It's no coincidence that this EU statement comes just when the US is getting somewhere with restarting peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians. If a Palestinian state comes into being it will not be able to cope with the amount of Palestinian refugees going there. These refugees won't be refugees anymore and they won't stay in this new state. They will flood the EU and surrounding Arab states, something the EU and the Arab League doesn't want to happen. So the EU (and Arab league) will talk up support for the Palestinian cause, send vast amounts of money etc. but will do everything in their power to actually stop a palestinian state coming about. The EU (and Arab league) wants things to stay as they are. They don't want millions of Palestinians flooding into Europe and Arab states.
