31. #8 explain
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (05.13.13)
You are saying that if the PM takes off at midnight after a day handling the budget, and lands in London at 6 AM to meet Cameron to discuss Syrian nerve gas attacks, he does not need a bed? Do you actually read what you write?
32. Do unto others as you would want them to do to you.
Barbara ,   Haifa Israel   (05.13.13)
If the children of Israel need to cut expenses, then so do the parents. In this case, the leaders. That is my belief - that if the peasants need to suffer, then so should the king and queen suffer.
33. #28 israeli Israeli distortion of facts
Haim ,   Haim   (05.13.13)
You might want to try reading the article before you attack our President: "Even a five-hour flight in first class seems too much for them. Our president, who will celebrate his 90th birthday next month, spent 11 hours flying to South Korea without any special demands." No doubt you and your ilk fly cattle class well thank goodness for the rest of us.
34. @13 so proud r u that twice u sign u r from LA!
(05.13.13)
Now that's real pride. I suppose you are just making sure that you let us know that you are one of the hairs in that armpit! LMAO
35. LOL @ 3

36. Pay peanuts...
Adam Neira ,   Paris, France   (05.13.13)
Will the real PM please rest up ? Old-school prime minister Menachem Begin didn’t need no stinkin’ double bed, unlike Netanyahu. ((The Times of Israel) Sure a five hour flight to London from Tel Aviv is not a taxing endeavour, but a leader of the State of Israel needs certain travel options. Bibi's not a king, as the country is not a constitutional monarchy, but he is allowed certain fringe benefits and liberties. Those tasked with the heavy spiritual lifting in a nation/kingdom need to be rewarded. The fact that some people like the above photo of Menachem Begin (See TOL story) sleeping in that position on the way to an official state visit in the late 1970's or early 1980's says more about Israel's socialist heritage than about pure jealousy towards the current Prime Minister. Many citizens still hold dear to the 1948 era "Tall Poppy Syndrome". i.e. You must cut everyone down to the same size. The problem with this ethos is that excellence can be prevented from arising. How would the "Pay peanuts get monkeys" idea have gone down in 960 bce ?
37. Israel rights to gov't aircraft
Carol O'Connor ,   USA   (05.13.13)
USA has Air Force 1, Israel by all means as the only democracy in the middle east, should have likewise for there working Prime Minister. 24/7. Don't degrade your country or your leaders. Take a look at air force one!
38. For this and other PERKS is why Eshel, Bibi AND Sarah.......
Disgusting ,   for Israel   (05.13.13)
break every rule of honesty and decency to form perpetual coalitions. Do they care what ultimately or presently happens in Israel? Of course not. Just keep the crowns and the royal benefits (and power) coming.
39. @24 Menachem Begin and his wife Aliza did!

40. to #8
MR   (05.13.13)
Except that the flight was in the middle of the night after he worked the whole day and had to be sharp the next day, to represent you.
41. Must Be Nice To Be An Oligarch.
World Citizen ,   the world   (05.13.13)
But I guess it's permissible as he works hard for the oligarchy...ooops I mean all citizens of the country.
42. He can be king if he feeds his people
Ted   (05.13.13)
All the comments that say Bibi deserves it has a point - BUT NOT during this time of economic pressure in the country, where most people except the rich will suffer a lot; and NOT after Bibi created such a huge deficit for his people to bear!
43. 41
(05.13.13)
so, i guess one can call obama and his fancy wife oligarchs as well? and obama has his own plane!!!!! and his own motor coach that is 1 million dollars...and also his own limo that is called the beast and costs upwards of a million dollar...for one car. i think he is entitled to be called an oligarch much more than netanyahu, don;t you think? and the man, doesn't even work hard. mainly golfs and vacations in hawaii.
44. El Al is cheaper than a dedicated PM aircraft
Neal ,   Minneapolis USA   (05.14.13)
Whether the PM should or should not have an airborne bedroom is for Israelis to decide. (The price does seem rather high; perhaps El Al also charged for the revenue missed by removing paying customers' seats?) But an "Israel One" dedicated solely for flying the PM -- and maybe the president -- is far more expensive than creating a sleeping area on an El Al aircraft that carries paying passengers along with the PM. A dedicated airplane must be maintained to be airworthy even when it is parked for weeks at a time between the PM's trips -- and that's atop the purchase price. For those who don't know: The U.S. Air Force maintains TWO "Air Force One" Boeing 747s so one always is available for backup or while the other is in maintenance. Plus, a U.S. presidential visit requires airlift of a host of vehicles to drive and protect the president. Israeli prime ministers' travel, by comparison, is a bargain, even cheap -- with or without a private sleeping area that he should or should not have.
45. Is this news serious?
Tim ,   Brighton   (05.14.13)
I cant see anything wrong in providing sleeping accomadation on board the aircraft given the hectic schedules he has to contend with As for framing the story in terms of sarcasms....what a yawn..zzzzzzz
46. From what I read, Marie Antoinette was beautiful.
Michael ,   California, USA   (05.14.13)

Suzy   (05.15.13)
How can you compare a huge continent like the United States to a small country like Israel
48. More to the point
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (05.15.13)
Needing a reest in a bed maybe debatable, but having the publi foot the bill for having is wife along is the real problem. In no other country doesthe public foot the bill for a accompaning spouce on all trips made in the name the public. Mrs. BB sould py her own wy if she insists on going along on all trps.
49. #48 hit the nail on the head
R ,   Israel   (05.15.13)
That's the whole in a nutshell.
50. Two responses
Robert Haymond ,   Teko'a, Israel   (05.16.13)
1) Every week or so Sara Netanyahu is profiled in a negative way, always with the recurrent theme that she is far too involved in the running of the nation. I tend, in general, to dispell gossipy type rumours but the focii on Sara have become so numerous, dominant and varied that I am prone to believe that she conducts herself improperly and that Bibi either can't, or won't, force her to mind her own business. It appears that she's had a hand in this fiasco. I wish Nephtali Bennett could publicly speak of his own (former) problems with Sara. 2) Bibi's continued insensitive actions indicate, in fact, strongly suggest, that he holds contempt for the people he was elected to represent (the Israeli citizenry).
51. Comming of age
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (05.16.13)
Israel is no longer just a baby becoming a nation. Our political leaders should be rested and at their best when meeting foreign officials. Perhaps it's about time that the government invests in a corporate jet with seats for the PM's entourage and sufficient range to reach Europe and perhaps the Unite States with refueling. What would be the cost of such a jet compared to the current cost of travel expenses for people on official business.
