1. UN troops abandon Syria post
John ,   Herzlia   (03.08.13)
In 1967 Nasser told the UN to leave their post on Tiran Island in the Red sea. UN secretary Oe Tant was obedient. Now the UN soldiers leave their post voluntary with even being asked. As a direct result in 1967 de Six-Day War broke out!!
2. If UN troops is Chinese
Wang Zuli ,   Shanghai   (03.08.13)
If UN troops is Chinese, Syrian rebels will not brave to kidnap. Everybody know we are powerful.
3. Looks like UN peacekeeping along the Purple line
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (03.08.13)
is effectively over. Be interesting to see when there is regime change in Syria what happens in the future, but I presume the government will have to shelve the ceasefire agreement between Syraia and Israel
4. United Nations Disengagement Observer Force
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (03.08.13)
UNDOF' Maybe it should be called UNRAF - United Nations Run Away Force because this is what they do. In Africa theUN "Peacekeepers" watch while women get raped, children maimed and killed, they line their pockets by accepting "gratuities" and in Haiti, where Israel was kicked in the butt for helping and was accused of stealing body parts by British Baroness Tonge, they brought cholera and refuse to accept responsibility for this and other failure in that battered country! The UN is just a waste of time and it is time the the Western World and others with a brain started thing of shutting it down!
5. In 1977,in Ismailia Egypt,I was with UNEF 2
Malone ,   Hfx   (03.08.13)
...the UN Force...I must admit we were totally useless..weapons and no ammo is a bad combination...I didn't even carry mine...nice vacation I had on leave in Israel though..lol
6. 8 UN troops abandon Syria,Israel pays the piper.
Keren ,   IL-BR   (03.08.13)
That´s the correct title! Why should Israel even listen to UN and its constituents if that´s UN´s behavior? UN(United Nothings)are ridiculous cowards and Israel looks still more ridiculous for even listening to what these nothings want to say or order to Israel.
7. the rebels have harmed their image abroad
zonist forever   (03.08.13)
Assad doesn't care how many UN peacekeepers the rebels capture or kill he is not going to give up territory he has captured to the rebels just because they snatched a bunch of UN peacekeeper and nobody expects him to. The rebels will now either have to release the peace keepers unconditionally, hold onto them indefinitely because Assad will never agree to their demand or kill them show they are serious. This has probably been the biggest mistake the rebels have made so far. Some European countries and even some senior members of the US military are thinking maybe its time to arm the rebels. Now they have started kidnapping UN peace keepers to use as bargaining chips support for arming them will probably decrease.
8. Even UN Knows Which Way To Safety
emanon ,   USA   (03.08.13)
9. No. 2, you are 100% right
David ,   Haifa   (03.08.13)
10. In 1967, Egypt expelled the UN personnel from the Sinai...
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (03.08.13)
while decades later, UN personnel "disappeared" in southern Lebanon when on duty. And, now the UN personnel are leaving their posts along the Israeli-Syrian border. Why, why should we, Jews, be pushed time and again to make risky concessions to the Arabs, being promised the UN will be there? But, when the kitchen becomes warm, the UN personnel leave posts! We can't, we simply can't rely on the formal good intention of the UN. We ought to rely strictly on our ability to face evil by ourselves!!
11. #1 That should never be forgotten and is
Get Real ,   UK   (03.08.13)
one more reason why Israel can never trust nor rely upon the UN for its security. Israel is quite capable of securing and protecting its border with Syria, regardless whether Assad or rebels in power.
12. THE US BACKED FORCES ARE KIDNAPPING THE UN FORCES
styde ham   (03.08.13)
who are the fools in this game??? obviously the idiot americans who support these terrorists opposing the rather bad assad regime. US... GET OUT OF SYRIA NOW!
13. To: No. 2
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.08.13)
Yes, very brave Chinese soldiers in Tibet.
14. Israel should have refused
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (03.08.13)
Why should we come to the aid and assistance of the United Nations?
15. What a laugh! :)
Ram ,   London   (03.08.13)
UN troops get into trouble, where's the place they run to they consider a safe haven? The most condemned country in the UN! Hypocrites!!
