31. graczec: inconvenience of the Jews
jdc ,   New York, US   (07.12.13)
Or, alternatively, could it be that your belief system, whose legitimacy is apparently predicated on the demise of the Jews is being blatantly challenged by current events ? As time goes by, you may have to admit that Hebrew prophets were right after all. Otherwise, what are their writings doing in your Bible ?
32. #27: Of course!
Igor ,   Germany   (07.12.13)
It's easy: Anisemitism is a way of justifying being evil. Since our (western) morality derives from Judaism, declaring Judaism flawed is an easy way to justify one's own deviations from moral norms. Portraying Jews as bad is a way to declare Judaism flawed. So what the Antisemites actually try to say is "Yes, I disrespect the moral norms (derived from Judaism), but they are wrong, anyway! Just look at the Jews how bad they are!"
33. Israel is not in Scandinavia or Micronesia
Rob ,   USA   (07.13.13)
surrounded by the peaceful regimes and in case of Micronesia by sweet people. Israel is surrounded by those who want the see Jews dead. Therefore, one must apply the regional context to everything Israel does.
34. Demonization Of Israel
Rosalie ,   Tauranga   (07.13.13)
What a load of unmitigated garbage they are trotting out. Don't tell me the masses are once again listening to that claptrap. I thought that we had gained some common-sense, some intelligence since the time of Hitler's welcome demise. If they are listening to those lies then it would appear not. They may again be sliding down the same slippery slope as the Roman Empire - who by the way also listened to such obvious rubbish.
35. #5 6 7 8 12 13 26 27 and similar antisemitism apologists
Tahl   (07.13.13)
Have you actually read and internalized the message in this op-ed? The author does not object to legitimate criticism of Israel. But rather, she proves how criticism of Israel has become a mere excuse for the expression of blatant old-school antisemitism, as depicted by this despicable caricature - which is cannot be considered legitimate by any means. No one is trying to say that Israel is beyond criticism, but are many more appropriate places to voice it. And when you voice such comments as "maybe we are responsible for this" or "Israeli society is corrupted by the illegal occupation" or "you can criticize any country but not Israel" in response to this particular op-ed - then you justify this caricature, and justify antisemitism, plain and simple. In this case there is no middle ground. You are either with the enlightened society, or with the hateful antisemites. Choose your side.

There is no written record about someone called Jesus who performed miracles etc between 4BC and 33 AD. If he existed then he was a Jew who only knew Jewish Holy scrolls and none of them mention the nonsense of the New Test.Post 30 is correct. You are an ignorant Jew hater and stupid to boot. Have a good day.
37. #5 LOL
Danik   (07.13.13)
My initial response was GTFO, but then it occurred to me that ther is no harsher punishment for an anti-semitic loser than to have to live in Israel and have to see Jews more successful than his/her pathetic self every day.
38. Few comments
Salomon ,   Sao Paulo, Brazil   (07.13.13)
1. Europeans have been predominantly anti-Semitic; it is historical fact. Their antissemitismo is atavic, it is cultural and transmitted through generations. 2. However the PC devoir doesn´t allow those Europeans to manifest openly their anti-Semitism, towards European Jewish citizens. 3. Then comes the route of escape through which the Europeans can channel their anti-Semitism: The anti-Zionism. It began as an Arab and British sentiment toward Jews in Palestine and their supporters in Europe. Then in the 1950 begins the modern anti-Zionism, as a a soviet tool (inspired by Stalin) against Israel, that refused to align with the URSS... We shouldn’t forget the huge influence of the Soviet Communism on the intellectuals and the media in the West.... Here we see the origin of the neo anti-Semitism, the anti-Zionism.
39. 27.Has it occured to you to ask the question
J.K. ,   Brooklyn USA   (07.13.13)
why did Turkey kill a million and a half Armenians ?.very simple,a great number of people are evil and sadistic, and when the government tells them, the Armenians are a threat to us,the Jews are a threat to us,the populace is ready to kill, after all it is aproved by the highest authority in the land, the government.
40. anti-israel is not antisemitism. Racism
Jim   (07.13.13)
is racism. Playing the victim, the holocaust and persecuted cards are no longer being accept as a pass for israeli war crimes and crimes against humanity.
41. #40 You are talking about playing cards
Isac   (07.13.13)
The Christians having tried so hard to exterminate the Jews throughout the centuries wherever they lived is NOT playing a card. Whatever card you may want to call it. It is a fact it is real and we won't allow anymore to attack the Jewish people. May it be in Germany, Greece or Israel. Those times are over. We are going to defend ourselves and we will take you down really good if necessary. I am really tired of the Anti-Jewish, Anti-Israeli BS from you morons!! Just leave the Jews alone and try focus on the problems of the world. Get a life!!!
42. Sueddeutsche Zeitung isn't anti-Jewish and isn't anti-Israel
N. ,   N.   (07.13.13)
This type of picture is a "Karikatur" and is very common in German newspapers with the aim to comment on politics. All aspects of politics and society - with the exception of groups that are considered to be in danger - can be subject to this this form of critique. A "Karikatur" needs to exaggerate. The "Sueddeutsche Zeitung" is one of few German newspapers that - albeit a big player in southern Bavaria - doesn't fully integrate into mainstream media. If the mainstream would condemn a person or a group, it would try to find mitigating circumstances. If the mainstream would glorify something it is a little bit suspicious. But I must admit, that I do seldom actually read this newspaper because it is way too big.
43. Copycat cartoonist
Dina ,   USA   (07.13.13)
Looks like they copied the horned monster in Maurice Sendak's Where the Wild Things Are. "Karikatur" or amateur?
44. Anti-Semitism/Anti-Jew
ltrail ,   United States   (07.14.13)
We here in America, despise anti-Semitism/anti-Jewism. This new anti-Semitism, is covert and hideous. Instead of saying we hate the Jews, they say we hate Israel. Know this, many of us in the world love Israel and love the Jews. The Sueddeutsche Zeitung is not the voice of Germany and all. It is a despicable voice that needs to be silenced by truth, and by morality of the German people.
45. Article of confused messages
Shachar ,   Eilat   (07.14.13)
Anti-semitism is an ancient irrational hatred of all Jews and outlawed in most Western countries. Anti-Israelism, like anti-Americanism, has it's roots in current conflicts and like it or not comes under freedom of speech. The fact that anti-semites learned to use anti-Israelism doesn't make it illegal. The German cartoon was reasonable political comment. The cartoon says Germany is building/feeding a monster by selling Israel weapons. What we need to do is explain ourselves, not scream anti-semitism whenever a cartoon appears.
46. 36 @ John from oz.
