1. Israel must stop aiding rebels and support Assad instead
Ivan ,   Haifa   (03.10.13)
2. "For 40 years.....
Mark ,   Lodz, Poland   (03.10.13)
That's because Assad senior got his ass whooped and junior remembers. Don't mess with the IDF, boyo, or you'll be kissing yours goodbye..4ever!
3. Rebels prove why they're not worthy of being supported
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (03.10.13)
Yes, Assad is an evil man. But are the "rebels" who are determined to heat up a border that's been quiet almost 40 years any better? It's already obvious how this will play out. These rebels will intimidate those UN "observers" (unarmed, they're hardly "peace-keepers") until they all abandon their posts. Then they'll take over the formerly de-militarized zone and provoke a confrontation with Israel who will be forced to respond. And who will be blamed? Israel, of course.
4. When Obama comes to visit, ask him if...
Harry Wright ,   UK   (03.10.13)
the weapons in the rebels hands were obtained from a Benghazi gun-running deal with Christopher Stephens. Ask him if he is happy that he supplied them with weapons which they now threaten to use against Israel. Ask him how he plans to retrieve them in order to save Israeli lives. And ask him why the hell he sticks his nose into other peoples' business like some busy-body ole hag or is it nag - same difference. Yeah, ask him why he does not use his good office to foster stability instead of total chaos. Why he called Arab chaos the Arab spring - all because he wants the Muslim Brotherhood in and everybody else out? Why he wants nuclear weapons in Iran's hands? That is his goal. Forget the bull***t he spins. OK. I get it, he is helping bring on the 12th Mahdi.
5. I dont get this
J K ,   NYC, USA   (03.10.13)
I understand this may sound rhetorical, but what good is the UN/UNDOF if they wont fulfill their mandate when the going gets tough. Their army is their for the expressed purpose of keeping the aggrieved parties apart and to monitor treaty violation. What use are they if they run off? Im not saying Israel needs to run in there immediately and take over, but if it comes to that, the UN better take the blame for it and the world better shut its collective yap.
6. Syrian rebels' minds work like locusts..
Ivan ,   South Africa   (03.10.13)
eyeing the lush vegetation on the Golan Heights..
7. Yes, you must show them
Mira ,   Vienna   (03.10.13)
from the very first moment who is master, it's the only language they understand being Jihadists.
8. When the going get rough, the UN flees the place....!!
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (03.10.13)
9. #4 Harry Wright - Spot on!
Devorah   (03.10.13)
And ask Obama why the CIA is training the Syrian rebels, especially when the U.S. is facing extreme budget cuts in its own military.
10. Annex the Entire Golan
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (03.10.13)
The Golan is part of Israel and it's time for Israel's security and for justice's sake for Israel to liberate all of the Golan. If the Al Quaeda terrorist want to fight Israel and become martyrs, we will be glad to oblige.
11. Thank God...
Johannes ,   Norway   (03.10.13)
...that socialists were not able to give away Golan heights a few years ago!
12. When civil war in Syria is over
Mark ,   London, UK   (03.10.13)
It will be a totally ruined country full of guns with no one taking responsiblity for picking up the pieces. Vigilance at the frontier is important but a human wave of refugees is just as likely as an armed attack. Fortunately, the border is closed. Instability much more likely in the Arab neighbours of Syria.
13. Taking clue from the Gaza-situation I'd start getting used
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.10.13)
to katyushas &stuff flying from Syria, just as the poor saps living in Sderot, Ashdod, Ashqelon,....have done; oh Gee: that's almost half the country!
14. #13
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (03.10.13)
The good news is that the Golan is superior terrain. Unlike from Gaza and South Lebanon, the Jihadists will not be able to effectively attack across the Golan. This is different from Judea and Samaria where Arab control will invariably mean the end of Israel. The question is why the Israeli Left (including PM Netanyahu and Justice Minister Livni) wants to surrender Judea and Samaria to Arab control.
15. The soon fulfillment of Isaiah 17:1 is...
Jake Stone ,   USA   (03.10.13)
...right around the corner. There are no innocent parties (except for the Christians' trying to get out) in this whole fiasco! The Muslim Brotherhood is vying for more power and land access, so they can use it against Israel proper; but, a rude awakening is coming, at-large, for the Muslim people and their false religion of peace!!!
16. Good for Israel Long overdue.
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (03.10.13)
Take it, secure it and claim it.
17. # 10 Chaim, we agree again.
BUILD BABY BUILD ,   United States   (03.10.13)
ANNEX it all BUILD it all CLAIM it all. ABC's Fundamental.
18. Israel will not stand idly by
Get Real ,   UK   (03.10.13)
Good to see Israel taking precautions to defend itself from threatened attack rather than rely solely on the UN who have shown they are not up to the task of enforcing the de-militarised border zone. Israel should now raise a complaint with the UN and warn that in the event of any attack or violation of the cease fire from the Syrian side it will respond as required to eliminate the cause, even if this means crossing into Syria to enforce its own buffer zone. This at least would lessen the expected condemnation Israel will receive from the UN for defending itself.
19. BLOWBACK!
Josh ,   USA   (03.11.13)
The West wants to support these rebels, many of whom are jihadis. Inevitably, the jihadis will turn those weapons against Israel and the West. It looks more and more like the Devil we know (Assad) may be better then the devil we don't (the jihadist rebels).
