31. #4 We know that
Mickey ,   Sydney, australia   (04.28.13)
The Israelis know that. Its the Pals who refuse peace because they will have to stop hating and trying to kill Jews
32. #15 you live in Canada, not Israel.. Are you for real?
Larry. Oleh 45 years   (04.28.13)
Get out of Canada if its so hard?!
33. #23
Michael ,   Haifa. Israel   (04.28.13)
You are speaking rubbish. My experience of working and living in Israel has been very good. I don't know where you get that info from. I have been living here for 5 years
34. I made aliyah nearly 45 years ago
Rivkah F. ,   jeruslaem   (04.28.13)
In June 1968, I made aliyah from New York.. I met my husband several years later. He made aliyah from Boston. There are many intangible rewards .., the holidays, the family connections, and seeing our kids grow up as Jews in a Jewish country and now our grandchildren. There is always room for improvement and change but on the whole, it is easier to live in Israel than it was several decades ago and despite ups and downs in our "careers", both my husband and I are glad we settled here and live here.

Sarah ,   Rehovot   (04.28.13)
Hey. I totally get you. My husband was raised here but is not from here. He is not is not Israeli in most ways and he came to understand that I will not stay here. He is finishing some degree up and then we will leave. He sees how utterly miserable I am here and is open to leaving for good. I think he understands at which point I am fed up. As for you, I wish we could get a coffee and talk this over, but how to do this through ynet? You need to think long and hard as to whether you can adapt to the life here. Can you make the necessary compromises? Can you learn not to let their nastiness get the better of you? Will you be ok mentally? These are all things to think about. As for nice American Jewish girls, there are some. I for one am one - wasn't raised very Jewish, never had many Jewish friends, grew up the opposite of jappy, even if my family had the means - we have nothing to prove and no need to show off.. There are other people who grew up like me, but the ones who grew up spoiled little brats far outnumber us. I know plenty of nice Jews around the world, though most of my good friends are not Jews....anyways, write back.
36.  THE KEY TO SUCCESSFUL ALIYAH
CAPTAIN OBVIOUS ,   SAFED OPERA HOUSE   (04.28.13)
As a good friend just told me ,to live successfully and happily here in Eretz Israel one needs to believe .It helps to really believe ,whether in zionism ,or Torah or both or many things. Without belief ,it can be hard to continue.
37. Bye bye ,...

38. #36 The key is money
ex oleh chadash ,   Brazil   (04.29.13)
Israel is expensive, no jobs. People still dream of Zionism. They are naive. It's OK. I was like all those people when I was a teenager, years ago, me too. Good luck them all, but don't be surprise if you go back to your country of origin soon, and your doctor there prescribes you something like fluoxetin to take. Happens to many people, happened to me.
39. The number is near 100,000 Jewsih Immigrants with Nefesh
johnny mookergee ,   la paz, bolivia   (04.29.13)
The site of 1000 jews moving to Israel is wonderful,The work Nefesh does for the State of Israel is beyond Magically.AM YISROEL CHAI.

Mr. Bolivia   (04.29.13)
Nefesh is for Anglos only, did you know? Then, they say they are not racist. They are racist, of course! Sudacas are not eligible.
41. Sarah #26, By all means, leave.
Jake   (04.29.13)
Just don't try to give other people "advice". Just because you failed or got disappointed in Israel, you shouldn't assume that you will be joined by others for a group whine, so don't bother trying to recruit a "minyan" of kvechers. Just make yourself scarce quietly and with dignity. Given your attitude, you will hardly be missed.
42. #7, Land of Opportunity??
Jake   (04.29.13)
Not even in the most impoverished corners of Europe do they believe that nonsense. the Declining Empire is a land of opportunity only for third worlders, primarily thousands of Africans who enter the US yearly under the Diversity Visa program, as well as millions of illegals from Central America. Besides, you are dead wrong to believe that most these American Jews have a naieve approach to Aliyah. Rest assured that all of them know that they will take a hit in standard of living by moving to Israel. But for most of them, who are traditional or religious, living in the Land of Israel among Jews means a lot more to them than having a bigger home, bigger cars, a bigger garden, and more $$$$.
43. #11, Looking a gift horse in the mouth?
Jake   (04.29.13)
Most of them have been donating to Israel for years as private donors, not to mention as American taxpayers. Ungrateful jerk.
44. #13 Eliana, got some statistics to back up your claims?
Jake   (04.29.13)
What percentage of American Jewish immigrants to Israel end up permanently leaving Israel and returning to America? I would be curious to know. Of all the American Jews I know who made Aliyah years ago, not a single one has left Israel, or seriously intends to do so. To be sure, if one does not have expectations, one won't be disappointed. But why do you assume that these American Jews are deluded and believe that the streets of Israel are paved with gold?
45. I met some people
Lashon ha-ra ,   sad, but true   (04.30.13)
that used to say you they were very Zionists, but they were not. They made mistakes in their countries of origin, and were looking for some place to run away...so they remembered they were from Jewish origin. You know that, it's plenty of rubbish junky people in Israel. Of course, there are good olim. Naive people. BTW - are all Israelis good and nice people?
46. Almost 7 years later, REGRET
Michelle ,   Tel Aviv   (04.30.13)
Reading this article I'm reminded of my pie in the sky view of zionist Israel, until I got here. High rent costs, high cost of living and low wages which leave you perpetually broke or scraping even make living here a challenge. Everything imported here is 4x the cost in the States, and you always feel like you're being ripped off and grossly underpaid at the same time. Had I had the opportunity to change my mind, I would have. Free ulpan from the state is quite simply....a joke and I only started learning Hebrew when I started shelling out my own hard earned money to go somewhere with actual BOOKS, teachers who didn't repeat the same lessons two days in a row and actually employed some sort of 'teaching method.' As an Anglo, lord help you if you do not learn Hebrew! Until I had a good base in Hebrew, I was essentially unemployable. Sure, all of my work is in English and I'm educated and experienced in my field, but most Israeli bosses want to ramble at you and send you Hebrew emails with their demans, rather than speak English. Furthermore, Israelis aren't usually comofortable with English speakers and usually tend to ignore them or only approach them WHEN THEY NEED HELP IN ENGLISH. Get ready to work long, hard hours for very little pay and with that, usually little respect from your new Israeli slavedriver. Oh wait, I mean 'boss.' In Israel's credit, the taxes are sky high but you do get a return. I think healthcare here is very good, it's very affordable and we do have great social services here like unemployment, maternity leave, etc. Good luck and I can understand why Anglos would come to Israel, given the trouble finding work and benefits Stateside. While Israel might be a better option for the now, I would do anything to be back in the states, and wish I never came here. I don't regret it, but I wouldn't come, if I had the option to do it again. It's not worth it......
47. Michelle thank you 4 ur candid view

