1. Gov w/o Haredim will be excellent, w/o Bibi even better.
Michael ,   California, USA   (03.07.13)
2. Israel will never be able to function
Sagi   (03.07.13)
normally, not her government and not her society, as long as both of these are determined to continue along the same path as yesterday and today. Israel is the most sectorialy divided country in all of Western society. Arab and Arab are divided and live separately. Druze have their own townships. Circassians have their own villages. Haredi have their own towns. Religious Jews are divided three ways. Secular Jews are black or white, rich or poor. Separate schools and educational systems for each different group. Ashkenazi kindergardens and Sephardi kindergardens. A house divided cannot stand. Israel is in serious trouble.
3. real leaders
marcel   (03.07.13)
bennett, lapid, liberman, gillerman, feiglin -these will be among the new contenders. Bibi is finished mainly because he is so insecure, and makes stupid political decisions like bringing in kadima and mofaz or now offering concessions. he cannot take pressure. On the other hand, he has not harmed israel yet. Look at the leaders that you and haaretz put up. Olmert- his concessions kill israel, kill it. Livni, no one is more dumb as she thinks her un resolution on lebanon was successful and that pals recognize israel. And barak, he still wants unilateral withdrawal in the face of gaza rockets and syrian rebels right on the golan border. You want them on the galillee down below. What dumbbells the whole oslo crowd, dumb like hell.
4. When the new government will be..
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (03.07.13)
formed, the Israeli citizens will discover how good it was with Bibi and the Haredi. We had no war and Israel was in a better economic situation than anywhere .
5. #2 Sagi, Para para, omrim v'metzapim.
Michael ,   California, USA   (03.07.13)
6. # Michael CA "omrim"
Sagi   (03.07.13)
Two old friends meet after 20 years in the middle of Allenby. After the initial warm embraces Moshe asks Yankel, what happened to you, why is one shoulder lower than the other. Yankel tells Moshe, oh it's nothing, just for 20 years people have been patting me on the shoulder and "omrim" yihiye beseder. I hope with all my heart that Lapid and Bennet will straighten out all those fallen shoulders because there are too many of them. The 14th of July 1789 was a pivotal date in European history and indeed that of the civilized world. I hope Israel will not have to endure a similar experience. My thoughts over the past few years have centered around this possibility.
7. #6 Sagi, The "French Revolution" may not come.
Michael ,   California, USA   (03.07.13)
I also worried there might be a civil war, but maybe the threat is passing us by? The Israeli voter has awakened and that's a positive sign for the future. Look, the sun is still shining, even for "them." "All we are sayyyyiiiiing, is give peace a chance."
8. 7.
Birdi ,   Israel   (03.07.13)
wow, Michael, the best talkback you've ever written. I love it ! Sagi, you remind me of my Dad. Relax, we are going to make it, no matter what, we always do. Am Israel Chai. Bless us all.
9. Lapid and Bennet Together a Joke
Zechariah   (03.07.13)
Lapid and Bennett together are a joke .Lapid is intoxicated with his Popularity and Bennett is too Extreme All issues are irrelevant to the Threat of an Israel under nuclear attack and all efforts ought go in Deterrance and Civil Defense.
10. Ora- are you serious????
Taxpayer ,   hod hasharon   (03.08.13)
Ora thinks that we will look back and miss $ha$ and The United Scrounger Party - I think not - Judaism is going to be revitalized, as it is rescued from the lunacy of the Haredim, Our young people will be able to start life without having to share the Haredi burden, and the Haredim will be able to takethe journey from darkness into light, away from primative superstition and back to Judaism
11. It's easy to understand why...
M. Davison ,   Ra'anana, Israel   (03.08.13)
Bibi gets a headache when talking about things like values and principles, because they're as alien to him as a Klingon would be. The sooner he goes back to selling used cars, the better.
12. It's our nature as Israelis: whenever a new bar opens every-
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.08.13)
body runs there in hope of finding something new & thrilling. For now it's Lapid and Benett (Oy, that's two bars!) The old bartender Bibi is left in that old, smokey saloon, cleaning glasses , talking to that old girl in the corner.....
