1. the choice for the right
avramele   (03.13.13)
Either negotiatiate with the Palestinians as occupied non-Israelis or live with them as citizens of a single democratic state. While one carries a security risk the other would be fatal for zionism and the dream of a Jewish and democratic state. Of course those who worship the golden calf of a Greater Israel will never get it.
2. Palestinians can always change their minds
Sam ,   Canada   (03.13.13)
There is no point in saying Palestinians will never change their minds.. If it is in their interest they will accept Israel. As they see their future state being gobbled up by Jews, the longer Palestinians wait for Israel's destruction, the less territory they will have.Palestinians may decide that self-interest is more important than standing firm to some principle. (no Jewish state). The ball is in their court.

4. Excellent article
AJ - Raalte   (03.13.13)
It cannot be said enough. The real obstacle to peace is the Arabs' refusal to accept the souverein nation state of the Jewish people on 1% of the Middle East.
5. Bibi doesn't care about the land.... he only cares about....
Very simple! ,   Israel   (03.13.13)
his staus and USING the situation to make money!!!... for himself and his close group of associates. It's a cash cow. And they can make even more if they give the Palis an official state and then normalize relations with other Arab countries. They just have to not think about the day these same Arabs launch the final attack on tiny little what's left of Israel.
6. Sam you are not the man!
Jerome ,   Basalt, Colorado   (03.13.13)
Your comment is naive, unrealistic, a fantasy for fanatics! The ball in their court has always been thrown out of bounds and then lost. You are also dyslexic in your statement that their land is being taken by Jews. Read San Remo treaty. The Jews offered to give the Arabs their land and they missed yet another opportunity .
7. Correction
Geoff ,   London (UK)   (03.13.13)
It was local Arabs, not Arab states, that attacked Jews the day after the UN passed resolution 181.
8. Israel's future
Larry ,   Northridge, usa   (03.13.13)
Israel should not, and need not, base its future on palestinian acceptance. Its future, and legitimacy, depends soley on its ability to defend itself. With that premise in mind, Israel should deliniate defensible borders; not all of the west bank, but the area behind the separation wall, and let the palestinians do what they want with their country. They should be told in no uncertain terms, that any terrorism, or attack, will be deemed a declaration of total war, and replied to accordingly.

israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (03.13.13)
So much wrong with what you say, where to begin? The Left talks about "negotiating with the Palestinians" but fails because there is no common ground: the minimal demand of the most moderate Arab leader is a Jew-free "Palestine" and a binational "Israel" with unlimited right of Muslim immigration. Considering that the most moderate Arab leader has about 20-30% popular support, with the rest supporting physical extermination of the Jews you see there is nothing to talk about. Despite reality, the Left keeps pushing the same failed ideas. It is not for nothing that medical professionals increasingly consider Leftism a psychiatric illness.
10. #7 Geoff real correction
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.14.13)
Syria, Iraq, Jordan, Lebanon and Egypt did in fact attack right after the illegal General Assembly Resolution was past.
11. #1. I wish your post was meant to be a joke!
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
Really, Avramele. "Greater Israel"...We are talking about distances a healthy teenager could bicycle across in a two or three hours...I wish your post was meant to be a joke. It is frightening that Jews, outside lunatic asylums, think like you. Moreover, Judea and Samaria has belonged to Jews for more than 3,500 years. Countless international law experts have incontrovertibly proven Israel legally owns Judea and Samaria. Judea and Samaria belong to Israel and make Israel viable.
12. Jewish State
nadya ,   California, USA   (03.14.13)
What I don't understand is why Israel has to be termed a Jewish State? Are you trying to be like the Vatican? No where else in the world is country named this way; for example the United States a Christian State. Obviously most of the people in Israel are Jewish but that is your religion this is not recognized as your nationality. In the US you are citizen of the US and follow the Jewish religion period. I can't understand why you expect others to accept you as the Jewish State including the Palestinians. Palestinians are known as orginating from Palestine, not Palestine a Muslim State.
13. #5 AJ correction
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (03.14.13)
The percentage is actually 0.07%. We are nowhere near 1%
14. Good assessment of Netanyahu
Jon ,   Baltimore, USA   (03.14.13)
He speaks support of the 2AS but works to prevent it ever happening. That is one reason Western leaders such as Sarkozy and Obama have not trusted him to actually deliver even if he does negotiate a settlement.

