1. Who is in charge politically in Turkey?
Mira ,   Vienna   (05.12.13)
The IHH terrorists or the AKP government, which in the end are not so far from each other considering the friendship of Erdogan and Hamas!
2. #1 IHH AKP
(05.12.13)
There is no real difference between AKP and IHH: Erdogan helped organize the Mavi Marmara incident.. The problem is Syria. Erdogan thought he was some sort of sultan, massacring Kurds, attacking the Jews and sending Sunni jihad terrorists into Syria. Now, after Kerry's failure in Moscow, Erdogan might be worried that Assad and Iran will win. With all his bluster, Erdogan knows that if that happens he needs Israeli protection.
3. Too Complicated
Sam Sweiry ,   Eastbourne - UK   (05.12.13)
Why I need to scratch my head - why I need to think about Turkey - We have enough with Syria
4. Sure, the VICTIMS PAY the Terrorists!
Riva ,   Israel   (05.12.13)
Sets up a great example for other terrorists.
5. Mavi Marmara
Obsessive ,   Turkey   (05.12.13)
Mavi means Blue in Turkish. (Abee in Farsi) Sea of Marmara. Marmaros means "Marble" in Greek. Sea of Marble. Happy Sunday! :-)
6. Pay Baby, Pay
Keren IL-BR   (05.12.13)
Why do we have to go to this humiliation again? Did Turkey paid Iraq when tens of Iraq Kurds were slaughtered by Turkey when provoking on the border? Israeli soldiers were just defending our borders and their life were at eminent risk. Why do we say "build, baby, build" in one day and tomorrow we see a total freeze in the settlements? Why do we allow Jews to pray at Al-Aksa in one day and the other we implore the pardon of Jordan? Is there something wrong with our leadership or what?
7. #6 Indeed there is something wrong
Raphael ,   Paris France   (05.12.13)
Sur Keren, there is something wrong with the Israeli leaders. Netanyahu is so weak ! Israeli leaders consider too much what other countries leaders think about Israel. If they had guts, they would just tell the truth, but they don't have the guts. Too many cowards.
8. Erdogan should tell them to shut up
Cipora Julianna Kohn ,   Z   (05.12.13)
private individuals do not have the right to abrogate a state's sovereignty. once turkey and israel make an agreement, such agreement puts an end to all other claims.
9. #6 Dear Keren
Obsessive ,   Turkey   (05.12.13)
Kurdish terrorists are 5000. Million Kurd live in Western Turkish cities with their Turkish couples. Northern Iraq is natural extention of Turkey. 300.000 Kurd escaped to Turkey from Saddam. Hundreds of thousands of Kurds in Turkish Army. Kurdish Hizbullah (and their legal!!! political party HÜDA PAR) is threatening concert of Turkish rock group "Duman". You can watch. http://www.beyazgazete.com/video/anahaber/tv8-74/2013/05/10/duman-a-hizbullah-tepkisi-408775.html
10. #8: Not quite right!
Dee Bee ,   Israel   (05.12.13)
Israel is a democracy and whatever the Government decides on any matter, the Knesset has to approve it. If the decision contravenes the Basic Law, Israel's constitution, the High Court of Justice can overrule a Government decision just as the US Supreme Court can and has done. The Final approval comes in the form of an election where the people decide and to whom the Government is ultimately responsible. You seem to come from "Z". May we ask where or what is "Z" as you seem to be an expert of Israeli matters?
11. Compensation / removal Gaza blockade - relevance????
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (05.12.13)
12. Sue Baby Sue
Ben David Shlomo   (05.12.13)
Don't drop the lawsuits. If the IDF soldiers are innocent, why are they afraid of going to court? If Israelis demand that the lawsuits be dropped, then we demand that the illegal blockade against Gaza be dropped. Remember that many on board the Mavi Mamara were international citizens-politicians, journalists, peaceful activists and sympathizers who are entitled to a lot of financial compensation for injuries sustained and false imprisonment.
13. That's what follows when you've said "A": now you're bound
tom ,   tel aviv   (05.12.13)
to say "B" and "C". First the apology of Nothingnyahu then....be my guest and take a pick. Just like giving into one terrorist demand. We know how that turned out.
14. # 12 What are you talking about?
Mira ,   Vienna   (05.12.13)
First thing before talking is to switch on the brain! Why should IDF soldiers go to a Banana Court? Because Erdogan knows very well that no IC would make him win? If he would ahve hopem he would have tried it. There is enough footage on the incident which actually proves the innocence of IDF! Besides the blockade is acknowledged internationally as legal. And stop that extremely stupid broken record talking bout "peace activists" and their like. You make me vomit!
15. Pay compensation to wounded IDF soldiers
Lee Kaplan ,   Berkeley, USA   (05.12.13)
The ISM and Turks knew the Marmara was illegal by international law. They knew IDF had right to interdict. This stupid policy will not help. Our soldiers are being treated like political pawns.
16. Gaza Blockade
Emes Said ,   Md, USA   (05.12.13)
Israel allows tons of goods into Gaza. Even during recent rocket attacks gods were allowed in. It is not really a blockade, just an embargo on certain goods that can be used to build rockets and conceal them. Hamas bans bibles, Jews, and fellow Fayah PA from entry into Gaza.
