Experiment on humans is not good. Israelis do not need such extensive data to be given. Privacy of an individual is his right.

What are the datas that authorities will hold?

Will this program be expanded to consulates and embassies for the Israelis living abroad?

In US immigrants go through a biometric procedure and have for many years. I also had this done as part of a background check when I worked for a financial institution and Im a US citizen. What is the big deal? We already have a Teudat Zehut without which you cannot pay a freaking cell phone bill, how is this any worse?
6. New ID Cards

Leave it to Shelly Yachimovich to again say something stupid and inflammatory. The new ID's are the future and those who oppose them on account of their rights being violated are mostly populists looking for their 5 minutes of misguided fame.

This thing is a farce, and we don't need to go down the road of the other nations with governmental control. Fingerprinting was only for criminals. Invation of privacy. You can forget about getting my prints, ever.

But this is a bridge too far. It's the *database* that's the problem, not the use of smart cards themselves. Disgusting. I signed the online petition and call on all Israelis to do so.

Personally I am against this biometric ID card, it will make the whole process of getting a a passport or ID card more complicated and it will be a gift to terror and organised crime. Israeli politicians and generals also have a bad habit of leaving cases carrying important of documents in the back of taxis. There is a need for a smart ID card but better to use existing tried and tested but not so fancy technology. Why not regular ID card with the basics but rather than all the biometrics have the chip & pin style credit cards which they use on some European credit cards You have a chip with the basic information and you have to enter a PIN code. Tried and tested technology, the card readers are very small now so easy for police to carry or about and there is basic information on the front like a driver licence. If you loose your card or need a new passport its easy to call up say you need new card or new passport and its in the post or you go into the Misrad Hapanim gives you over the counter. Biometrics means that you want an ID card or passport you have to first go to the biometric scanners etc its just going to be a much more complicated process as well as it being a target for terror and crime. Shelly though is blowing it out of all proportion.
