please don't put your head in the sand: reform and conservative (called "masorati" in israel in order to make it seem better) are well financed and aggressive. most of the national religious i know are completely naive about them and since they are assimilated into israeli culture, they will follow along so long as it is presented as zionist irregardless of what will be (women rabbis and homesexual rabbis like the conservatives have here). mind you, there are "messianic jews" (jews for jesus) who serve with distinction in tzahal. so how can serving in tzahal be the paradigm of "being jewish"?? zaka was not a haredi "me too" for MDA. it was created to identify and meticulously collect the remains of terrorist attacks to prepare them for proper jewish burial. it was not created as a paramedic organization. then, since they were so quick to the scene, they often arrived before MDA did and therefore they started training and preparing to do paramedic work.
