1. Anyone willing to put this in a religious context?
Cameron ,   USA   (05.07.13)
2. Locusts
Max Goldberg ,   Vancouver, Canada   (05.07.13)
The large migratory birds eat locusts. If they sprayed in March then the birds were either poisoned or flew over. So that's what happens if people mess with the balance of nature.
3. Sprayed poison all over and it didn't even help
Noa   (05.07.13)
I am sure it did a lot of damage- no one will ever know... Is any of the ministers and their well paid advisers seriously working on a solution to this problem? Or do they just spray something toxic and keep their fingers crossed?

stab Shayetet in the back by apologizing for killing Turkish terrorists prohibit Jews from visiting Temple Mount freeze Jewish and encourage Arab building in Judea and Samaria, just to make nobody Abbas happy release terrorist murderers because of some loophole in the law or because they don't eat breakfast. you get locusts, drought and rockets on your cities.
5. It's time to spend some money and bring in the experts !
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (05.07.13)
6. #1: Religious Context
Yishai Kohen ,   YeShA, Israel   (05.07.13)
These are kosher animals. They do not require any specific kind of ritual slaughter, and they, like fish, are not considered meat and can therefore be eaten with milk, cheese, etc. Here is an opportunity- a blessing, to harvest them for food and teach the world about sustainability at the same time.
7. #2 birds cant eat them all!
Israeli grandma   (05.07.13)
We are seeing here millions of locusts (not crickets and grasshoppers Editors) No number of birds however hungry can do more that just fill their stomachs.
8. I hope yjey eat the Bedoins....
Sabra ,   Israel   (05.07.13)
Because the Israeli government sure isn't doing anything.
9. Evangelist John Paul Jackson said on the Marcus and Joni
Rivkah   (05.07.13)
Lamb Show yesterday that the reason insects such as locusts grow in such vast numbers at times is because the jetstream changes position and migratory birds change their migration so the insects that would be eaten by birds are not and so they multiply exceedingly. But locusts are edible food for those who want to harvest them.
10. Yishai...not all are kosher BUT
rachel ,   home now   (05.07.13)
you can export the rest to people who do eat them. problem is that they need to go before they eat our crops! who can capture all those insects.
11. 1 Cameron, USA: As happened 3600 years ago in the time
Rivkah   (05.07.13)
of Moses leading the Hebrews out of Egypt, a planetary body called Planet-X or Nibiru or Orchus to NASA has a tail that is intersecting with the electromagnetic field of the Earth in March, September 2013 and March 2014 which heralds a Pole shift and many Earth changes such as volcanos, earthquakes, tsunamis, tornados, hurricanes, etc. This happened in the time of the Exodus and you can find the plagues of Egypt written about it in Exodus in Scriptures and also in the Kolbrin Bible which is a detailed account of events preceding a Pole shift as happened in Egypt. The Sun will rise in the West after the Pole shift like it did before the last one when Moses led the Hebrews out of Egypt. Pharoahs are buried facing the rising Sun and after Moses and the exodus, Pharoahs were buried facing East. Before that they were buried facing West. You can read about some of this in books such as "Coming Earth Changes" by Williiam Hutton or "Crossing the Cusp: Surviving the Edgar Cayce Pole Shift" by Marshall Masters. It is going to be quite a ride. Relocate to an area above 200feet above current sea level since the oceans will rise about that much as Antarctica melts. There is expected to be an instant freeze over Asia and Russia like happened in the days the wooly mammoths were flash frozen, so don't move there.
12. have any better ideas?
tiki ,   belgium   (05.07.13)
"We learn as we go" not only in Israel but all over the world. Sometimes things/disasters happen without having the right answer on the spot, or ever. Giving critic, without proposing ideas is easy.
13. #1 Kosher locust
Debbie ,   Amsterdam, The Nethe   (05.07.13)
In Perek Shira, the kosher locust says: I raise my eyes upon the mountains, from whence will come my help? It is a symboll of faith. Our help is from the Maker of Heaven & Earth. Trust in Hashem!
14. DDT would probably do the job....
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (05.07.13)
but it was banned here. Some said it was bad for the enviroment but I suspect it was just too effective and cheap. Large corporations probably wanted to market their own pesticides which were not really needed as long as DDT was available.
15. Praying mantis catches and eats locusts
Ypip ,   Canada   (05.07.13)
along with their eggs. They're not crop eaters, and enjoyable to have around the garden as well as quite interesting to look at.
16. Trap 'em & Eat 'em
zelig ,   memphis u.s.a.   (05.07.13)
I believe that some sephardim eat locusts.why not trap and eat the locusts ? And if the Sephardim can't eat them, then ship the locusts off to North Korea where the starving people's republic can get some sustainance ;)
17. Recipes? Marketing ideas?
bobl ,   orlando us   (05.07.13)
As a vegetarian I wouldn't want grasshoopers in my salad or spread on a bagel but they might appeal to true omnivores worldwide. Are they catchable? The 'Third World' might be a market., Alternatively they might appeal to the 'ultra chic' folk somewhere. The French eat frogs legs and snails maybe a side dish of grasshoppers? Bon appetit!
18. REPENT OF YOUR SINS..O ISRAEL
Esther ,   Selkirk Canada   (05.07.13)
THIS IS ALLOWED BY GOD.. TO HUMBLE ISRAEL & DRAW ISRAEL TO THEIR KNEES IN REPENTANCE OR...WORSE PLAGUES COMING IT IS WRITTEN

Esther ,   Selkirk Canada   (05.07.13)
21. Now that is an interesting angle, #17
Cameron ,   USA   (05.07.13)
Where do edible bugs stand in the world of vegetarians? Now you apparently have no interest in munching on grasshoppers, but is that a general vegetarian position, or more of a purist stance?
22. Locusts
Get Real ,   UK   (05.07.13)
Surprised Syria has not claimed any credit for this,as they would have so charged Israel if Syria were swamped with locusts.
23. Esther # 18
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (05.08.13)
Yes, God has written it but he didn't have his Caps Lock on when he wrote it.
