31. Knowing how Salim's mind works
HaifaGuy   (05.20.13)
if he survives the "friendly fire" from his bedfellows, he will be seen at the Ministry of Interior the next morning collecting Terror Victims Program benefits, frothing at the mouth and all. Salim's cake will be eaten and kept.
32. The post at No. 23 is not mine.
Sarah B ,   U.S.A. / Israel   (05.20.13)
33. why can these idiots just shut up!
Mira ,   Vienna   (05.20.13)
what a nice invitation for Assad to attack. I can't believe it!
34. #8 You're no genius
Cynthia ,   USA   (05.20.13)
After killing 80,000 Syrians, Assad has many enemies so he obviously won't be safe anywhere. And if he becomes a threat to Israel, you should expect Israel to defend her people using all means. You have the luxury of sitting on your tuffet in the UK babbling nonsense, the Israelis don't.
35.  Israel may not have answer to Syrian missiles
suter ,   beer sheva   (05.20.13)
hello i do belive that israel have an good answear to evenuelly falling s300 russian made rockets from syria in to israel. but meantime assad have lost alot of hes army even he is not sure if he tomoro is alive , and israel all what the want is :that such weapons not falling in bad guys hand . i belive if israel would, before that rocket lunschers was installed in syria , the where knocked out from the israel airforce no question about that folks. so if assad would lunsh on of them ,he knows very well that would be the end . he is maybe dump and crazy, but he knows that in an rocket attak against israel he want find on stone of the other again in hes country so let the syrians figth each other , iran soon will have a new president and then? assad is alone , maybe some hizb, figthers are arround him but soon the too will see beter the ass in lebanon in security then risking a blled in the head what u think dear reader??
36. Prepare Multilayered Defense
Zechariah   (05.20.13)
Israel ought prepare in Tel aviv and other cities a multilayered Defense with shelters redeployment plans to less vulnerable areas and a Solid counterattack that will devastate enemy military and economic power.
37. Agree with #18, no missiles will fall
Adam Helberg ,   USA   (05.20.13)
Assad is a pragmatist and wants to survive. He knows if he hits Tel Aviv it would be his end, so all the missile talk is just political posturing. I think he's hoping for an Alawite enclave that will include Damascus. If he does "attack" Israel it will be to make a token gesture.
38. didn't think that for a moment, Sarah.
HaifaGuy   (05.20.13)
39. time to make exposing military capabilities criminal offence
zionist forever   (05.20.13)
People like him are the worst kind, the love to let everybody know the little military secrets that nobody else does and as a result they put national security at risk. We need new legislation which applies to retired military people as well as serving ones which will make discussing any military issue without permission from the top a criminal offence. Israeli generals have a very bad habit of telling the media all about military issues some of which is still relevant This guy broke all the rules by announcing we might not be able to protect Tel Aviv if Assad fires missiles. Although its Arrow not Iron Dome designed to deal with Assads missiles what was the point of any of this, even if it doesn't damage national security it will scare the public.
40. to #13: i believe you are wrong
tom ,   toronto, canada   (05.20.13)
nuking anybody is a lose-lose scenario. nuclear weapons are remarkably inefficient against hardened military targets (why make craters 100 meters across to destroy a single bunker?), and most effective against large civilian targets, like cities. but even used against cities, they can create large amounts of fallout, which will contaminate your own territory and food supply. from a different perspective, nuclear annihilation is also not a deterrent for religious fanatics who actively seek death (aka "martyrdom"), and who believe that the end of the world is a good thing, as the prerequisite for the return of the mahdi, for example. as a doomsday threat, nuclear retaliation might be credible, but only after israel has been destroyed - so if the purpose is to prevent that destruction, it is of little value. "regime change" is a more effective strategy.
41. I'm with Moses at No. 3
keren ,   tzafon israel   (05.20.13)
Why does ynet dredge up comments from has beens and nobodies who, if they really had Israel's interests at heart would keep their fat gobs shut and not pontificate and speculate just to see themselves in print? Who really cares what the ex-whatchamacallit of whatever thinks? Just pray that the current guy knows what he is doing and that he keeps his mouth shut while he does it.