48. #11 No traitors
Mickey ,   Sydney , Australia   (04.30.13)
A traitor is a person supporting or fighting for an enemy country. Those western Jewish youth who go to the Israeli army are not traitors as their countries are not at war with Israel. Many armies have citizens as members of other countries. Australia, for example have citizens serving in the British, New Zealand, American, Canadian, Israeli, Greek armies among others. They are not considered as traitors because Australia does not have any conflict with those countries

"Most of them have been donating to Israel for years as private donors" ,... I don't mind if they donate from their own pockets but if they deduct it from their taxes that pisses me of because the government has to impose additional taxes on already overtaxed six-pack-joe to fill the gap or cut some services to their folks,... By the way, no other minority can donate to other countries and write it off from their taxes ,... You guys hate when the moochers in Mea Shearim are ripping you off but you see nothing wrong with you screwing Americans ,...

the local Jewish community" Of course, I do to.
51. #49, Oh really?
Jake   (05.01.13)
Let's see if you can find a single US law or clause in the tax code that grants an exception to those donating to Israel. You made that up entirely.

split ,   US   (05.01.13)
You should know by now that if I write something you can take it to the bank - US donations are not only tax-deductible but in some cases finance settlements despite that according to an international law and our policy those settlements are illegal ,... Google "A New York Times examination of public records in the United States and Israel identified at least 40 American groups that have collected more than $200 million in tax-deductible gifts for Jewish settlement in the West Bank and East Jerusalem over the last decade" and knock yourself out ,...

Crap !!! In my book traitor is the one that favors an interest of foreign country at the expense of the one he lives in and enjoys all the privileges coming with the status ,...
54. split, #52, google "Holy Land Foundation"
Jake   (05.02.13)
AS you know, there was the "Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development" that was collecting money in the US and making tax-exempt donations to Moslems in the Middle East, and that was permitted, UNTIL it was discovered that the recepients of the "charity money" were Hamas and other Islamic terrorist organizations. It was then closed down as an illegal terrorist organization operating in the United States. And don't think that's the end of it. A lot of Arab businesses in the US have a little "collection box" to collect money for "charity".

56. Dropping
Debbie ,   Mainstreet, USA   (05.03.13)
To the one named Split who's posting here, You seem to have an axe to grind with people whom you call "traitors". I hate to clue you in but there are hundreds of thousands of US citizens, living, working and doing a whole lot of other things, in countries all over the world. You're saying that they are traitors? Israel is one of the countries that may have the lowest number of US ex-pats. When you figure how many US citizens live all over Europe, etc. Its very acceptable in this day and age for people to live all over the world, for many many reasons. You sound very old fashioned! Get with it, Split!
57. Drop
Debbie ,   israel   (05.03.13)
PHILOS, You sound like a total and complete nut case. Are you a paranoid schizophrenic? Do you know how many hundreds of thousands of young people who came from other countries and were not born in Israel, there are in the IDF? Are you serious?
58. # 56 ,...
split ,   US   (05.04.13)
You have a way to go to read simple sentences and process it correctly. One more time ,... In my book traitor is the one that favors an interest of foreign country at the expense of the one he lives in and enjoys all the privileges coming with the status ,... So if you're US citizen and want donate money do in US there're plenty of needy people here, don't send to Israeli settlers, deduct from taxes and make me pay for it. If you're US citizen and want to serve do it in US Armed Forces not IDF,... get it ? ,...
