   USA   (03.04.13)
Could not be put any clearer than that. Anyone with half a brain can understand this!
21. I think Salma (#3) just proved his point
SA ,   USA   (03.04.13)
22. To # 5 Wishful thinking !!!!!!!!!
Stan ,   Israel   (03.04.13)
You are either stupid or purposely giving inaccurate information. The League of Nations' decisions were based on the Balfour Declaration which as we all know did not mention borders, but stated specifically that the establishment of the "Jewish State" should in no way be detrimental to the rights of the non Jewish people living in Palestine.
23. To # 5 Global consensus rejects your dreams
Stan ,   Israel   (03.04.13)
I am curious, how many states support the idea that the Jordan River is Israel's legal Eastern Border. I await your reply with baited breath.
24. Israel's security risk complex.
Stan ,   Israel   (03.04.13)
Whenever there is talk of Israeli withdrawal from occupied territory, the Right wing start shouting about security. It is comforting to talk about borders that guarantee security, like the borders we had in October 1973, from Mt Hermon (The eyes of Israel) in the North to the Suez Canal border with Egypt. (That was the only time, according to then Minister of Defence Moshe Dayan, that Israel was close to a second holocaust) THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SECURE BORDER. The ratio of military strength between Israel and a future Palestinian State is so great, that it is ludicrous to even discuss it.
25. TO A NON COURTEOUS STAN # 22-23
FO ,   Belgium   (03.04.13)
I'm not going to linger about your lack of courtesy, but rather about your flagrant lack of knowledge of the history of YOUR OWN country. It is not my intention to fill your vacuum through this post, but I shall just give you a hint: ever heard about UNSC Resolution 242 that became the cornerstone for diplomacy in the Middle-East? Do you know who was the expert in international law who drafted this resolution? Do you know why he wrote the famous "withdrawal from territories" and not "withdrawal from THE territories"? Well, do some homework, and find out. You will discover some amazing facts concerning the history of YOUR country, that you seem to be unfortunately enough totally unaware about.
26. Israel
Sam Tayar ,   CANADA   (03.04.13)
To #23 Please rephrase your curiosity: How many states understand the law or how many support the new "palestinian" interpretation & wishful thinking? I await your reply with baited breath.
27. #4. Pack your bags, Lynx. You are going.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.04.13)
Palestine is forever fictional. The onl;y racism and violent oppression is dealt out by the likes of you. You are right about one thing. It won't be tolerated. Pack your bags before the bet slums in Amman are taken.
28. "Paletinian" poseurs must go.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.04.13)
The author is correct. If "Palestinians" had their way, they would mass murder Jews exactly as their Nazi heroes did. The "peace process with Palestinians" is a dangerous fraud, which completely ignores this incontrovertible fact. There is only one answer. Complete resounding victory over "Palestinians" and their prompt departure from our land. "Palestinian" poseurs must go.
29. #3
yesjb ,   Canada   (03.04.13)
Salma, Thanks for emphasizing the point of the article. You have made your position clear and all including theusual suspects Jew-haters should read and heed!
30. #19
k   (03.04.13)
"Israeli has to get this burden". We have already taken this burden for hundreds and hundreds of years but that's it.
