1. A COUP? GREAT IDEA
MR CYNIC ,   SAFED CYNIC HOUSE   (06.19.13)
Such a marvelous idea to get rid of Syrias' President Assad only to find an ever worse / bigger bastard in his place. Which " Genius" came up with this stinking idea? ( answers on a postcard please.)
2.  A MASTERCLASS
ALBERTO EINSTEIN ,   SAFED GENIUS   (06.19.13)
This is a lesson in how to make a terrible situation a million times worse. Brought to you by the likes of messrs Obama and Cameron ,or should that be CaMORON ?
3. This is like asking who is better, Arafat or Haniya
Larry ,   Raanana   (06.19.13)
In Syria, the so-called Rebels are not western aligned. It is Afghanistan again when the US sent weapons to the Taliban to drive out Russia only to find that the Taliban were worse.
4. It could work ?
Arn. ,   Sweden.   (06.19.13)
West's plan: Coup against Assad Arn.Sweden.
5. It would be funny
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (06.19.13)
The UK is ignoring international law by forcing Jihad on the Syrian people, knowing that it will end in violent ethnic cleansins of minorities. It would be funny if Russia counters by selling Argentina Yakhont andS300F missiles to help liberate the Malvinas.
6. Wishful thinking or desperation?
Get Real ,   UK   (06.19.13)
With the US/West not supplying heavy weapons to the rebels and not imposing a no- fly zone, and with the rebels not progressing their fight and with Russia,Iran & Hezbolah supplies/personnel flowing in to assist Assad why should any of the regimes Seniors abandon Assad? And even if they did would the rebels and AL-Q accept this and just disappear?
7. this is all assuming that the syrians like this idea
zionist forever   (06.19.13)
The western powers are saying Assads henchmen will be allowed a role in rebuilding a post Assad Syria but has it never occurred to these geniuses that if the Syrians don't want Assad's henchmen then the west cannot force the government to give them a role to play. Its also very unlikely they can stop the sectarianism anyway considering the rebels are not a united bunch they are different groups fighting a common enemy and when the enemy goes so will the unite and the fight for Syria will begin and old scores to be settled. There will almost certainly be attacks against the Alawite community, they were considered worse than Jews before Hafez Assad came to power now though with Bashar Assad being one of them the people will want blood. What will the west do about Al Quaida and Hezbollah both wanting to get a foothold in Syria, just because Assad is toppled doesn't mean they will give up their attempts to infiltrate and set up cells destabilise things? If they want to have a role to play in the rebuilding of Syria at a political level or ensuring security then that is going to mean boots on the ground and spending vast somes of money to prop up the new government make sure there is no coup. I imagine these countries are also going to commit to spend billions of taxpayer money to rebuild Syria. Best to let the Syrians handle this war their way and then when its over the west takes a look at who won and then decide the best way to work with the new government because take sides now and it all goes wrong then your the enemy of the new regime.
8. 1
zionist forever   (06.19.13)
After WW1 the allies got rid of the Keiser and with no strong leadership Germany descend into chaos and the Nazis filled the gap. After WW2 the Americans left the emperor of Japan on the throne but in the role of a figurehead so the Japanese had somebody to look up to help with stability. During the end of WW2 the allies decided not to try kill Hitler out of fear somebody smarter and more brutal would come to power. After Desert Storm in 1991 they decided to leave Saddam in power because unlike many of his henchmen he was an idiot but they were all as bad as each other and the strongman carried on keeping order. After Iraq 2003 they kiled Saddam and all hell broke loose. Get rid of Assad through the use of outside intervention by supporting the rebels and rather than getting a government that the majority of Syrians can tolerate they get a government that is there because the west took sides and helped them win rather than it being a natural conclusion to the war. They cannot ensure Assads henchmen will be welcomed by the new regime and given a role to play in the rebuilding of the country its all western assumption that if they help the rebels win then they can make that happen. The western fools just never learn from history and the political leaders of the day think they have all the solutions because they are the clever ones.
9. who will replace Assad?!
CJK   (06.19.13)
if there were an acceptable figure to replace assad, the plan would have some merit. however, there is no such figure, at least not one known to the syrians.
10. There's the "other" Assads
David V. ,   Sydney   (06.22.13)
namely Rifaat al-Assad and his children in exile in Europe, because Hafez saw him as a threat. They've been on the sidelines since the war began, Rifaat made only vague noises about "transition" while "continuing the regime". I think Rifaat will be needed now, and the rebels might have to deal with him. Abdul Halim Khaddam is already on the rebels' side.