(03.14.13)
excuse me???? are you totally clueless???? syria, egypt, iraq, saudi arabia, some from yemen, jordan ALL THESE COUNTRIES ATTACKED THE NEW STATE OF ISRAEL. ALL OF THEM! IN 1948. AND THEY ALL LOST! where have you been? IN AN IGNORANT CAVE?
16. Only 20% support @9
Avramele   (03.14.13)
The PM of Israel has direct control of 20 Knesset votes - not exactly a whopping mandate. Leaders should lead and propose what is bold and right.
17. Dan Calic: Why do you embrace duplicity over honesty?
Steve   (03.14.13)
You say: "By publically proclaiming support for a two-state solution, Netanyahu accomplishes something important. He continues to be viewed as flexible by world leaders...." He does? Much of the west views Netanyahu as an obstinate hardliner regardless. I prefer Naftali Bennett's assertion, there will be no Palestinian state in Israel. Whether Bennett will stand by that proposition remains to be seen. Good men have capitulated before him. Why Mr. Calic do you embrace duplicity ("playing the game") over straight talking? Mr. Netanyahu has done much damage to our cause by means of his support for a two state solution.
18. Misrepresenting the 'left'
Zechariah   (03.14.13)
All the left wants is more socioeconomic justice stringent security for Jews and Gentiles and righteous treatment of all Arabs who can live in peace with the Jews.States there only two real sovereign states the USA and Russia from the real deal military context at the moment.
19. The biggest obstacle is our egos
Mark ,   Cleveland USA   (03.14.13)
The biggest problem with so many modern Jewish people in and outside of Israel is that they think they are perfect. They never did anything wrong in their lives. In Israel, from the time Jews showed up in by the shipload from Europe, to now, we were the good guys and "they" were the bad guys. We think everyone is out to get us and we need to protect ourselves, regardless of the cost. Well the cost is that we have become cold, self aggrandizing shmucks. The world notices the Israeli tourist; not because they are Jews but because they don't give a damn about anyone or anything. Refugees come to our borders and we lock them out. Poor people sneak across our borders to find safety and work, and we round them up in camps and deport them. We use laws to take land from the weak. We have become Jews without a Jewish neshama. What is so special about this 'Judaism' worth protecting?
20. Zionists were considering uganda for the jewsh state
X   (03.13.13)
Among several options. Your right on this land is the same to the right you have on uganda: No right.
21. How can Palestinians reach an agreement
Giora Me'ir ,   USA   (03.14.13)
with people who don't believe there is such a thing as Palestinians?
22. 60 yrs proof. Status Quo Unsustainable.
Peter Morris ,   New Zealand   (03.14.13)
Although well intentioned it is commonly agreed that setting up Israel in its current form was a major mistake. You can't set up a state along religious or ethnic lines in modern times. You can have religious parties or ethnic minorities but to call a state "Jewish" when clearly the majority wasn't Jewish always spelt trouble.
23. They see what they want to see!
Moshe ,   US   (03.14.13)
The Left, the nouveau religion, insists that on the impossible-that Israel can make peace with people that seek its destruction. They are, therefore, irrelevant. Forget them!
24. Left is infallibly wrong on EVERY major issue.
Chaim ,   Israel   (03.14.13)
How can any sane Israeli believe that trimming Israel's waist to 9 miles (15 minute tank ride) is a good idea? Yet this is precisely the idiotic position of the Israeli left. This lunatic thinking explains why the left is wrong on EVERY major issue and has been since Israel's establishment. Everything from Oslo to Disengagement to freeing terrorists to ...everything.
25. One correction
Alexander ,   US   (03.14.13)
For about 450 years the land was under the Ottoman Empire - which is Muslim but not Arab. It is simply not true that the Arabs controlled the land for several hundred years. Even during the crusade time, it were Kurds not Arabs who occasionally ruled there. The Arab claim is religious and in no way hereditary or proprietary.
26. This article is true simple and to the point
Jerome ,   Basalt, Colorado   (03.14.13)
Even a child could understand it. But the library Israel Jew haters won't and can't comprehend the simple truth because of their brain disorder!
27. Leftism if left untreated, leads to mass suffering of man.
tom ,   tel aviv   (03.14.13)
History proves it time after time. It REALLY should be looked at in terms of medical pathology. The Israeli strain is particularly dangerous, since it has deep, suicidal undercurrent.
28. ...with people who believe it should not exist?
Orly ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.14.13)
How can the State of Israel reach peace without people who believe it should not exist! In order for there to be a true peace partner on the Israeli side, there has to be someone on the Israeli side who admits that Israel does not have the right to exist.
29. Israel has three choices
Alex ,   Strasbourg, France   (03.14.13)
1. Be a Jewish state. 2. Be a democratic state. 3. Occupy all of it's historical territory. Israel can only do 2 of these 3 things. To have all three is impossible given present demographics. It is in the best interests of the right wing and all those who want to preserve a Jewish state -- whether Arab nations recognize it or not -- to cede to the Palestinians their own sovereign country. It's not about fair or unfair anymore, but about Israel's continued existence as a Jewish state AND a modern, western, liberal democracy. So Israel, which do you choose?
30. #7 Correction to your correction
Dan Calic   (03.14.13)
The countries of Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt and Iraq attacked. Secondly the attack took place on May 15, 1948, one day after Israel declared inedpendence, not one day after the passage of UN resoution 181, which took place November 29, 1947.