16. This should be repeated in the UN many times
Alfredo ,   Raanana   (03.08.13)
showing who are REALLY the good guys and where the danger is.
17. With peacekeepers like that ...
leo ,   usa   (03.08.13)
18. Correct!
Eugen ,   London, England   (03.08.13)
A paper tiger with no teeth. Instead of complaining to the Security Council that the rebels are not respecting the resolutions put down for which they should be condemed run away, and the Security Council? Well, thats for condeming Israel...
19. UN Farce
Ilya Meyer ,   Gothenburg, Sweden   (03.08.13)
The UN Peacekeeping Farce at it's best - and worst. So let's recap: As long as the UN peacekeepers aren't required to do anything because there's no danger, they agree to regularly draw their pay (funded by you and me via our taxes). But the minute it seems like they may have to earn their pay, they demand that Israel give them asylum so they don't have to work for their pay. This is not only illogical and absurd, it's downright theft. I'll have to try this on my employers - I agree to cash my monthly pay cheque so long as I'm not required to earn it... The UN in a nutshell.
20. What use the U.N.?
Dan ,   Florida - Tel Aviv   (03.08.13)
No matter where the UN "Peacekeepers" are they are quick to abandon their posts leaving those they are sworn to protect to their fates. This cowardice is legendary throughout Africa where UN Troops ran away leaving the defenseless people they were supposedly protecting to be raped, tortured and killed. So here we have UN Troops again fleeing their sworn duty to find safety in Israel, the very same country that the UN has criticized 4,000 times while never criticizing any Arab country. I say deport the UN Troops to Sudan, Yemen, Libya or any other "enlightened" Islamic Arab country.
21. Useless UN
Mordechai   (03.08.13)
Just to note that while the UN supports Syria and Lebanon and condemns Israel they fled to Israel and away from Syria and Lebanon. Israelis need to note how useless peacekeepers are. They don't keep the peace, don't protect Israel and instead are a liability Israel needs to protect. Israel should never agree to a peace treaty that relies on the UN,the US or any foreign entity. Its time Israel eliminates Hezbollah, retake Gaza and retake the Sinai..
22. #3 You'd like that, wouldn't you, Londoner?
Jake   (03.08.13)
23. IL Must have confidence in UN Guaranteed initiativesLOL
Alan ,   SA   (03.08.13)
24. #20 Dan
Sarah B ,   Tel Aviv/London   (03.08.13)
Why should UN soldiers die thousands of miles from their families defending Israeli interests? Israel doesn't have blue berets, but would you have risked your life in Northern Ireland in the 1970's keeping the two warring sides apart? No me neither
25. Is there anybody in charge at the UN????
Harry Wright ,   UK   (03.08.13)
Banky Loony finds his voice to condemn Israel for all kinds of frivolous things. 20 UN personnel have been kidnapped by Arabs / Islamists and he is so QUIET! Is he asleep??? Or is it that nobody has paid him yet to make a statement accusing the Jews??? Banky is the most disgusting head of the UN EVER! He heads a body that has no credibility whatsoever and which is totally corrupt. Day in and day out they are fixated on Israel bashing. NOTHING else matters to those corrupt officials.
26. I'm confused, aren't "Syrian rebels" the world's good guys?
Carl ,   USA   (03.08.13)
So the same UN that thinks Israel is such a horrible country flees to Israel for safe haven after its soldiers were kidnapped by the "freedom fighing, peace seeking" rebels that the whole world is supporting aginst Syria's evil dictator? My head is spinning!
27. Should anyone wonder where distrust...
Matt ,   New York City USA   (03.08.13)
...of the UN comes from? What an absolute joke. They abandon their position. Why are they there if they run at the sign of conflict. UN is pathetic in all aspects!
28. usa forces israel 2 accept these"troops"
shneer ,   usa   (03.08.13)
Israel supposed to trust their lives to these "fighters?" Thanks USA.
29. UN peacekeeping forces
Rhonda ,   Chicago, USA   (03.08.13)
Is this the same UN peacekeeping force that would be protecting a border with a Palestinian State at what is currently the green line?
30. #15
Rhonda ,   Chicago, USA   (03.08.13)
Priceless comment. I hope you don't mind being quoted.
