1. He would be better suited as head of the Teliban
Haim ,   TA   (07.09.13)
A bigoted rascist wrapped up in religious clothing does not represent Israel.
2. A better idea...
Secular   (07.09.13)
would be: No chief rabbi in Israel at all. No need. Believing, worshiping is a private business of an individual. Nobody should be paid for his believes, rule others, be another "professional" corrupted rabbi or senior rabbi or chief rabbi or self-appointed messiah.
3. How about Dorit Benisch for Chief Rabbi?
A.C.   (07.09.13)
She is perfect for you. She'll convert all goyim to Jews and all you secular to goyim and marry you guys off without a hitch. She'll even replace kosher bucher shops with pig meat and horse meat and lobster and every treif food you look. She'll force Egged to drive up Bnei Brak and Meah Shearim on Shabbat and whatever you want. Who can be better for Chief Rabbi?
4. Eliyahu
Mendoza ,   Tel-Aviv, Israel   (07.09.13)
This individual does have some value, but mainly as a museum exhibit. Racist, primitive, odious and altogether backward.
5. A.C. - Who do you refer to with "YOU"?
Rimona ,   Or-Yehuda   (07.09.13)
Let me remind you what the sages thought about that exclisive "you". Remember the answer to the evil son in the Hagadah: "He says `to you,' but not to him! By thus excluding himself from the community he has denied that which is fundamental..." Never exclude yourself from CLAL ISRAEL! And this brings me to the choices of Chief Rabbi - the person must be of a character that strives to include all residents and rejects none. The Chief Rabbi also serves the non-religious public - in fact, they may really need him more than the orthodox communities.
6. Thank you Stalinist clique
Ilan   (07.09.13)
Israel's Khmer Rouge has spoken
7. Public statements
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.09.13)
Cannot be made and then denied or withdrawn because a person wants a public office. The truth is that he made these statements. He is not fit to be chief anything, much less chief rabbi. That is a position that is respected by too many people for it to be filled by a racist.
8. Useless bunch
Daniel ,   NY, USA   (07.09.13)
These useless bunch of good for nothings should move to Gaza. I don't see them up in arms about Tibi or other racist Arabs calling for our destruction. They think because they are ""jews"", they can practice hypocrisy and get away with it...
9. Now that all the the leftists
Yerach ,   Jerusalem,Israel   (07.09.13)
As well as the self hating Jews are against him it makes me want him more
10. The autistics with their noble prizes as well as the posters
(07.09.13)
seem to go for 1 of these 3: Rabbi Yair Lapid, Rabbi Naftali Bennett or Rabbi Shai Piron.
11. its not racism dummies
avi ,   nyc   (07.10.13)
i understand that secular gentilized Jews in search of being "normal" have a fetish for copying anything American or euro-trash including rhetoric. since racism derives from race, arab jewish conflict is ethnic not racial. instead of aping american trailer trash performers ( that only american gentiles like) like Britney Spears come up with authentic performers and not just transvestites.
12. Robbed of his culture
Ethan Schwartz ,   Eilat   (07.10.13)
this guy is an oriental Jew educated by the Europeans to hate his own heritage.
13. May God bless Rabbi Eliyahu
pinchas ,   boston & tsfat   (07.10.13)
and may He curse the leftist secular Israeli Tel Aviv TRASH.
14. Israeli intellectuals
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.10.13)
HaBayet HaYehudi endorses Rabbi Stav, while Israeli intellectuals condemn HaBayit HaYehudi for supporting Rabbi Eliyahu, whom they have never endorsed. What does that suggest about the Israeli intellectuals who signed this statement? Those who have followed closely Rabbi Eliyahu's statements knows they were taken out of context and often misquoted by the loony Left media as part of the campaign against Judaism.
15. Ashkenazim versus Sephardim
Joseph ,   London UK   (07.10.13)
Although many names have been Hebraicised making it harder to tell, I have noted over the years that Jews from Arab countries are more hostile to Arabs than Israeli Jews fron Central and Eastern Europe. Sefas is one of the four ancient Jewish holy cities, and when a college opened in Sefas there was an influx of Arab students, changing the historic character of Sefas. Rabbi Eliyahu asked Jews in the historic old city not to rent to Arabs and to preserve its unique character. This was no more a case of racism than the Jewish Quarter in Old Jerusalem wanting to preserve its unique character.
16. A Rabbi is NOT a state symbol
Larry ,   Or Yehuda   (07.10.13)
The chief rabbi post should be dissolved
17. Rav Eliyahu
Michelle ,   Jerusalem   (07.11.13)
Rav Eliyahu is a kind, sweet man and would make a fantastic Chief Rabbi. I think some of these comments, were taken out of context (What a surprise for the press). I wish him luck and hope he will get elected. All these people have to do is meet him and they will see that he is a honest and humble man.
18. Little bit of cognitive dissonance
Az   (07.11.13)
Rabbi that advocates racism, xenophobia, and downright unhospitable policy. Also, he doesn't seem to understand what the word "Jew" means. I think he means "Israel for pasty white skinned Europeans with big noses."
19. Reply to 18 white skinned Europeans
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (07.12.13)
The Eliyahu family came to Israel from Iraq or Bavel, an Arab Muslim country, not a country of pasty white skinned Europeans. Most Israeli Sephardim come from Arab countries, and have had bad experiences of how Arabs treat Jews who have lived in the Middle East beginning in 586 BCE, about a thousand years before Arabs spread Islam across the region.
20. 19 "came from Iraq or Babel"
Az   (07.13.13)
Well then his attitude should not be in the least surprising.