17. Israel pays and pays and pays for Bibi's cowardice.
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.12.13)
There is no limit to Bibi's cowardice. He simply can't stand up to anyone. He cowers before Obama, the U.N., Turkey, the E.U. Even JStreet. Israel pays and pays and pays and pays some more for Bibi's cowardice. The deal with Turkey has the victim pay the criminals.
18. There naive and then there's plain stupidity .
Harvey ,   London   (05.12.13)
While I realise Obama was doing some serious pushing behind the scenes during his visit to Israel , it seems absurd that diplomats failed to hammer out the terms of the apology / compensation package . So now we have the absurdity of Turkey gaining an apology while still going ahead with a class action of sorts . Best is to withdraw the offer of compensation , withdraw the apology and let it hang around in court for the next ten years . Win and there's no compensation and no apology . Now we have the worst of all worlds , admitting liability by apology and still having to face a law suit . I realise there's the question of real politik going on behind the scenes but this failure to tie up the loose ends of the deal is bizarre .
19. Hypocrites
john   (05.12.13)
Go harass Syria and every other country in the Middle East (including Turkey) that engage in grave violations of human rights.
20. # 12...Keep their feet to the fire..and stand your ground...
Edithall ,   USA   (05.12.13)
Don't ever let the IDF murdering criminals off the hook..Isn't that what Nuremberg was all about...accountability? Sue, baby sue! TATA
21. # 17...Israel never pays, it''s the US who always
Edithann ,   USA   (05.12.13)
pays...Israel whines about paying, but they never do..It's alawys the American taxpayer... Finally it's the IDF on the carpet... TATA..
22. ACES Strategy
ginger ,   tahoe, us   (05.12.13)
Apology, Compensation, End Blockade, and Suits All should progress simultaneously
23. #12 ben, #20 haha - yes, sue !
solomon ,   bklyn   (05.12.13)
Israel should file a countersuit against those trying to break a legal blockade, and those who supported them, such as the Turkish government. Remember that many on board made believe they were peaceful activists, and proved who they were by their actions of joining the attempted breaking of a legal blockade, and attempting to stop the boarding of their ship (which, by law, is preferred to be done in international waters). Note that those hurt were the ones attacking the soldiers, not those who remained below. Truth hurts, doesn’t it ben and haha? Facts win out again.
24. U.S. aid amounts to tiny percentage of Israel's G.N.P.
Chaim ,   Israel   (05.12.13)
Once again, you post rubbish, Edithann. American aid to Israel amounts to a tiny percentage of Israel's G.N.P. Israel could easily do without it and should do so. If you want to see a bogus economy, look at the "economy" of Fictional Palestine. It's "economy" is nothing more than shifting around welfare payments from Western suckers.
25. Deal
Syd Chaden ,   Palermo Calif USA   (05.12.13)
And, does Israel have to agree that the genocide of the Armenians never occurred, too?
26. Only in Israel
Barak   (05.12.13)
Only in Israel do we win a defensive engagement only to pay the attackers. So-called Palestinians target and murder our women and children, and we give them Gaza, we treat them in our hospitals, and they think we owe them more. The Turks attempt to violate a lawful naval blockade on a terrorist organization and attack our soldiers, and now it' s us that owe them and apology? We should send 'aid' to the PPK and see if Turkey simply lets us pass.
27. Turkey's obligations
Get Real ,   UK   (05.12.13)
How about Turkey apologising for allowing the so called aid flotilla from leaving, paying compensation to the attacked Israeli soldiers and acknowledging the legality of the naval blockade and the right of Israel to monitor that weapons are not being sent to Gaza. Or is Turkey supporting the rights of terrorists to attack Israel and thus lead to a response of further Cast Lead and POD operations?
28. Completely lost faith in Bibi
Eliana Fadida ,   Geva Carmel, Israel   (05.12.13)
Now I know why Yair Lapid is raising taxes left and right and making budget cuts in education and child benefits. Its to pay "millions of shekels" to the terrorists families. What kind of country do we live in that the government is bleeding its citizens of money so that it can be sent to jew hating terrorists and their families. It seems like Bibi and his new government are more concerned with paying child benefits to the terrorists in Turkey then to the jews in Israel. Maybe the millions should come from Bibi's bank account.
29. #14 VIDEO FOOTAGE
Ben David Shlomo   (05.13.13)
You conveniently forget that the IDF and Israeli police confiscated all video evidence, memory sticks and cards which was filmed by the passengers, so that the truth can't be shown. You are referring to the Israeliwood sanitized version. We KNOW what really happened, and that is why those involved in the IDF and Israeli government must be dragged kicking and screaming to an International Court. I would gladly pay to have a seat in that court!
30. #27 is spot on!
Dave ,   Melbourne Australia   (05.13.13)
#27 you are so right. The only country responsible for the mavi marmara disaster is Turkey. Until they acknowledge their crime, there will be no proper closure. Maybe the individual soldiers who were subjected to attack should collectively commence their own legal suit against the government of Turkey and anyone else who aided and abetted in this crime.
