It may surprise Lapid but in many places the theatres are closed on Sunday and shops are closed or close early. It took years of discussions in British Parliament to agree on limited hours for Sunday shopping and a guarantee that no Christian can be required to work on Sunday. Israel's transport employees have a right to be off on Shabbat. There was a time I recall in America from my childhood when you couldn't mow your lawn on Sunday and sports fixtures could only take place in the afternoon, after church services on Sunday.

While I am a big fan of Israel I have never really conteplated aliyah cos I find the haredi impact on life so repugnant.
