31. Remembrance day siren
Eliezer Yair ,   The Netherlands   (03.30.13)
In Holland it was common rule that on the 4th of Mai at 20.00 hrs public life would come to a complete standstill in remembrance of the victims of world war II. 1 Minute of silence for those who fell for our freedom and for the victims of nazism including the 6 million European jews who perished in the war. The memorial ceremonie was a normal thing to do and accepted. As I remember it was a family-tradition. In modern times people gather at places where memorial services are held and stand at attention in remembrance and listen to the national anthem. Each year less people attend these ceremonies. In the mean time we experience a growing number of anti-semetic incidents. Schoolchildren are unaware of the history of the nazi-period and the crimes commited, jews are being ridiculed in the street and called names. As most people just don't care about the ceremonies and continue living their lives this ingorance is a dangerous developement. That's why I taught my children the horrific history of the shoah and together we attend a memorial ceremonie each year. And when we are in Israel during Remembrance Day we join in and stand to attention.
32. he's obviously mentally il but I must admit
sue ,   israel   (03.31.13)
that I've always thought moments of silence a weird concept. I think a moment of silence belittles what we're remembering. this guy is obviously mentally ill so I don't know what you're all getting so worked up about anyway.
33. Ostrowitz
harris s cohen ,   N.Y.C.   (03.31.13)
Give this chap over to the Shin-Bet.
34. If we didn't have genuine ...
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (03.31.13)
If we didn't have the occasional Haredi mental case the 'secular' media would have to invent them! The late spokesman for Israeli Haredim, Rav Shach ztl, flew the Israeli flag over Ponovez Yeshiva and had a son who was a career IDF soldier. Many Haredi MK's have served in the IDF. This Ostrowitz sounds like Naturei Karta and speaks for very few indeed.
35. It is a shame
David ,   London, England   (03.31.13)
It is a shame that he thinks this way. I have always admired the way that Israel has remembered it's fallen this way. If anything it shows everyone the value of life and as an orthodox man he should be pleased that the nation as a whole outwardly expresses yizkor. If there is a funny side to this it is that someone who is strictly orthodox goes to court to stand up for "democracy". Notice that previously he would have blown up the Knesset and the Supreme Court. He needs therapy.
36. He has a dictatorship in his head
(03.31.13)
he has a dictatorship in his head - and this one has to be fighted ! In jail and psychiatry - period ! And before he can destroy more and Lifes ! !
37. # 5 is completely right and
Ron   (03.31.13)
and in addition: how can that criminal go free around and preach this destroyment against human beings, aginst us Jews, aginst Israel? - his sent.: "to blow up the Knesset, the Court, army bases..." And: in all are human beings ! - put this criminal into jail with psych.! Immediately ! ( and 11 + 13 very well spoken + others )
38. next time when enemy rockets are heading to his area,
Jew1 ,   Ashdod   (03.31.13)
switch off the sirens.
39. Parasite
Joe Bliksem ,   Raanana Israel   (03.31.13)
"The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight, nothing which is more important than his own personal safety,is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless made and kept so by the exertions of better men than himself." John Stuart Mill.
40. He has a very valid point.
Taxpayer ,   Hod Hasharon   (04.01.13)
The petitioner shows obvious concern, which he mentions in his petition about his concerns of a limitation being placed on his freedom of occupation- meaning his freedom to earn a living. Since a one minute silence is an obvious impediment, surely the yeshivas being open all week long is a massive impediment and therefore they should all be closed.
41. Sirens are annoying even when the purpose is good.
Michael ,   California, USA   (04.02.13)
With all the smart people now working for the new government, couldn't they suggest something less annoying to be used in place of the bomb or fire alarming sirens? I am scratching my head ... oops, I have it!
42. haredi april joke
bernard ,   munich   (04.02.13)
The country has not to be protected from a once-in-a-year sirene sound (1 minute), but from idiots who misuse democratic institutions. This sound with its serious and at the same same time heart-rending background takes you back to the remembrance of murderous cruelties Jews where object to in Nazi Gemany and other countries, just for a very short moment. And this isn't too much demanded. It's been respect for the victims.
