1. Well done Rav Ovadia:
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (05.02.13)
You fired the man with the blood of 42 Israelis on his hands and replaced him with a convicted criminal! Just a pity that Netanyahu didn't have the guts tp fire both Yishai and Steinitz at the time of the Carmel Fire!
2. ishai 2 head EDUCATION ?? you mean XENOPHOBIA is going 2b
Big Mouth ,   On the face   (05.02.13)
Taught 2 kids ?
3. A criminal leads the party of criminals
Shmuel ,   Jerusalem   (05.02.13)
The most corrupt party in the Knesset run by a criminal. And the spiritual leader of the party of criminals says that anybody who doesn't vote for his party is a Goy. Anybody who votes for them is mentally retarded.
4. Israel
Sagi   (05.02.13)
is the only "democracy" in the Western World that permits an ex convict, a thief who stole public funds, to participate in public office. A public outcry with a view to ostracizing this man should be the number one item on the public agenda.
5. Sole Shas Chairman
Jake ,   USA   (05.02.13)
Say that 10 ten times fast..
6. Deri
michael Pielet ,   israel   (05.02.13)
For once I agree with Sagi. This decision is a disgrace to Israel and the Jewish people. The senile old Rabbi must be retired. Deri is a criminal and belongs in jail, not leading a political party.
7. The rise and fall of Shas
Nora Tel Aviv   (05.02.13)
A convicted Deri heading Shas, means the beginning of the end of Shas as a political power. What a pitiful decision.
8. The revival of the jewish state
Abbe Filkenstein ,   New York   (05.03.13)
Now it´s the real moment for me and my family to make Alliya, so that we could vote for Shas and Ariel Deri, and against the secular and atheist mafia that have ruled Israel for too long.
9. #4 - Can't get any better ,...
split ,   US   (05.02.13)
Where 93 yrs old repersenting a stone age fossil nominates a thief and the council approves without blinking ,...
10. #7, here's hoping...
Avinoam ,   USA   (05.03.13)
...your prediction comes true. Shas is the party of Hillul Hashem.
11. Not in my name...
Yossef   (05.03.13)
When I see this parti I'm ashamed to be a Sephardi. They make Rambam turning in his grave.
12. A sad day for Israeli politics
Avi ,   Givat Zeev Israel   (05.03.13)
I guess it was to be expected that arie deri would return to head shas! It was a case of necessity out eating any other reasoning or ethical questions! Shas is stagnating and Rav Obadia and his leaders need something to pull their party up! So Deri is their obvious choice and they don't care if he's a convicted criminal ! I will never vote shas for the simple reason that the party has consistently shown a complete lack of morals and ethical standards ! A religious party? Well it depends on how one defines religion! I think that this is a very sad day in Israeli politics
13. Deri chosen
Chuck ,   SF, USA   (05.03.13)
Is this anything like Khamenei choosing Ahmadinejad?
14. Why should the sane care, how the mentally afflicted run
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.03.13)
their asylum? Convicted or not: this is another planet/another world/alternative realm, not worthy the time- waste it is to try and dissect it's inner logic. They will always have their followers, because religion IS providing some relief to existentially unbalanced people and of course, they make sure to clone themselves in droves, so it'll be an uphill battle; BUT it has to be won.
15. # 14 Tom
Sagi   (05.03.13)
"inner logic" ? Religion is the nemesis of logic. The deeper the faith the more alienated becomes the logic which leads to an unbalanced mind and eventually danger and tragedy.
16. to all inmates...
Toledano Jean-Pierre ,   Israel   (05.03.13)
To all inmates and ex-inmates: join Shas and you have a big chance to become the chairman of it.

Sagi   (05.03.13)
Yes. I can envisage katsav gaining an early release for good behaviour, reentering politics just like Deri and then being an object of idol worship by primitive feeble minded people who will ardently believe that he was a victim of a miscarriage of justice and that he will be their saviour. My heart is heavy when I contemplate the state of mind of the average Israeli citizen who receives "guidance" from his mentor, the local rabbi, and kisses a piece of metal stuck on a doorpost about fifty times a day. We are supposed to be "a light unto the nations". Voodoo anyone? Totem poles perhaps ? Druids and summer solstice rituals ?
