Karen ,   Israel   (03.15.13)

7. Organizers and participants
Sagi   (03.15.13)
are equally to blame for outright stupidity and total irresponsibility. Fighting for love and honor and country is understandable, fighting the elements is stupidity, five will get you ten they win.
8. Huldai's excuse for his mistake
Ted   (03.15.13)
Blaming it on Obama's visit does not help shift the blame but only made it sounds stupid. As a mayor, it was a very irresponsible, vain decision to go ahead with this event despite warnings.
9. nothing better to do
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (03.15.13)
It is a sad tragedy for so many people who have nothing better to do than to run. As if that is going to make them healthy! HA! As a former athlete who suffers today from injuries I suffered when I was a dumb kid, I recommend that 'sports' be dropped from all events whether professional or amateur.
10. To die for a marathon
Mickael ,   KARMIEL   (03.15.13)
Poor guy ! If He had stayed at home learning the paracha ha-shavoua, he would be alive and well. That's what happening when jews forget their spiritual mission in this world.
11. Excel In Torah Study, Not In Sports!
Ariel ben Yochanan ,   Kfar Tapuah, Efraim   (03.15.13)
B"H - Sports in general and marathons in particular are Hellenistic and Tel Aviv or any other place on the Land of Israel shouldn't host one: It's outright provocative!
12. Poor guy!, 70% of the runners were women, Poor she!

18. Marathon

All runners know the risk of participating in such heat but the organisers should always issue extra health warnings and advice #5 The wind as well

zionist forever   (03.15.13)
I was entered to run the marathon yesterday but night before I slept in an awkward position and really hurt my back so on marathon day my back was in alot of pain and I decided I was just in no fit shape to do this thing so I didn't go along. I have done a number of marathons and half marathons before but this was the first time I didn't show up I just wonder if I didn't hurt my back the night before might I have been another victim of the heat? Nobody is responsible for what happened either. When the marathon is planned months in advance nobody knows what the weather will be on the day itself and thousands want to do it and if the thing had been called off thousands of people would have been up in arms. Running marathons in the heat also happens all over. About 3 years ago I did the Tiberius marathon that was hot but to the best of my knowledge nobody was hurt like in Tel Aviv, what happened was just one of those things that you can't plan for.
21. What utter nonsense
silkey ,   Silkeborg, Denmark   (03.15.13)
torah first, then sports.....Israel shouldn't emulate other nations....what utter nonsense. The Tel-Aviv Marathon is and has been a very popular international sporting event, bringing many full time and amateur athletes together.I myself ran the half-marathon in 2.03.57 way back in March of '85. There are always cases of dehydration in every race, in every "nation", but what the organizers cannot possible know is if someone has a health issue to begin with. Drop all the rhetoric about Torah, water being stolen and "imitation." Geez la weez folks, this is modern Tel-Aviv in 2013! Sorry for the runner who died and the others who were hospitalized.
22. #12 observer
Marcelo ,   BA / TLV   (03.15.13)
only seek people can laugth about death, at least it is not like in egypt where apes run killing each other for a overdosis of hummus or to complain for a soccer game...
23. know it alls
proudoleh ,   Zichron Yaakov Israe   (03.15.13)
I'm so happy to know that so many folks have deep insights into the religious causes of today's tragedy, and the sense of propriety to share them. Of course, we heathens didn't organize a pre-race minyan, and obviously waste a lot if precious time thinking think about how we can best emulate non-Jewish hedonism. We were all notified about the heat, the need to drink, and advised to listen to our bodies' signals. Everything involves risk - including risks of injury from gemaras falling off bookshelves. Our job is to do the best we can; given those risks; the rest is up to (dare I say it) G-d.
24. Jerusalem vs. Tel Aviv
Lila ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (03.15.13)
I was at the Marathon in Jerusalem Beautiful, cool day. Now Ron Huldai, the fool who didn't cancel HIS marathon, also wants public, official desecration of Shabbat in HIS city, Tel Aviv. There is a Judge and there is judgment Ron, no matter what you believe. Just as you can't control the weather, so also leave the Holy Shabbat alone.
25. Prize for stupidity - marathon couldn't have been pushed to
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (03.15.13)
following Friday? Tel Aviv organizers have mush for brains and logic. Even more than that, marathoners also stupid. Should have protested to run in this weather.
26. Well, so much for trotting along in that ME heat
Cameron ,   USA   (03.15.13)
27. Tel Aviv Half Marathon - truth
patrice ,   haifa israel   (03.15.13)
There are a lot of incorrect information on this event. The start took place between 5:45 and 6:00, most of the runners finished by 8:00. THERE WAS NO HEATWAVE at that time of day, the hot wind from the south started to blow around 10:00. The decision of the organizers to make an early start was totally correct, we run most of the time in the shade of the buildings and were only briefly exposed to the sun; there were waterpoint every 2km well supplied. It is very sad that this young man died, but one cannot put the blame on the organizers, I run many races, amongst which the Ein Gedi 1/2 Marathon with a much tougher weather and no injuries at all. I guess it was bad luck or overconfidence of some runners which got them into trouble.
28. Mark, that's why I left UK and live here!

SPORT IS UNHEALTHY!!
30. Bamba eating tv watching and internet surfing doesnt prepare
Al   (03.15.13)
one for a marathon. Looking at some of those who participated, I tend to think they spend way too much time munching on bamba. Try walking for a start. Sad loss of life...
