1. Congratulations women...there has never
Israeli 2   (04.26.13)
been a ban for women to pray anywhere - also with pants and a tie if she wishes. לבוש זכרים?
2. Finally someone made the right decision
Sam Sweiry ,   Eastbourne UK   (04.26.13)
OK.. OK.. we dont agree with what is customary and traditional but - we live in a modern world - so thank you to Israel judicials who finally put a rubber stamp on what Modern Jewish Women could and couldnt do in our modern world
3. Robinson's Arch
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (04.26.13)
The whole point of the Supreme Court ruling giving the section of the Western Wall known as Robinson's Arch to Women of the Wall was to give them the freedom to violate local Minhag Jerusalem which objects to women wearing tefillin in public or wearing a man's tallis.
4. Avoda Zarah this is! Divisive baseless hatred is a sad thing
(04.26.13)
5. Hmmmm.
Sane ,   Manchester   (04.26.13)
I think that a loud praying of 'v'lamalshinim' every time these anti-judaism activists turn up may give them the hint that their breaking of jewish law at the holiest jewish site is not appreciated
6. Now watch the nutters start to riot.
(04.26.13)
7. So
Sane ,   Manchester   (04.26.13)
So now the religion of the western war is turned by left-wing 'justices' into cristianity mark 2 (the second reform judaism)
8. I don't get it
Ephraim ,   Jerusalem   (04.27.13)
I don't understand. People here are arguing for rights at a religious place for people who do not believe in the religion. That makes absolutely no sense. No one stops anyone in Israel from practicing their religious beliefs in their own home, synagogue, church, or mosque. Judaism has rules and traditions. These women do not believe in those rules. If they don't believe in the religion, then why go to the Wall at all except to start trouble and ruin the experience for the people who actually do follow the religion. Israel is not Iran. Women can walk around in bikinis, they work, study, and have every other right as men. They do not, or should not have the right to infringe on others in their holy places. It is ironic that this story comes out on Lag B'omer. We have obviously learned nothing from our history.
9. Now that they've "won" they won't come to pray there anymore
(04.27.13)
They will now petition for the right to pray in Mea Shearim on the men's side of the batei knesset. Sing it Tina: "what's god got ta do, got ta do with it..."
10. "many of whom are English-speaking immigrants" who don't
L ,   Merkaz, Israel   (04.28.13)
understand that "Reform" is the ebola-virus of US Judaism, liquifying all vital organs of Judaism. Responsible for the 80% intermarriage rate there, WE DON'T WANT THEM HERE. Their American adoption of law-suit-happy "lawfare" as a means to political ends is also disgusting. They have a "director of public relations"! That's ALL they're about -- this has nothing to do with "spirituality". This is all the "(anti)Religious Action Committee" of the Reform movement led by "Rabbi" Gilad Kariv, among others, trying to creep their American political agenda tentacles into Israel. Keep your viral self-immolating self-hating agenda-mongering to yourselves in America where you've already done irrevocable damage to our people! We don't need that here in Israel. Here in Israel people can choose to observe the Torah or they can choose NOT to observe it. They can choose to observe some of it to whatever degree they wish or none of it -- but they don't give it a name and call it a "branch" of Judaism. What hypocrisy and how alien to the Israeli mentality. Butt out.
11. "all denominations in cluding Orthodox women"? Nuh-UH!
(04.28.13)
Somebody is confused as to the definition of Orthodox here. NO Orthodox women would be a part of this group. Nice try at legitimizing. Truth was in the first line: "the image of the group has been that of Reform Jews". Reform Americans offended that nobody in Israel knows what a "Reform Jew" is. Israelis don't do that kind of BS. In Israel people observe some or all or none of the mitzvot as they choose. They either go to synagogue or they don't -- but they certainly don't drive right into the synagogue parking lot on Yom Kippur alongside the Rabbi's car and say "it's cool -- we're 'Reform' !"
12. #8 Ephraim - let me explain
Carl ,   USA   (04.28.13)
These women are Jewish. They believe in Judaism. Until now they were being prohibited from practicing Jewish rites at the holiest of places by authorities of the state of Israel. Now they have legal rights to practice Judaism.
13. legal victory
fiona ,   jerusalem   (04.28.13)
Well done Women of the Wall! Your committment and belief scored a crucial victory for Israeli women and for Jewish women all over the world. The comments and jibes of those apparently threatened is worrying. Fellow Jews indeed.........
14. #12 Carl
Ephraim ,   Jerusalem   (04.28.13)
Sorry Carl, but these women are ultra extreme left-wing fanatics that use the Wall to further their extreme agenda. It seems that way to you from afar, but these women are known here, and they are just starting trouble for trouble's sake. It's a matter of respect for religion and for others. I grew up in a completely secular family, and I totally disagree with this court decision. If even one Jew is offended, they should not do it. They can put their Tefillin on at home or in their own synagogue, but not at the Kotel. Catholic women do not wear string bikinis to church. Again, it's about respect. They have none.
15. Leftist Lunatic women make even religion look good!
tom ,   tel aviv   (04.28.13)
16. When in Rome . . .
Joseph ,   London UK   (05.12.13)
When Queens, Princesses and frmale Prime Ministers visit the Pope they dress in black and wear a black veil or black hat to cover their hair. When H M The Queen, HRH Princess Diana and Rt Hon Margaet thatcher visited the King of Saudi at different time they word skirts to the ankles and covered their hair. When H M The Queen visited a Hindu temple, she removed her shoes. When Presidents, popes and princes visited the western Wall or a synagogue they wore a cappel or Yamulka. On entering a church men remove their hats. Religions have etiquette and one should not turn a visit to the Kotel into a confrontation by offending local custom. Let WoW demonstrate for the right of Jews to pray on the Temple Mount. That would be a more genuine cause.
17. Reply to number 10 American Reform and Israel
Akiva ,   NYC   (05.12.13)
How did you read my mind? Reform began as an attempt to be more acceptable to German Christians, and later evolved to imitate American Protestants. Israelis have no need to copy various streams of Christianity. In Germany and in America Reform has led to rampant assimilation and intermarriage among the 'twice a year' Jews. The Israeli Reform Movement, unsuccessful with honest secular Israelis, has said that Israel is too important to be left to Israelis and must be controled by American Jewry such as WoW who, wearing tallis and tefillin, represent religious freedom. As if American Reform Jewish women wear tallis and tefillin!
