Thank you for reminding people that even if they don't accept the possibility that she was an anti-Semite, she was wholly unqualified to make pronouncements regarding the Israeli/Palestinian conflict precisely because she didn't even know that the majority of Israelis didn't originally come from Europe...a fact that, with just a few minutes worth of research, would have become evident. I do not care a whit which profession a person has. Antisemitism is antisemitism, period. If Helen Thomas had been a doctor, a store clerk or anything else, her ugliness would never have been tolerated. But she took advantage of her position and the good that she had accomplished and she risked it and lost in order to blurt her racism and destroy her credibility. Her legacy is one of ugliness, both physically and spiritually. Now, the world will quickly forget her name.

Helen Thomas was a ground breaker for women's rights and journalism but she was also an anti-semite who made virulent remarks about Israel, Jews and the Holocaust. There are those who claim that her words were the words of an old woman while there are also many people who knew her that have stated she held those views for a very, very long period of time. A groundbreaker for women? Absolutely, yes. An anti-semite? Sadly, also absolutely, yes.