13. # 10 Taxpayer
Sagi   (03.08.13)
ORA is incapable of being serious. She is undoubtedly a good person but she is extremely naive and in fact when she wakes up in the morning she is floating on a white cloud and she spends most of her day on it.
14. The main point we "discovered" now
(03.08.13)
As Gideon Levi from haaretz was saying all the way: We don't care about cottages, appartments, etc. The most important is the next DISENGAGEMENT. Now, we see that Labor, Lapid, and Meretz joined with the same call
15. wasting money
Wang Zuli ,   Shanghai   (03.08.13)
Western system is not good. Election is wasting money. It is stupid system. China is very smart. We have one party and we develop.
16. #15 - Wang Zuli
Devorah   (03.08.13)
Yeah, you develop alright. You develop uninhabited cities with 64 million empty homes that have put many people in debt from which they will not recover. Talk about wasting money? WTG!
17. Since when the values become headache?
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (03.08.13)
18. article is anti Bibi propaganda that ignores facts
zionist forever   (03.08.13)
BENNET - the only thing he is passionate about are settlements. LAPID - Other than his plans for a religious witch hunt and his desire for power what is Lapid passionate about? What are his big plans for diplomatic, economic and social changes? His populist politics only work once and thats from opposition. As a minister he will just be another politician rather than the messiah his supporters think he is now, we saw it with Obama and will see it with Lapid. For Lapid its always been about himself not saving the country. BIBI - once your PM nobody praises you all they do is criticise and the longer your PM the more criticism you get. Before the election Bibi wanted Lapid but as soon as he started making speeches about becoming PM within16 months Bibi didn't want him. After Bennett teamed up with Lapid Bibi needed the religious because between them Lapid & Bennet have more seats than Likud so as a team they would call the shots not Bibi.
19. Not a very intelligent article.
Jay Abouaf ,   Jaffa Israel   (03.08.13)
20. China
Yoad ,   Israel   (03.08.13)
But the hundreds of billions lost due to that government's corruption dwarfs the cost of a democratic and free political system. It's just hidden from the public eye.
21. What is Yakir Elkariv's next era?
Steve   (03.08.13)
The era of a Palestinian-enemy state in Israel's heartland? The era of jihad against the Jews? He does not say.
22. bibi and change
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (03.08.13)
the author states: "Netanyahu wants is to keep things exactly as they are. He views any proposal or initiative for diplomatic, economic or social change as a personal threat and a challenge to his leadership and status." This is too general to be accepted as correct. Bibi wants improvements in social areas such as housing and employment, but he is concerned that the Left does not start their version of "Peace Talks" with the PA or Hamas. We have seen what the left and left-center has done to give away our security with Rabin and Sharon. We gave away a lot and got nothing for it except more violence and missiles.
23. The best thing to do is tell Bibi NO!
David ,   Israel   (03.08.13)
Then let's have a re-election and Bibi and the "frequent flyers" will be in opposition with the Haredim. If Bibi really wants to stay in power he must decide if Lieberman is really the best choice for Foreign minister. Unless Bibi decides that advancing Israelis status in the world as #1 Pariah, even with his blind love for Yvette, he must realize that his beloved Lieberman has done nothing but help the enemies of our country to advance their cause of hating Israel. Lieberman is supposed to be pally pally with Stalinist Putin. Anyone seen a change of policy towards Israel by Russia?
24. Read this n become confused.
Adi ,   Zurich   (03.09.13)
Read this n become confused.
25. # 2...It can funtion, it never could and never will.....
Edithann ,   USA   (03.09.13)
To think there could be an Israel for all Jews is the fantasy that never was and never could be. .It's been the fantasy of and for the diaspora only. After 70 years, the proof is unmistakable and proven without doubt; Jews were never able to live together as a nation for any real length of time without coming to blows amongst themselves or having to be invaded etc, etc.. The cultural and social differences today are the same, making cohesion amongst each other as unworkable today as it was 3000 years ago. It's you're own history repeating itself today, so own it, learn from it. Do some unbiased research to look for cause. Teaching children to hate others might be a start.. From what I see Israel’s failure is the final results and culmination of years seeking ‘revenge’ on others for historical reasons, real or imaginary, thus making Judaism a deeply selfish and flawed religion void of any humanity… TATA
