31. #17 Yessir! First Syria, then Iran then THE WORLD...
frauss ,   Jerusalem   (05.07.13)
But wait, why would we need to do that? We control everything already!
32. Is Orly saying he must be allowed to store+send missiles to
Alan ,   SA   (05.07.13)
Hezballah?...He must not be disturbed? If he isnt allowed to, he will be destabilised?
33. Many possibilities
(05.07.13)
Yes Assad would like to ignite a conflict with Israel if it would leave his regime intact and become a flag for unifying behind him, as the very unlikely claim / misinformation by the UN representative Carlo Ponti reinforces. That outcome is unlikely now. But what is likely and should be stopped is the spread of game changing weapons to Hezbollah , Hamas , Al Qeda, Iranian Regime by slow trickle ( under the radar) . USA , Turkey, Gulf etcand all the other allies of the US should form a concerted front of opposition to descent into more factionalism and disorder. Israel can act in cooperation with this coalition but also reserves the right to act where others fail to do so. This is also about clear sending clear smoke signals to the ambitious jihadi groups and revolutionary terrorist backed groups and sponsoring governments. Everybody should look to the endgame and intervene where necessary as playing the waiting game is unlikely to alter the endgame , rather the speed at which it is reached.
34. Still dreaming of the no risk option
Shachar ,   Eilat   (05.07.13)
Not acting is often as risky as acting. Here the dangers are actually minimal while the future dangers are possibly much greater. It is actually a good time to destroy Syria's more potent weapons before they fall into the wrong hands.
35. #17 - When did the occupation of Silver Bay take place?
Michael Redbourn ,   Arad   (05.07.13)
By the 1600s there were two main groups of people living in present-day Minnesota, the Dakota and the Ojibwe, and Europeans arrived in the 1600s. By the 1800s the Indians had been for the most part, "acculturated and assimilated", and we know what that means ;-)
36. Mr. Arafat would have LOVED that article !
Chris Rettenmoser ,   Bayerisch Gmain Germ   (05.07.13)
And Kerry and his boss do so now !
37. Orly is right ,...
split ,   US   (05.07.13)
Definitely not a thoughtful move that's going to solidify Muslims ,... You can't last in the neighborhood where everybody hates you ,...
38. #37, You should add..
Beary White ,   Norway   (05.07.13)
that any islamic follower would not last for long time in any islamic neighborhood-ideology he is not born into :-) Just look at the "arabic spring" :-) many 100.000 deaths, and other wars between islamic countries in Africa, Asia. You must admit there is something quite not so healthy in islam. I guess you will have some problem to travel around in islamic countries, if they knew which ideology you are belonging to and it was printed on your back. You would be better off in Israel, living freely and not under the apartheid-pressure which most islamic countries put on non-islamic religious minorities.
39. ASSAD
danny englard ,   London   (05.07.13)
Assad is better for israel than the 'rebels' a bunch of radicals whjo have truned the golan border hot after 45 or so years of quite so yes Israel does want Assad in power!!
40. #30. I totally support freedom of speech.
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.07.13)
I am a libertarian and totally support freedom of speech and expression. I was simply questioning the appropriateness of employing a columnist who is uncomfortable with Israel fighting for her survival.
41. Orly's opinion
Get Real ,   UK   (05.07.13)
It doesn't hurt to let the Syrian military and their Iranian backers know that Israel will take action to prevent the terror entity acquiring weapons. In an effort to gain support there is always the danger of attack from Assad's regime, whether or not Israel attacked weapons shipments. So no point in Israel holding back. Assad knows the consequences for himself if he attacks Israel.
42. Michael #13, Orly receives a salary from Ynet
Jake   (05.07.13)
Chaim does not, you ninkenpoop.
43. Michael #30, It's the Left side which stfiles dissent.
Jake   (05.07.13)
That's why I haven't posted in Haaretz for years. Almost all my posts were being blocked by the censors, while the most visious anti-Israel blood-libelers were given a carte blanche. Moreover, I found that the editors were manipulating the "likes " and "dislikes" so that all pro-Israel posters were receiving only dislikes and 0 likes, while the anti-Israel posters received only likes and 0 dislikes. And I have said nothing yet about the content of the Haaretz articles and editorials themselves. On Jpost, there is a format that enables ANYONE to post, without even a censor to block them.
44. 38 ,...
split ,   US   (05.07.13)
You're all over the map and mute on subject I raised ,...
45. Israel "Playing" Into Assad's Hands
Adam S. ,   Cedarhurst, NY   (05.08.13)
Dear Ms. Azoulay, What was Israel supposed to do. Allow Missles, etc. to be transported to Hizbullah! There will always be people like you where who will claim that Israel is always doing something, foolish, or shortsighted. What the leadership decided and what the IAF did was very brave! There are no good options when dealing with Arab regimes so Israel should focus first and foremost on defending itself, ("Oy Vey, what will the Americans and Europeans think with Israel's "over reaction"). By the way, I doubt the rebels are closing ranks with Assad. Do you still feel that it was a mistake for Israel not making painfull sacrifices and returning the Golan (give up those delicious wineries) for peace.
46. To: No. 37
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.08.13)
Do you think that the differences among Shia, Sunni, Wahhabist, Salafi, Alawite, Baathist and the jihadist groups will magically disappear because Israel set a red line to which it has every intention of adhering? You really are ignorant.
47. #37--Israel will last, muslims will be
Don Rosenberg ,   Palatine USA   (05.08.13)
destroyed. They are a political cult that is like the nazi's and commumists. Hopefully the civilized west will unite to destroy these vermin and fascist animals.
48. From the vast majority of TB's it seems Orly is paranoid
Nachman   (05.09.13)
Yes orly is suffering some form of paranoya and a shrink would be advisable, Israel has to defend itself from missiles that might hit Tel Aviv
