1. Voice of Change...
Nili   (04.17.13)
Where the heck is this op-ed writer living? (1) In Jerusalem it's the Jews who are attacked (2) Last time I was at a hospital here there were many Doctors and Nurses (male and female) tending the mixed bag of patients. Besides that, I would like to think that she won because she had the best voice...stop trying to wave the race card, we can do without it.
2.  Leonard Cohen is Canadian
Canada ,   Montreal, Canada   (04.17.13)
3. Israeli Arab MK's
Danny ,   London England   (04.17.13)
One way for Israeli Arabs to be part of Israeli society would be for their youth to accept some form of national service -- even if they only serve the Arab sector. Everyone should contribute, whether in the IDF, the yeshivot, civil service etc. The Israeli universities, including Ariel, fully integrate Arab and Jewish students.
4. I agree to every word of this paper, it fits my vision but
Yossef   (04.17.13)
we need to ask our arab fellow citizens to show their wish to integrate the israeli society no just through individuals but also collectively through the politics of their MK and the parties they vote for.
5. voice of change
mo ,   israel   (04.17.13)
Small minded auther. Lina won the position of 1st place in the Voice Contest because of the quality of her voice, not because she was an arab or a jew. No one came close to her ability to sing or quality of her voice. Aclose second was the religious girl who was nearly thrown out of her school because she sang before males, how stupid. kol hakvod Lina.
6. Right but it won't be easy
Avramele   (04.17.13)
Racism and anti-Arab discrimination has become acceptable not only in the Israeli street but within the major parties of the present coalition. As long as the Liebermans and Danons are considered respectable change will not happen. And until the issues of jobs, housing, infrastructure and a fair education allocation are addressed more and more young Arabs will gravitate to the dead end thinking of Balad. The Arabs of Eretz Yisrael deserve hatikva, hope and dignity in their lives along with the Jewish majority. I will leave it to the insensitive and small words of other talkbacks to prove the worthiness of my comments.
7. Christian vs.Islamic Arabs
USA   (04.17.13)
I will trust a Christian Arab but I will be wary of Islamic Arabs. Don't get me wrong, one of my good friends is Moroccan.
8. This article is twisted.
Israeli ,   Haifa   (04.17.13)
Positive change in Israeli society? As if her ability to sing is because of " a positive change in Israeli society" and not her own individual talant? That's asinine! Unequal allocations to 'Palestinians' is because the resources are used to murder Israeli citizens by Islamic fundamentalists. And we hea ''death to Jews' just as much! Exclusion of 'Palestinians' from power centers is because of their continuous anti-Israeli, treasonous activities and policies. The 'Palestinian' cries 'racism!' every time they are confronted with taking responsibility for their violence their leaders and Their terror. 90% of all pharmacists I have met are Arab. In OUR hospitals, there are just as many Arab doctors and nurses as there are Jewish. The 'Palestinians' may want to integrate into Israeli society, but the Jewish Israeli IS NOT EQUALLY ALLOWED to do so in the West Bank and Gaza. These are to be Jew-free zones. Hypocracy much? Oh yes, they wish to link themselves to the rising star of Jewish prosperity and ingenuity, while bombing our cities. This article is nothing but touchy feely. There are cold hard facts of our history and present day realities that make this article just another walk along fluffy, pipe dreamy non-reality.
9. Reality, not fiction.
michael Pielet ,   israel   (04.17.13)
The reality is that the arabs receive an unequal share of the nation's resources, and they pay an unequal share of the taxes. The arabs do not pay taxes. The writer is blind to reality. The arabs enjoy the good life in Israel, but the day will come when they will put action to words and rise up to destroy the Jewish, zionist state which they as arabs oppose.
10. No place for Arabs in Israel!
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (04.17.13)
I´ve been saying that since Israel´s inception. Kahane was right! But with the right leaders, we´ll fix things.
11. Christian Arabs
ucant ,   usa   (04.17.13)
Christian Arabs from Israel are of course Hebrew converted to Christianity in the time of Jesus.
12. #1, #5 read the article again
solomon ,   bklyn   (04.17.13)
Your fears of racism are unfounded.
13. A change in Israeli society?
Ian ,   Newcastle upon Tyne   (04.17.13)
That seems to me to be a perverse interpretation. As perverse as the Israeli Arab claim that they are being excluded from society when,in fact,THEY are excluding themselves. Could the truth of the matter be that Ms Makhoul is realizing her potential and achieving success in Israel because SHE has made an effort? THREE CHEERS FOR ISRAEL!!!
14. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia
Salma ,   Palestine   (04.17.13)
Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is our true home, under the rule of our true King. I´ve been warning my brothers and sisters that despite being profitable to hold Israeli identity,we don´t belong to Israel. The envy my brothers and sisters feel for Israel only destroys us. We need to move on to where we belong. I´m confident that in a time soon we´ll be reunited under the rule of our beloved King. إن شاء الله
15. Leanard Cohen is canadian

FROM MONTREAL.
16. Racism??? #6
Avi ,   NYC   (04.17.13)
Are you aware that since Jews and Arabs are of similar racial stock your term doesn't apply here?
17. #6 Ha-ha, hypocrite
(04.17.13)
You're the kind of guy who imagines some sort of anti-Arab discrimination while closing your eyes to Arab to Jew violence. Typical example of the self-loathing Jew. Was that "insensitive" enough?
18. False flag: jews hate Arabs
Viet Remembered   (04.17.13)
19. #10, Cipora...Kahane was right and you are
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (04.17.13)
also absolutely right ! Thank you for your courage !!!
20. The voice of change
George Weiss ,   Teaneck, USA   (04.17.13)
Prof. Yossi Yona is living in another world. This whole article is full of miguided and untue statements. I wonder what she is professor of and what university gave her the degree.
21. The Common Threat
Zechariah   (04.18.13)
In the decades ahead Jew and Arab need combine to defend the Holy Land and all Peace Loving People from attack by Criminally Insane Fanatical Groups of the whole spectrum of Psycho Genocidalists.
22. Come on....!
rinah   (04.18.13)
I love Lina, however we need to guard what is ours. If we don't, who will?
23. You spoke the final bottom line, #7
Cameron ,   USA   (04.18.13)
Damned if I will ever have any real faith or trust in Muslims. Our ancestors had no illusions as to the true nature of who & what Muslims are. The years of endless ding-dong murder and mayhem but confirm their past wisdom in assessing the Muslim lands.
24. Typical brabble with only slogans and no arguments
Daniel ,   TA _ IL   (04.18.13)
but then both BG Uni, whose members clled for a boycot of Israel and the van leer institute, according to my granddmother a collaborator with cleaning holland from jews, are leftwing antizionists
25. Full intergration of Arabs is in Jewish interest
Andi ,   Israel   (04.18.13)
Look at how the birth rate of Israeli Arab women has fallen now they are fully educated. Arabs deserve full intergration because I don't want to live in a racist country However they have to show willingness also by for example doing civilian national service as Jews do. At present Arabs start to work/study 2-3 years befor Jews as they don't do army/civilian national service in the main-that's discrimnation against Jews. Also they should find some Arab MP's who are actually interested in furthering the State of Israel in which they live, and not just rights of non Israeli Palestinians
26. change?
Larry ,   Los Angeles   (04.18.13)
The Arab-Israeli public has not given up. It wants to integrate into Israeli society, Some yes, others violently no, many Arabs are in between the two opinions.
27. The voice of change.
Elsie. ,   Gush Halav.   (04.18.13)
#9 #26 Michael, where did you get this nonsense from ,Arabs don't pay taxes? ofcause they do, nothing is for free, Larry sadly you will never change and that is sad. The Arab-Israeli s that Iknow and know of are hard workers, loyal to the state of Israel, many do the army or hospital work, perhaps if you started to talk more and be less negative about them ,yout attiude would change ,give it a try.
28. Jewish American artist Leonard Cohen
Jean Premont ,   Montreal, Canada   (04.18.13)
After this beautiful and inspiring article, please indulge a little narcissism from me as Leonard is actually a Jewish CANADIAN raised in Montreal. My kids went to the same Roslyn Elementary School he attended to. Cheers!
29. Elsie #27, Stop trying to muddy the waters
Jake   (04.18.13)
It is an unassailable fact that the Arab sector lags behind the Jewish sector in payment of taxes, by leaps and bounds, especially regarding the payment of the 'Arnona' municipal tax. There is also a higher rate of tax evasion and "cooking the books" in the Arab sector than in the Jewish sector. Only on sales tax, which cannot be avoided, is there any kind of equality between the sectors.
30. Israeli Arabs deny Israel's right to exist
BenGurionUAnarchists ,   Jerusalem   (04.19.13)
Your story has no merit as you ignore the fact that they constantly vote politicians in that deny Israel's right to exist, you can argue for social justice but you cannot justify their denial of the right of a Jewish state to exist and thats what both Arab Israeli Moslems and Christians do
