1. Good!
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.01.13)
Perhaps Arabs will now think twice about torching their cars for the insurance proceeds.
2. Whether they want to live in peace or not is immaterial
William ,   Israel   (05.01.13)
If they are citizens of Israel and/or within the areas of Israeli governance, including settlements, Fire Service as well as Police Service are State obligations regardless of the beneficiaries of such services. If the State can choose whom to give services to then don't be surprised when such populations can decide whether or not to pay their taxes which directly support the same services they cannot receive.
3. 1 - You're no different than terrorist supporters
Charles   (05.01.13)
Sure you may not commit the crimes (giving you benefit of the doubt) but i'll bet you can ululate with the best of them.
4. The Stupid Truth
Ethan Schwartz ,   Eilat   (05.01.13)
Anyone who benefits from fire or rescue service in this country is billed. They do what they have to deal with the problem then they go looking for someone to bill.
5. THE PERPETRATORS AND NOT THE VICTIMS MUST BE BILLED
stude ham   (05.01.13)
this billing is totally out of step with moral codes of any kind.
6. #5 You're right but then who'll pay the police
On the Balcony ,   Akko/NY/Kyiv   (05.02.13)
to find the perpetrators? :)
7. #3 She IS a terrorist supporter. [end]

8. Ohhhh he got a bill?
Student   (05.02.13)
And how bout the bill we get everyday in government expenses when terrorists murder jews and get treatment in israeli hospitals and get a degree in prison and 5 star hotel benefits? I think the bill i pay is much bigger. The activist should pay the bill if he think the "victim" should not pay. And i think we should give the death sentence to terrorists so we wont pay anymore more bills.
9. #1 you idiot.
max ,   indianapolis   (05.02.13)
The majority of the cars were not insured so why would you think its owners would torch them to commit insurance fraud? Did you even read the article?
10. These comments make me sick!
Aaron ,   Herzliya, Israel   (05.02.13)
The fire department is paid with my hard-earned tax money. I don't want victims of crime or accidents to be further billed just like I don't want seriously ill people to be billed by the ambulance driver. It makes me ashamed as a Jew to see the overwhelming amount of racist and hateful comments here. My cousin was killed in a terrorist attack, but that is no excuse to be racist.
11. Help me understand...
Amichai ,   Huntsville, US   (05.02.13)
I won't speak out-of-hand because I don' t know all the tax situations in Israel, so I'm going to ask you guys to help educate me. IF the tax structure is like the US, then this is inexcusable. The taxes pay for the services of the fire dept and everyone in entitled to the services. I thought that Israel had different tax codes for different citizens. Like Arabs were exempt from some taxes taht Jews had to pay. If that's the case with this situation, then I'd think the victim would have to pay for the services as needed. Can anyone explain this more thoroughly?

Bertram ,   London, UK   (05.02.13)
Oh dear, Sarah B. Following #9, you are clearly getting carried away with your lunacy. You need to take hold of yourself before they actually come to take you away.

solomon ,   bklyn   (05.02.13)
Very sorry to hear about your brother. But your comment provides some source of hope.
14. to #2 They do not pay Israeli taxes
yoni ,   jewish homeland   (05.02.13)
The arabs in the WB do not pay taxes to Israel. Their tax money goes to the PA. They are not citizens and they are not contributors to the state of Israel in any which way.
15. I was in an auto accident in 2005.
jason white ,   afula,israel   (05.02.13)
One auto slid on the hill going to to Afula, then my auto slid in the same spot. I got out of my auto and another one hit my auto in the rear after also skidding in that same spot. I was billed by both the fire department for their "cleaning" up the area, except for the broken glass. I was billed by Magan David Adom for the ride to the hospital, that I did not need. I made sure friends and relatives do not donate a cent to MDA any more. Why do we pay taxes? We pay all sorts of taxes and we still get hit with bills for services. It makes no sense and we the sheeple of Israel exist only to be taxed and billed for everything.
16. Surely all cars must be insured ?
Roland Seener ,   London England   (05.02.13)

Amen! While Jewish Holocaust survivors barely manage to eke out a living and have to stand in back of thousands of needy Africans for desperately required social services. No justice in that.
18. price tag victim stuck with bill
Toledano Jean-Pierre ,   Israel   (05.02.13)
In the western world, but I think it's everywhere the same, interventions in case of fire, (car)accidents,… must be paid back by the victims or their family. You can make arrangements with the emergency services to pay later, to spread the payment over different periods or they can cancel it (but in the last case I have my doubts they will agree with it). I think personally that the fire service had to separate the bills over the owners of the different cars. I'm sure that Halil phoned to the fire brigade, so they put the bill automatically on his name. But, if they did it because they knew that the other cars were not insured than you can ask questions about their credibility or even their honesty. The man will be paid back by his insurance company, but some are better and quicker to help their clients than others. Regarding the interventions of the police and any bills afterwards, I don't know anything about it. Remarks: the government - police, tax services,… - has to check by road controls or via other administrative searches if the cars are insured and if not: at the side and confiscation. Not only controlling cars, but also insurance of property! What if there is a fire and there is no insurance? If the government services didn't check it of didn't intervene in such cases than they are fully responsible for damage to the third parties. Afterwards the state can and will prosecute the offenders. Or, like in some countries: the assurance companies make a financial pool to help the third parties and afterwards they prosecute the offenders through a lawsuit.
19. #9 You will not get a reply ......
Robert ,   Australia   (05.02.13)
......as she considers herself an immaculate conception and incapable of error..
20. # 10 Aaron I am sorry for your loss
Big bad Jew ,   United States   (05.02.13)
If I may, this isn't 'racist' it has more to do with 'religious geo political' fraud. The pals claim Israel to be theirs and call it palestine. You know better than I for you live there. This is a battle over land for 'religious via political' purposes. Islam will die before she allows Jews to live on the land G-d gave her. So be in, may they meet the same fate as Syria. Still, I don't believe it has to do with race so much as it does with religion, Islam wants a 'new world order' a 7th century giant leap back into ignorant darkness and no rights for humans. Shalom.
21. To: No. 9
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.02.13)
The complainer's car was, however, insured, wasn't it? The rest should be charged with arson and jailed.
22. To No. 21
Bertram ,   London, UK   (05.02.13)
Regarding your second comment, I am guessing that as a lawyer, you may have privileged information regarding the evidence of arson. Please share this with us.
23. to #21, save face
max ,   indianapolis   (05.02.13)
You could have saved face Sarah, but you decided to defend a dumb comment with another. Now tell me, why would they torch their uninsured cars again?
24. Billing for fire service?
Neal ,   Minneapolis USA   (05.15.13)
No. 18: I don't think it's the same everywhere, as you say. In four-plus decades as a news reporter in the United States, I've never heard of victims of fire being billed for a fire department's response to a legitimate call for help. (Legitimate means no false alarms, no arson by the victim.) I needed an emergency response for my wife a few years ago. The first emergency responders in my city are firefighters. They arrived in minutes and assisted my wife. Then a county (government) ambulance crew arrived. She did not need to be taken to a hospital, and I never saw a bill and never heard about any from my insurance company. I cannot attest to their being no jurisdictions in which Americans are billed for firefighter responses within the area of the fire department's coverage, but I think that for all the times I've covered fires, I'd have heard at least once about such a practice. Hag Shavuot sameach!
