1. what does influential mean
mark ,   israel   (03.25.13)
How many of these super duper rabbis will be influential enough to ensure that their own children, never mind their congregants, will be connected enough to marry Jews? Probably very few,but the "not so influential" haredi rabbis may just be the most influential in real terms, much more importantly than what Newsweek has to say.
2. The world is turning upside down.
(03.25.13)
A female Rabbi? what next, a monkey operating a plane?
3. Since when does anyone care what Newsweek thinks?
Trash Newsweek ,   NYC   (03.25.13)
Newsweek goyim choose who is a rabbi? Where most of their "rabbis" .... ain't.

5. Well, the main income for News - week comes from adult only

pages. So, I won't worry them trying to sell a woman ravvin. They are preparing audience tastes to what is coming next, if you catch the drift. And they aren't exactly making secret of it. But of course, for Ynet any porn or junky master is a mench with roll of greenbacks. Business as usual for VOA, load of sewer for any normal man to peruse. Why do we keep these press organs open on taxpayer dole?
6. what is Newsweek's criterion?
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (03.25.13)
With out knowing the criterion or basis for selection the listing is meaningless. The truth of the matter, even based on their criterion of those who make public awareness or are political movers, Newsweek's pick are worth nothing since they do not define the role and responsibility of a rabbi. Was Rabbi Steinimen of Bnei Brak listed? He is the most influential in the Lithuanian world. Was the late Lubavitcher Rebbe listed? His teaching still influence a generation of Chassidim. Was Ovadia Josef listed? His direction is extremely important in the S'fadic world.
7. THE UNITED STATES AND JUDAISM.
SJOERD VAN DER VELDE ,   HOORN NH, HOLLAND   (03.25.13)
ALSO YOUNG LADIES ARE PEOPLE.
8. Mattisyahu Salomon
Joseph ,   London England   (03.25.13)
British Rabbi Mattisyahu Salomon, Mashgiach of Lakewood Yeshivah and previously of Gateshead Yeshivah is revered worldwide among Orthodox Jews, however he may be viewed by editors of Newsweek. Haredi yeshivahs like Lakewood and Gateshead in turn influence the much broader Jewish community, producing hundreds of rabbis and educators.
9. As the Conservative and Reform self-destruct
Dani ,   Tel Aviv   (03.25.13)
This is a Pyrrhic victory for Mrs. Brous and the rest of them. It's also complete nonsense.
10. Shows a sad state of American Jewery
Wise Saba ,   Western Negev   (03.25.13)
This makes the question, who is a Jew, very important today & the need to ask very troubling.
11. Rabbi Sharon Brous
Rod ,   Fargo N.Dakota   (03.25.13)
The only reason Sharon Brous was picked is due to the fact she's a founding and active member of 'Rabbis' for Human Rights a pro Philistine outfit. She's also active in other leftist groups. Both the Daily Beast and the and another publication that picked are leftistg publications.
12. Most respondants' comments depressing
sad sad   (03.25.13)
Are some rabbis responsible for the depression and the lack of intellectualism among these people?
13. orthodox female Rabbis?
ex oleh chadasz ,   Brazil   (03.25.13)
No, I can't believe. If so, she is not orthodox. This is Reform, and I respect everybody. I'm Reform. Definitely, Orthodox brethren don't accept women at minian.
14. #2: Ashrei Haam Shekacha Lo.
Israeli 2   (03.25.13)
Bnot Yisrael are our Blessings. They are our Shechina. Without the women of Israel, we would not be here either. God Bless all of Yisrael lanetzach (vaed) Chag Pesach Sameach.
15. Different strokes for different Folks
Zechariah   (03.25.13)
Judaism needs to incorporate the whole range to adjust to thefacts and form a spiritual framework for the humanitarian framework. The Rich Jewish framework out incorporate humanism and mysticism meditation and mediation .
16. A Jewish boy asked
ex oleh chadash ,   Brazil   (03.26.13)
his rabbi: In the future, as I grow, I want to be a Rabbi too. What should I do? The rabbi answered to him: Be a hazan. Salary is better. Not a joke. It really happened.
17. To #2
M. Hartley ,   Atlanta, US   (03.26.13)
If the monkey knows how, why not? :-)
18. Most commertors are just misogynists! Thats not jewish!
Ze'ev ,   Nbg, germany   (03.26.13)
What a shame!
19. Everyone's missing the (real) point...
Colorado ,   USA   (03.26.13)
Newsweek is nothing more than a disinformation tool for Obama and his agenda. They are promoting the Jews the Obama administration wants promoted as "examples" of who is and who is not important to the interests of Obama within the Jewish community--who will go along with him. In other words, all this is is a puff piece indicating the agenda Obama has for Israel in the long run.
20. Tail wagging the dog
shmuel ,   Merkaz, Israel   (03.26.13)
The sole reason the majority of these "rabbis" are deemed "influential" by this rag is because the mainstream, leftist, anti-religious media wants it to be so.
21. Orthodox too should have female rabbis. I scoffed at the
Bunnie Meyer ,   Los Angeles, CA USA   (03.26.13)
idea while attending a Modern Orthodox shul in Los Angeles. THEN, by happenstance of a friend who was dating a female rabbi, I emailed both of them. Back came a tear jerking reply from the rabbi of how she cared for her partner for 27 years, 12 years with cancer and the last 3 years where she gave up her pulpit and cared 24/7 for her partner until she died. This was the mensch I wanted in my life, I cared for my partner who had cancer for 18 years until she died. When the rabbi decided my friend was not a match, I asked to date her. I found the deepest love in my whole life and while I graduated from university with honors, she is much more smarter than I am. My new Conservative rabbi is BRILLIANT, she could debate Torah with any Orthodox rabbi I've met in my life and win the argument. I had my acceptance for aliyah and as much as I love Israel I am staying here to help her start and run a new synagogue that will be mostly poor elderly Jews. She could be rich working in other cities and chooses to serve the poor. FOOLS spit on the idea of a female rabbi and some will be better than others just like male rabbis. But, the one I love and will help build a new shul with is a deeply religious mensch, better, in my opinion, to serve Jews of all kinds than male rabbis who are looking for a big congregation and big paychecks. Don't judge a book by it's cover.
22. To #1 Actually it's the opposite
Stan ,   Israel   (03.27.13)
In Israel thousands of Charedim (including children of rabbis} are giving up the extreme version of Judaism or even joining the ranks of the non religious.
