I think the main reason people are ambivalent to Obama's visit is the timing. It is only a few days before Pesach and people are too busy/wrapped up in their own preparations to be interested in his visit. Not to mention all the chaos his visit will cause for Jerusalemites erev Hag.

it is not surprising that israelis are indifferent to obama's trip. he comes to the country, boycotts the knesset, which is israel's elected parliament, to give a speech in a convention center in front of an audience of students, handpicked by the us embassy. obama, as is his usual habit, wants to control every aspect of the trip and wants to impose his will. every foreign leader who has visited israel has spoken before the knesset, but obama wants to humiliate the israeli government and through them, the majority of israelis. obama, once again, shows his contempt for acceptable norms of behavior, as he has so often done throughout his presidency. it is ironic that he thinks that he will be speaking to ordinary israelis, above the heads of their leaders.

President Obama's visit is simply window dressing; just to say that he finally arrived in Israel. His visit will, indeed, cause much disruption and place security at high level. But for what? He will accomplish NOTHING for peace in the ME. NOTHING. He will just spend more USA dollars for his visit. He will ignore the Knesset but will speak to the young people at universities; just like the Communists of Russia spoke to their young people.
