If they can’t watch from inside, don’t deprive them. Let them watch from outside and be identified as the students who were not invited. That would reflect wonderfully on the “demeaned” Obama in the press.

I feel badly for any AU student who actually regrets not having the opportunity to listen to Obama up close—but I doubt there are many of them. Ariel is built on what the world calls Palestinian land and what Israel refers to as “disputed territory” (which begs the question, if the land is known to be disputed, why build on it?) And because it is “disputed land” it has to be isolated and heavily protected by the IDF, security fences and apartheid policies that exclude Palestinian Arabs not only from living in Ariel proper but in some cases from using their own privately owned land. Ariel University itself does not admit Palestinian-Arab students. Only an idiot or someone with the self-righteous arrogance of a “True Believer” could claim that IDF guns, security barriers and the apartheid policies of an illegal settlement provide a model for sustainable peace with our neighbors. Obama's omission of Ariel’s students, inadvertent or not, is proper. In passing, I wonder if Mr. Zimmerman is willing to accept Palestinian Citizenship if and when the time comes for him to make such a decision.

I too did / do not support establishing a college / university (Ariel) across the green line. However, in a democratic society, once a policy is approved through channels, a bitter pill sometimes needs to be swallowed. I think President Obama has more to lose that to gain by the Ariel boycot.

Well, that's very nice how the Ariel settlement integrates Palestinians economically and educationally. But if it is at the expense of making them disenfranchised citizens, I guess you had better worry about Israel's integrity rather than Obama's.

Yes, the politically motivated and mandated creation of Ariel Univ. is a bitter pill for those of us who oppose the settlement policy. But Obama does not have to swallow that pill.
