31. This reads a little put up by the PA
r ,   Atlanta   (07.11.13)
but, if I read between the lines the boy was emulating older boys, and the IDF foolishly thought they could make a difference in this boys life by showing him there are consequences for bad behavior...I doubt his dad was hit unless he behaved violently toward the soldiers....why was his kid unsupervised?
32. stone, next a molotov
Derek Roma ,   Antwerpen   (07.11.13)
I lost an eye at age 4 because a 6 year old friend threw a stone to me..as a joke.....but was that friendly fire ?
33. The kid will learn from the IDF like the Jewish kids learned
Ken ,   Burma at Peace   (07.11.13)
from the SS
34. So ?
Mike ,   NZ   (07.11.13)
Just as well this didn't happen in Syria . . both father and son would have been shot or beheaded . . maybe even both . . . tell that to B'Tselem
35. #16: Wrong Answer!
emanon ,   USA   (07.11.13)
If the stone thrower is not brought in, at least to explain the consequences of his actions, this only encourages the adults to teach / train their kids to do the dirty work. In the US, I'm not proud of it but it is true, kids well under 13 years old used to be used carry drugs because they either got no sentence or a very light punishment. Laws changed and the practice has diminished. Unless someone was hurt, I don;t advocate sentencing a 5 year old to jail, but a little "scared straight" lesson with photos and fingerprints might make them think about it.
36. Instead...
Jordan Ariel ,   USA   (07.11.13)
How about we reward the child for throwing stones instead? If he throws a stone that injures one of us, lets give him a larger reward. If he throws a stone that kills one of us... lets give him a pony. Sound ridiculous? So do you.
37. Note little girl at start
David ,   AmsterdamNetherlands   (07.11.13)
Seems to be the same girl and cast that stars in all the B'tselem films. I'm not sure what the point of the article is
38. #25 No one is in prison...
Andrew ,   Delhi, Canada   (07.11.13)
The boy was only temporarily detained, not arrested and send to prison or even kept in jail. It's better to show him a taste of negative and unwanted consequences now than wait until the behaviour is ingrained and reinforced by the notion that he can just get away with it.
39. @16 agree with you under israeli law it is forbiden to arres
dovdevan ,   ashdod,paris   (07.11.13)
a kid under this age of 12 what does it mean do we become crazy ?
40. Blaming the wrong people
Ephraim ,   Jerusalem   (07.12.13)
Instead of blaming the soldiers, we should be blaming a family and society that teaches 5 year olds that this is ok behavior. It's good the kid should learn that this is not acceptable. What is the alternative? Letting a boy know this is ok? I don't believe half the story, including that he had to pay thousands of dollars in fines. That's ridiculous if true, but again, I don't believe it. In any other society, a kid would learn not to do this, perhaps even see a social worker or psychologist. No one was put in prison. In America, a kid would probably suspended from school or even expelled if he threw rocks at a another student. If he threw it at someone because of his race or religion it would be even worse. This kid threw rocks. He was stopped, taken home, and told not to do it. What's the problem?
41. Yawn, who cares?!
Joe ,   Toronto, Canada   (07.12.13)
42. put kid into foster care
david ,   new york   (07.12.13)
i think if you send your 5 year old to throw stones, that's child abuse and the child should be placed in a foster home (and properly reared)
43. 23.
Birdi ,   Israel   (07.12.13)
The kid was not arrested. Did you see handcuffs on his hands? No you did not. Did you see the IDF force him into the jeep? No you did not. The kid was taken to the police station along with his father. The kid was cautioned & freed. No child of 5 is arrested & jailed in Israel. BTW, I hope you never feel the stones against your car as you are driving, as I did! Trust me, you don't want to know that fear.
44. consequence of Pali TV and LITTLE TERRORIST summer camps
(07.12.13)

BUSHA V"CHERPA

49. #18 When was the last time that
BEN JABO (MACHAL) ,   ISRAEL   (07.12.13)

50. 33.
Birdi ,   Israel   (07.12.13)
Burma at peace? How about putting your mouth at peace? Your comment is futile.
51. Rocks can KILL SO Israel MUST BE TOUGH!
Riva ,   Israel   (07.12.13)
As a victim of rocks being thrown at my car, I can tell you first hand that they are deadly and can cause the victims trauma as well, often for years after! Because it feels no different than a gunshot to the car! Arab Parents must STOP educating their small children to hate Jews and do CONSTANT VIOLENCE. They do this through children's TV, terrorist training summer camps for kids, no less! and even in the home and community! Finally, Israel is teaching this small child that rock throwing comes with a hefty price!
52. This smells like another propaganda set up against Israel...
EST ,   Miami USA   (07.12.13)
Where is this so called human rights organization when the stones (rocks) thrown by Palestinians make Israeli cars overturn and crash maiming and killing innocent Israeli civilians???including babies???? Nowhere to be found!!!! This is just another incident of provocation and a set up like the many others we have uncovered by organizations that use the very convenient shield of human rights when in reality they want to eliminate the only Jewish state in the world.
53. Adele
Rhonda ,   Chicago, USA   (07.12.13)
And meanwhile, little Adele, a victim of rock throwing I believe was finally released from the hospital yesterday, a victim along with her family of rock throwing. This 5 year old kid was not arrested by the IDF yesterday. He was taken along with his dad into custody and then turned over to Palestinian authorities. In watching the video it all looks very poignant what with his crying and stomping up and down. I don't see the soldiers doing anything mean or unkind. All this sympathy for this young rock thrower and meanwhile there was little Adele whose release was a small story in another paper having been terrorized while her family were the victims of the attack and then standing vigil while the kid fought for her very life in intensive care. Who's the victim? Stop role modeling rock throwing to your kids and then they won't have a bunch of young guys in olive uniforms who'd rather be playing soccer or out with their girlfriends instead escorting them into an IDF vehicle.
54. And the parents jailed
Bart Benschop ,   Claremont Australia   (07.12.13)
The parents should be jailed as well for child abuse in a Muslim jail with regular Friday beatings.
55. B'T selem propaganda videos
Anna M Sedda ,   Rome-Italy   (07.12.13)
we all know B'T sellem videos:palestinians send their little children to trow stones to soldiers while they are calling the TV to show how bad the jews are....i do not know why ynet keeps posting them...Those children should be taken out of their families and given to a decent parenting couple...
56. Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha, Ha,,,, a 5 year old boy
Linda ,   New Haven, Conn   (07.12.13)
LMAO ,,,,Israel you got a long way to go,,,,, or maybe a short one. Alicia Keys and her 5year old should have stayed for this one. Israel after all you are PROPHETIC.
57. 49. A Jewish car???
(07.12.13)
58. The horror, the horror
Michael Lesher ,   Passaic, NJ USA   (07.12.13)
I didn't expect an apology from the IDF. But it's chilling to see them turning this assault into a pretext for demonizing B'tselem. It's doubly chilling to see how many readers find nothing outrageous in this all-too-typical brutality. But that's the point, isn't it? Make the unconscionable routine, and it becomes invisible. If Israel succeeds, it's fate that awaits a great many of us -- the most chilling reality of all.
59. IF IT WAS SYRIA, GAZA, EGYPT, IRAN, THEY'd CUT OFF HIS HANDS
JewSixPack ,   AMERICA THE BEAUTIUL   (07.12.13)
He was lucky it was the IDF, not the iranian Red Guard or the Egyptian Intel services.
