1. And a rock differentiates between who it hits?
Joe ,   Israel   (07.11.13)
If the rocks he was throwing hit someone in the head and killed them, then everyone would be blaming the IDF for not acting against rock throwers. How about we blame the father for letting his son run about throwing stones and the son himself for throwing stones instead of the IDF for stopping stone throwing. Also, he wasn't arrested, only detained and then transferred. So it was fully legal.
2. Is the first time in life that I enjoy to see
Me ,   ISRAEL   (07.11.13)
Child crying, They teach them to trugh stones the soldiers teach them they can't.
3. 5-year-old
kapriza ,   tsafon   (07.11.13)
What I see is the child being calmly and quietly detained, accompanied by calming adults who seem to know him. Of course it's scary to be apprehended, and hopefully this will be a lesson to the child that there are consequences to his behavior (attacking cars or any other violent, criminal behavior he might consider being involved with in the future).
4. Pathetic !!! ,...
split ,   US   (07.11.13)
5. About time
Daniel Freedman ,   Nahariya   (07.11.13)
I am happy to see 'finally' the soldiers or police do something about this. The Arabs use their children to throw rocks, every week in the old city I would see this. And for you who think that these rocks can't hurt you or even kill you, come to Nahariya and I will throw a few at you as these little terrorist do toward Jews in the old city and we'll see it they do any damage to your thick skulls. Maybe, just maybe the child will remember our kindness to them as well.
6. from age 3 they are already terrorists
(07.11.13)
7. IDF protected this child
David ,   Shiloh Israel   (07.11.13)
Who on earth would encourage a 5 year old to do acts of violence (stones can kill, even for a driver having to swerve away from them), and put themselves in harm's way in the process? I'd like to know how such an incident would play itself out in a bleeding liberal heart Europe? I don't care who feels they have a right of compalint, haredim, settlers, secular, arabs or others...there are legal ways of communicating one's views. Encouraging kids to illegal violence and possible self-destruction is definately not an acceptable act.
8. they always throw stones
hebron residents   (07.11.13)
9. Stones
pcnetdoc ,   Israel   (07.11.13)
I wonder who taught him to throw rocks at Israeli cars ( perhaps the father?)
10. This is your latest "scoop", Ynet? Pathetic.
Jake   (07.11.13)
11. Stone today...
Mira ,   tel aviv   (07.11.13)
...grenade tomorrow, suicide bomb belted the day after. The army did they right thing. Maybe this will at least 'shake up' the Palestinian community and deter other vandals.
12. At age 5 a child is no longer a baby
BENJABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (07.11.13)
he is NON-SUI JURIS, capable of understanding his actions Which in this instance was taught to him by his mother, while he was being suckled at her brreast
13. #4 Split, how true, you are
BENJABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (07.11.13)
Meanwhile back in the USA , kids of age 3 or 4 are playing with guns and killing their friends and family
14. as are YOU!
(07.11.13)
what reponsible parent takes his 5 year old to a scene in which he can possibly get hurt??? and what responsible parent sends his 5 year old to throw rocks??? knowing the outcome? and if the rock killed someone, who will be blamed???? the "pathetic" israeli idf, according to you???? rock throwing is illegal no matter where and parents that allow their 5 year olds to do this are themselves irresponsible criminals and parents. but, not you, sirry, you will bring your infant to throw rocks at jews, considering your vile antisemitism.
15. 5-year-old Palestinian detained by IDF
Mario ,   Rome -Italy   (07.11.13)
Another proof the IDF is nothing but a criminalized gang of terror , specialized in terrifying little kids. Way to go IDF.
16. In shock from the comments
Jonatan ,   Ramat gan   (07.11.13)
I'm in shock from what I read in the comments. The boy is after all 5 years old. The IDF did well in taking the father in custody but under no circumstance should have taken the boy. Lets not become irrational like the extremist we are dealing with.
17. #16 If the boy were not taken in custody
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (07.11.13)
the left wing nuts would be saying how despicable it was to seperate the boy from his father. This will be a learning experience for both of them and no harm will come to the child. There is nothing to complain about here.
18. Would you have done the same if it was a settler child?
Palestinian ,   Jerusalem   (07.11.13)
Definitely not.
19. #16 It may have taught him a lesson
Andrew ,   Delhi, Canada   (07.11.13)
It's not wrong to put some fear of the law into the young. As long as he was only detained and not beaten, what is the problem? His destructive and violent behaviour would and will only escalate if it isn't checked by some means. Teaching him that there will be consequences for his actions in a way to check that behaviour.
20. child detention
sarit ,   Jerusalem ISRAEL   (07.11.13)
I fail to see the shock value. If you look at other western democracies, they also detain young children and turn them over to either their parents or to juvenile authorities. Here the child was detained, given to his parent and both were released to the Palestinian police.
21. Teach them...
Roman   (07.11.13)
I do love this one, no more stone thrwoing five years old in Israel period!!! Good lesson to learn from IDF that can educate Palestinian children better than their parents.
22. No16 NO ! the boy must be admonished and sternly warned !
trump   (07.11.13)
23. Arresting 5 year-olds
VickiV ,   Jerusalem   (07.11.13)
If anyone believes that arresting a 5-year old is the mission of the IDF or is crucial to Israel's security, then they are severely delusional. Billions of shekels spent on security and the army is arresting children? This must stop!
24. The colonisation has definitely corrupted the Israelis
(07.11.13)
Israeli society is sick!!!
25. #17 #19 #22 no, no and no
Jonatan ,   Ramat gan   (07.11.13)
The IDF has rules and law to follow. We have to show them we are better than them. U seem to forget this was a 5 year old boy. His father should be in prison not him.
26. The film looked like very correct behaviour to me
Mark ,   London, UK   (07.11.13)
Was the 5-year old under any form of supervision at the time? If a 5 year old child were behaving badly in my country the police might well become involved and behave in exactly the same way as these soldiers. What happened off screen may reveal another story.
27. a child
forehead1 ,   usa   (07.11.13)
how many stones have the settlers thrown at him while he was walking to school? it happens daily
28. #25 Yes, yes and yes...
Eaglebeak ,   Left Coast, USA   (07.11.13)
nowhere did we say the boy should be thrown in prison. Quit being a drama queen and putting words into peoples mouths that were not spoken.
29. A 5 year old...
A Jerusalemite ,   Jerusalem, Israel   (07.11.13)
From known behaviour patterns my guess would be that the child was out with a bunch of other children. They were probably all throwing stones, because that is something that they do... Under no circumstances should a child of 5 be arrested, with or without his father's presence. The child is obviously terrified. He has certainly heard frightening stories of what the IDF will do - most probably mainly untrue - like ghost stories. The parent's lack of supervision of these children is a subject that must be addressed. The father was at work. Where was the mother? Who are the other children seen in the video - older brothers? Calling in the father was the right thing to do. Arresting a 5 year old was not.
30. Rifle Safety Chamber Flags
Brizzle ,   Ohio, United States   (07.11.13)
Perhaps it's appropriate to note that all of the soldiers have red/orange safety chamber flags (or open bolt indicators) in their Tavor's. I challenge anyone to find a similar practice employed by another fighting force while "in the field". The IDF shows a much greater level of restraint than any other fighting force.
