1. Hmm... in nearby Tacoma we still have girl's gimnasium...
Miron ,   USA   (03.13.13)
Considered one of the best schools in the country and proudly segregates sexes at the 4th grade. If I had to chose between being Israeli civilian and not to be Israeli civilian, what do you think this article influence would be? Segregated from Israel and the real world at every age.
2. Sex segregation is best... but not for religious reasons
Vlad   (03.13.13)
Boys and girls learn differently. In the US and UK, schools are currently geared towards girls, which leads to more male dropouts and less men in college. Perhaps the best solution is to have schools where both boys and girls attend separate classes catering to their unique educational needs, but they are together in the same school and allowed to socialize, which gives them opportunities to learn how to interact with the opposite sex, date, etc.
3. #1 - It's totally private ,...
split ,   US   (03.13.13)
No State subsidies including school bus service ,...
4. Next.....Marriage
NEXT   (03.14.13)
The next step should be the cancellation of all marriages. Without a joke, the healthiest way is to allow only coed classes. Sorry you fundamentalist people.
5. Going Backwards
Chaim Ben Kahan ,   Efrat, Israel   (03.14.13)
Perhaps Lapid should be given the education ministry. We need to stop the Haredification of Israel. If Haredim want their kids to be brainwashed and apart from Israel, then let them do it with their own money in a private school.
6. Studies in the US have shown
sean green ,   pasadena usa   (03.14.13)
Gender separated boys score half a grade point higher then their non segregated peers, girls score even better. Can't argue with results.
7. Perhaps you have a study backing that up?
sean green ,   pasadena usa   (03.14.13)
Would love to see it.
8. #4 Nothing fundamentalist about it.
Isabella1709 ,   Tampa USA   (03.14.13)
Read Vlad #2's comment. He is correct. Boys and girls learn at different speeds and respond to different methods. Girls in an all girl school or classes excel. Put them together with boys and they tend to defer to boys and so do their teachers. They don't do as well. My girls were in normal coeducational classes and still ended up in fields dominated by men, but the research shows it would have been easier for them if they had been educated separately.
9. Excellent decision, Israel. Girls need to be protected
Rivkah   (03.14.13)
from the aggression and sexuality of boys while the boys need to be protected from the coquetries of the girls. It is so important for both male and female to be virgins when they marry, but more importantly for the male to be a virgin. That requires separation from the world in a lot of ways. Why is it so important for the male to be a virgin when he marries? The sins of the fathers are visited upon the children to the fourth generation. A great gift to one's descendants is to not have a big sin burden that will be passed on to them by the father's sins if he does not remain a virgin until he marries. Buy some Mormon underwear, girls and boys, to help you to remian chaste.
10. Inciting article
Jon ,   New York USA   (03.14.13)
Even though this article seems like a neutral statement of the facts of the case, the authors' (or editors') agenda can be noticed seen in a very subtle way. Did anyone catch the caption under the picture on the left? "Girls in separate classrooms". This is clearly an attempt to make those who want separate education seem prejudiced and bigoted. The issue is clearly NOT to separate the GIRLS. It is to separate BOTH genders frome each other in the class for religious and other reasons. Wether one agrees with the reasons for separating or not, attempting to portray this as a prejudice against girls is pure propaganda. That caption is loaded and Ynet should not have allowed such low and sly subtle comments.
11. # 9 Rivkah
Sagi   (03.14.13)
The sexuality of boys and the coquetries of girls along with the act of procreation are not sins. They are qualities of, and act of, nature. Sin is a sub concept of the title concept of religion which is a Man made invention. Contradicting nature is wrong for the simple reason that it is "unnatural".
12. Let's leave modesty out of this equation
American Sabrah ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
Studies have shown that girls and boy academically perform better in single sex environments than they do in a coed classroom. Girls also tend to feel more confident about themselves when they are around other girl rather than being around boys. While seperating boys and girls at a young age it a bit too extreme, there is a purpose to gender segretation at schools.
13. Yep, The Stiff Brits have tried it for years, look at them !
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.14.13)
14. @12 it's like saying "See the Kinneret? It's not water"
Miron ,   USA   (03.14.13)
Can you please enlighten public regarding what exactly is "extreme" about practice, considered privilege in Western world, for which parents are willing to pay premium? Which part of it? The part where some Israelis get it from state, rather than have to pay for it through their bleeding wallets? Talking about frivolous use of words.
15. Rivkah
Vlad   (03.15.13)
And why should they be virgins if they marry. As I have stated in previous comments, Judaism, despite a common misperception, does not prohibit sex outside marriage, only some puritanical rabbis do (while others, like Nahmanides, condone it). Of course, your Christianity does, but get this; we're not Christians. Nobody cares for your "Rabbi Yeshua". Enough with your puritanism, and let free love reign.
16. forget its the religious who want sex segregation
zionist forever   (03.15.13)
Worldwide you have single sex schools and in religious schools it is not unheard of to have sex segregation. It may even be for the better because some experts believe that in single sex schools the students achieve better grades because there are less distractions. I imagine alot of the criticism that this policy will get will be from people who are on an anti hared crusade and if the haredi like it then the haredi haters think its bad. If the hared decided they were all going to start driving red cars their critics will moan about the fact they will only drive a red car.
17. Education is not Socialization
Brana Lobel ,   Israel   (03.15.13)
Most posters conflate education with socialization. Social issues will not be solved by gender restriction. In fact it is actually useful to have gender interaction as different capacities, interests, points of view and learning styles can be stimulating and broadening to children. Behavioral issues are up to the teaching staff and parents to manage and resolve.
18. That's why Israel is such a screwed up society...
Edithann ,   USA   (03.16.13)
you like to tell everyone you're all so individualistic...but that's all BS...Your sheep who follow your own leader, ..the ones you pay for... You're so proud of that fact, so why aren't you proud that you can't have a society that can function.. If you didn't have the Palestinians as scapegoats..do you think you'd still be there or out canvassing the world for money and a better life? TATA
19. # 17...But all education is Socializtion...
Edithann ,   USA   (03.16.13)
That's how we are all socialized, education in the home, schools, in the neighberhoods, TV, games etc, etc.. and especially in the early days of Jewish Day Schools.. Why do parents search for different schools? Could it be they want their child indoctrinated with their own values or lack there of? In Jewish Day Schools children are socialized into a society of 'Chosen' with all the responsibilities the Torah/Talmud dictate. TATA..
