Israel needs "real pain"? And what do you need --besides a brain? Your posts accuse Israel of every imaginable crime and of being in violation of its agreements for "over 70 years", meaning, from it's inception . This is nonsense. Arguably, only the post '67 settlements are in violation and there are similar such long standing violations all over the word, e.g., "Turkish" Cypress. I do not like accusing people of being anti-Semitic but your comments make it clear that your opinions are based more on your dislike for Jews than anything we or Israel is doing. Oh, FYI, the UN's recognition of Palestine makes it clear that Israel's borders include ALL of the territory within the 1949 armistice line and any that might be ceded through the peace process, not just wht was offered in the original partition plan. Don't believe me? Read the GA resolution. And a ta-ta to you, Ms. TaTa
32. Who cares about ICC, it's completely impotent
Juha Teuvonnen ,   Boston,MA   (05.22.13)
Land changes hands when wars are won and lost. Throughout the arab-israeli conflict the arabs kept starting or provoking wars, losing them and losing territory as a result. May be it's about time they learn that picking a fight with Israel is not a good idea. As far as I am concern understanding this simple fact is long overdue. They keep trying to destroy Israel and they failed miserably at every attempt. Unless they accept the existence of ISrael and negotiate in good faith, there is no point in these talks. What's the point of negotiating with someone who has your death and destruction of your state as a stated goal in their charter? There is only one way to negotiate with a party like that, we call it "deploying ordnance" in the US. All of this other talk about ICC, UN, Hague and so on is just noise. In any event, the worst possible outcome of complaint to ICC would be a minor inconvenience. Simply put, the palestinian side has no leverage in negotiations. Abbas has nothing to offer, nothing he can bring to the table. Hamas in Gaza wants Israel dead and gone anyway, and for Israel there is no value in a half-assed peace agreement that will fall apart the day after it is signed. This is all empty talk to make US president happy, to make him look important, like there is an actual middle east peace process that he is involved in. The sad truth of the matter is that there is no middle east peace process. It's all smoke and mirrors and make believe.
33. #32 The ICC is not the U.N.
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (06.07.13)
The U.N. is largely impotent. The same is not true of the ICC whose decisions are not politically mandated, has the power to impose sanctions and whose members are bound to enforce its decisions. Aside from the embarrassment of being convicted as war criminals, an ICC conviction of Israel's leaders, in absentia or otherwise, would give legitimacy to the imposition of EU and other government trade sanction and the BDS movement. That is why Israel and the U.S. fought so hard against the UNGA's granting Palestine non-mmbership state status.
