I am sad to say that I agree with Sami Michael. We saw the pure racism when Jews were physically attacked for living in what racists want to be ethnically pure Arab neighborhoods in Pekin, Sahnin, and Jerusalem. Every week we hear reports how the police collaborate with the Muslim KKK to prevent people from visiting the Temple Mount just because they are Jewish. I meet many so-called 'secular' Israelis here in the UK and I find them libral and tolerant people, happy to marry out, and often very distant from the local Jewish community. I am in touch with Israelis inside Israel and again I do not find racism, let alone an epidemic. Given the amount of anti-Jewish material in the Arab and Islamic media I find Israelis surprisingly non-racist. Even if there can be some kind of racism, that is expressed individually, I do not believe, that Israel society is a racist society. The problem of hatred toward Arabs that could exist on a larger scale in Israel does not represent racism. The root of this hate is not based on race, religion or nationality. It is based on the notion that Israeli Arab population is an enemy inside the state, some hidden enemy, some open. If Israeli Arabs would show their loyalty towards the State they live in and not towards its neighbors, there practically won't be any attack on them whatsoever. By the way such support will eliminate base for continious aggression from Arab countries against Israel. But tell me what Arab country is looking for peace with Israel? None.

Having lived in Poland(as a toddler),Israel(ages between 4-8) and Canada for my whole adult life, I find Sami's example of "racism" trivial to the extreme. I hear disparaging words about Jews every day. Job discrimination is always there etc..It has never occurred to me to call Canadian society "racist". Canada is a multicultural society and therefore enclaves of ethnic groups will act according to what benefits that group. Israel is in many ways a coalescence of many Jewish cultures.Friction is a natural result. Israel is in its establishing phase in its modern history. Israelis and Jews are too self critical, to their own detriment. Give Israel a few generations to integrate and build its future.