42. sad but true
tom ,   toronto, canada   (05.20.13)
the residents of tel aviv might not like to hear this, but they are now in the line of fire. when it was "just" sdreot, they could afford to speculate on peace deals with hamas, but now their "precious behinds" are in danger of getting roasted, too. i really hope the "peaceniks" of tel aviv are busy cleaning and repairing their shelters. the sad truth is that attacking the enemy's civilian population is an act of desperation that doesn't win wars. in fact, it can be argued that the luftwaffe's bombing of london, instead of the raf's airfields, cost them the battle of britain. if assad shoots at tel aviv, while the idf shoots at assad's rocket launchers, the upcoming battle will be short, sharp, and in israel's favour.
43. Issue very pressing and very serious, no talkbacker...
Flavio ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (05.20.13)
...seems to be an expert in non conventional weapons strategy and/or missile engineering, so please stop with all the b.s. about flattening this or that, nuking here or there, this or that place ceasing to exist and especially telling the Israeli military top echelon what to do. More than ridiculous, is is grotesque. All this energy is wasted in a pointless debate, should be much more productively spent in debating civil defense strategies and measures that can actually make a difference if -G-d forbid- something REALLY bad happens!
44. Tom # 40
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (05.20.13)
Of course the situation is much different in the middle east but it sure worked with Japan.
45. Assad is there because Israel allows it.
SD Charger ,   San Diego   (05.21.13)
Who knows when Assad's last day on earth will be? Missles, smishles, that would be the last thing he would EVER try to do.
46. oh please, israel will not nuke back.
Ilan ,   Ramat Gan, Israel   (05.21.13)
after a chemical attack we will be at war with Syria! after a chemical attack on tel aviv, i think we would get all the justification we need. it will be conventional warfare, at least for us. we know the battles of today is fought with video cameras, and world sympathy, not bullets and rockets! if those things hits and and causes mass civilian casualties, no one will have the right to say anything! if those chem weapons hit us, i would love to see the UN try to pass a resolution to deny us our retaliation. The IDF holds back and attacks as humanly as possible! you mistake this for weakness, and that's your problem. you may disagree wit the term humanly, but unless you are actually here, witnessing it. you can say all you want, you have nothing to base an argument on other than your own bias!!!!
47. When did Israel have "answer" to Syria?
Miron ,   USA   (05.21.13)
Except in end - of - the - world all out conflict with use of nuclear weapons Israel has little to put in the way of Syrian nation. Syrians seems to respect this fact and gave Israel some 40 years of calm. To say that it was odious to watch Yahoo break this calm is to say nothing. Someone in Israeli military / government/relisious community three horse duo has gone mad. And need to be stopped hard, or the cab will end up going down a cliff. Tzahal disawoved attacks, which means that military basically condemned this activity. Government is not so much. So, who is the mad horse? Bennet?
48. HaifaGuy 21 & 31
NNF ,   TA Israel   (05.21.13)
Salim lives in Jerusalem which is off limits to Syrian missiles. Assad might hit El Aksa Mosque and thus condeming himself.
49. Tthis Article is wrong -
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (05.21.13)
- I Quote - Official: Israel may not have answer to Syrian missiles Comment - If Syria does not se the logicand legality in Israels attemt to hinder transfere of Gamechanging Wepons to Hizbollah to the Peril of Israel, but intends to stop Israels attemt, then Syria has already made a War move against Israel. The Israel should Preemt any Syrian effort, and cripple Syria of all their Offencive capability, that is to strike first. If Assad is such a , Fool let Him Pay for his Foolishness. Arn.Sweden.
50. ... with a nuclear test
GH   (05.21.13)
51. Thank Bibi but don't panic
Dan   (05.21.13)
Why does Russia feel it can arm Syria and in effect Hizballah and Iran this way? Because Bibi's support of the settlers has alienated world opinion and no one will risk war to save 'colonist' Israel. But Iran take over Syria? Absurd: Syrians and Sunni states would never allow it.
52. erdogan
vic the whip   (05.21.13)
