2. Even religious people have to choose to be religious

and the question of personal autonomy against halachic subjection is a big one. Most people who go into the Rabbinate and communal service should undergo a certain amount of therapy for 2 reasons. 1 so that they will better understand themselves which allows them to help others better and 2nd so that they will be able to be completely honest with themselves thereby avoiding the awakening call of "WHAT? this is not who I am!" because they have the benefit of the therapy which helps them make honest decisions all across their personal time line.

secular world too.Parents pushing their children in a path they are not made for. If children don't know what they want to be,the best thing is to go to a pro who will find out which is their aptitude. These Rabbis didn't change. They never were . They did comply to their mother and later their wife's ambition. They can't go on as Rabbi. This is plain swindle. The change will be hard. But it is better to say "oh' first and "ah' afterwards than the opposite.
4. I will always believe in god..its the Rabbis I couldnt care

for. Them and their foile schtick be they orthoquack, conservadick, deformed or whatever. Its time we Jews took back our religion from these crooks. They know very little and they preach nonsense. Study our history, read the texts and be a mench in what you do day in day out. The rest will take care of itself. We don't need these self anointed menuvals.

6. The real question is..
Rabb ,   Wahsington D.C.   (07.28.13)
Would a man/woman in the Rabbinate forsake all in this life, even children to understand the ways of Peace, G-d's name, HaShem's name. Humans that grow, evolve and mature and learn at every level that Peace is very much the sustainer of our Physio, Bio, mental and spiritual lives. How could one, if Peace/HaShem is not wired into his circuitry be a Rabbi, Priest, Imam, leader of a people with confidence and guidance. Understanding Peace on this limited planet in this unlimited universe is so scientific that it can at times defy religiousity. For the early Hebrews a Rabbinate was not to much of consideration outside of living the Shema and keeping HaShem in the First Person. There and has always been a living G-d on this planet in everyone's life at sometime,,, ever present. A Rabbis faith should never waiver and the ways of Peace/HaSem must be wired into this circuitry and this body we call the Temple. It is just befitting and exact that the number 3 a stage of birth, the3rd. Temple, building, arriving at Peace brings us to Jeru-Salem, Yeru-Shalaim,, the suffix on the Hebrew Yeru-Shalaim has a dual meaning and reality,, 2 Peaces, inner and outer, inner in our hearts and bodies, outer in our world and environment, this is our Kiddush. Peace is the Alpha and Omega of our existence,, HaShem's name,, no matter how hard it is to achieve.
7. Religious education diminished faith
N ,   N   (07.28.13)
I've experienced an erosion of faith in a religious class as the big bang theory and a NASA technician's canting words were presented as a proof for G-d. It may seen odd, but it has been restored somewhat by the book of Koheleth.
8. Rabbis who lose God
NYC Girl   (07.28.13)
One of the things I've always found incomprehensible is how rabbis, many of whom possess a superior intellect, could ever believe in God in the first place. In fact, after the Holocaust, I can't comprehend how any Jew can believe in God.
9. Rabbis for Human rights
Alexander Scheiner ,   Israel   (07.28.13)
do not believe in God. They are supporters of the palestinian cause and act against Israel.
10. Never trust any Rabbis
Schlomo ,   Salomon Islands   (07.28.13)
The Rabbis is this world are the same than the Pope. The Pope sets himself higher than Jesus, and the Rabbis set themselves higher than Moschiach ben David. It is not a secret that Moschiach is on planet earth since 41 years. Why can't the Rabbis feel him. Why do they have no Connection to him, to the son of King David. Why does the Rabbis have never meet , protected and educated Moschiach ben David ? Why do the Rabbis not speak to the house of Israel, that Moschiach is on earth in Diaspora ? All this questions lead to one answer: Yeshuah ben Joseph has spoken the truth, this Rabbis aren't jews, they are only the Synagoge of Satan. None of the Levites in this world can come into the temple, no Rabbis will be allowed to come into the temple. The only one who shall stay in the temple is Moschiach ben David. Rabbis are only rats, the same rats than in the vatican the cardinals.

12. 3 Ora more than a few...
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (07.28.13)
I remember that one of the former chief Rabbis in Antwerp once told my father that in fact he was a moderate Rabbi but that he was forced to become more extreme because his community was becoming more orthodox. Should he have resigned?. I also remember that the head of the yeshiva in Antwerp was forced to resign when he said that kids who had not the aptitude to become Rabbis should learn a profession. One was honest to his ideas and had to resign the other kept silent . Who was right?
13. What about the children
Haya ,   Bat Yam   (07.28.13)
I can only imagine how many children there are in religious families who are living a double life - religious at home; but secular when they go out.

