If Israel wants teachers to stay and practice their vocation in the country, religion cannot be the continuing threat to lifestyle and personal freedom. The brain drain from Israel will only get worse.

Ten months of work per year, five hours daily, 4 days a week maximum, great pension and early retirement possibilities. Calling in sick often. Too many administrators, and too many people in the system who are jobniks, who manage with protektsyot and other tichmunim. Big eyes in everybody, constantly checking the "magia li."

In the United States, there is also a shortage of math teachers. Many times pay for teachers lags behind that of industry. How does pay for teachers compare with comparable jobs in industry? Any incentives to become math teachers? Any incentives to increase professional development?
