Deri's record is certainly nothing to boast about but this is not about him its about Lapid whose only policy since taking office has been attack the hared. He has done very little to actually benefit the country but he is regularly picking fights with the hared over something or other or supporting secular groups like Women of the Wall and doing it all very publicly. Lapid knows secular voters like to see him tear the haredi apart more than anything else and his thinking is give the people what they want to see that way they will vote for you on election day. Lapid knows eventually if he is going to be in politics he will eventually have to make choices that will make him enemies so counter that by keeping the war on the haredi front page news, get people to see him as the man who is not afraid to take on the haredi rather than a another politician. You don't have to like Deri or the haredi but all Lapid is trying to do is boost his image, give the secular audience what they want to see.