How very careless of them.
15. THIS AUTHOR LOOKED FOR BAD
...DACON9   (07.28.13)
AND HE FOUND IT. as our Torah teaches. look for GOOD and you will that also. It all depends on the individual who has struggles in life and is to weak to accept and repent and believe. by the way, you who mentioned jc, nothing ever came good from jc since his birth and your hallucinations of what you want him to be but he consistantly failed. YOU SHOULD PRAY TO WHO jc PRAYED TO..'ONE G-D'
16. #6 Rabb
lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (07.28.13)
A lot of pleasant sounding words strung together but without any cohesion. The dogmatic assertion that a GOD is always, before and hereafter is all very well if blind faith is your bag; however it would be helpful if the comments related to the actual article of how a Rabbi who no longer believes in fairies but is still able to continue as a hypocrite other than the fact that it pays the bills and is a rather pleasant lifestyle; pretty typical of all those in the faith industry.

18. Humans grow and change. So?
mea   (07.28.13)
To even consider it noteworthy that some rabbis lose faith is to accept that they are somehow superior, since every person grows and changes in nature. It would require me to believe they are exceptional, maybe even superior for this to be news. Are we suppose to believe that the experience of rabbis is more meaningful than the experiences of the multitudes? I will say that I find it interesting that the "strictly Orthodox" rabbis felt uncomfortable wearing the clothing and parroting their community. Now they know the motivation of Reform, which allows a person to remain in this world and be part of the broader community AND to be observant and involved. It's a called balance and it would solve this problem for many. It's called not taking yourself so seriously that you have to dress in 12th century theatrical garb.
19. 12Robert Honesty is a MUST
ORA ,   JERUSALEM   (07.28.13)
Why do you think it was dishonest for the chief Rabbi to adapt himself to the higher level of his community?
20. An Atheist Rabbi would have been better
Yossi   (07.28.13)
...than the pedophile rabbi I had to deal with for four years at Yeshiva University High School for boys during the late seventies. Thank G-d, I was not his type and he never made a move on me but he did manage to ruin the lives of countless students. He eventually moved to Israel and became a director at the great Synagogue in Jerusalem but resigned after the scandal went public. YU's administration knew about his exploits for years but chose to cover up his crimes. The saddest part is that due to NY's stature of limitation laws regarding sexual abuse, these rabbis can never be prosecuted.
21. A philosophical perspective
Raph ,   Melbourne   (07.28.13)
So what? Doubt is an essential element of religious faith. According to Rashi, that's why the Israelites worshipped the Golden Calf so soon after literally hearing the voice of Hashem at Sinai. After hearing Hashem's voice, they had no CHOICE but to believe. Suddenly their faith was not based upon free will. Their faith was meaningless. Hashem therefore infused the Israelites with religious doubt and an urge towards idolatry. This is what made their faith meaningful. That is why the Holocaust is never a mature argument against faith. Free will and religious doubt are essential for genuine mitzvot...and that sadly requires bad things happening to good people. I was raised in a reform shule. I'm now frum. Reform is not real Judaism. It's a hollow, cynical shell that casts away the difficult mitzvot that lead to self-improvement.
22. Traditional Judaism is actually scientific:
Samuel Fistel ,   USA   (07.28.13)
1) The "Big Bang" = divine creation from nothingness. 2) Evolution = the six divine days of creation with divinely guided evolution. 3) The Duality and Uncertainty Principles = the soul and human free will.

25. #9 yes, becuase the Tanach is devoted to human rights.
bobk ,   orlando us   (07.28.13)
The Torah, prophets and other books of the Hebrew bible are all devoted to teaching and safeguarding human rights beginning with ' you shall love the other as yourself and you shall love the stranger. Therefore the rabbis for human rights movement is fundamentally dishonest by implying that only they, who promote Palestinians and attack Israelis, are the true human rights advocates. .They may believe in God but they do not support the human rights. of Israelis.
26. Invisible Black unicorn
Believer in the IBU ,   Long Island, US   (07.28.13)
Raph, I see you don't believe in the Invisible black unicorn. I know why. " Doubt is an essential element of religious faith." Once he exposed himself and his awesome blackness combined with invisibility in the shape of a unicorn, People " had no CHOICE but to believe. Suddenly their faith was not based upon free will. Their faith was meaningless." The IBU therefore infused the people with religious doubt and an urge towards idolatry and false gods like Yehovah, Jesus and Mohammed. This is what made their faith meaningful. The IBU loves free will (and Free Willy) and loves giving cancer to little kids so these things confirm his existence and goodness.
27. Religious UNbelievers are called "children of the devil" by
Rivkah   (07.28.13)
the greatest Jewish Rabbi, Yehoshua of Nazareth. They will have a worse place in hell than mere unbelievers. They will be with the murderers and violent murderers in their eternal punishments. Better to have no religion or religious affiliations than to be a pretender.
28. 19 Ora He had to say things in speeches...
robert ,   antwerp belgium   (07.28.13)
he did not agree with because his community was getting more extreme, not on higher level, and couldn't say what he believed in because he would have been kicked out like the head of the Yeshiva, who is a real Tsadik and had eggs thrown at his head.
29. I heard a rumour
Sagi   (07.28.13)
that the new Chief Rabbis have commissioned a start up to develop and produce a kosher subcuteneous GPS system that will be mandatory for all Rabbis and will prevent them from "losing God".
30. rabbis
split   (07.28.13)
It is well known that rabbis are the most perverted people on earth. Look at what they have done to the palestinians and the blacks.
