1. An assumption
israel israeli ,   tel aviv   (07.28.13)
Dugulin's argument is valid only if the goal is to achieve peace with Israel. Since the publically-declared binding Arab goal is to destroy Israel (read PLO and Hamas Charter), Dugulin's argument is at best a theoretical intellectual exercise.
2. The real precondition for peace.
Elsie. ,   Gush Halav.   (07.28.13)
I find your article Mr Dugulin rather one-sided, Israel also has its preconditions, so it takes two to tango in this on going saga.
3. Outstanding true article
Shalom Freedman ,   Jerusalem Israel   (07.28.13)
This piece is outstanding and accurate. But it is doubtful it will move the Palestinians and thier supporters one little bit. Why should they move? They are being supported in their intransigence. They believe themselves 'entitled' to everything. The more we give them the more they resent and hate us. Their envy and resentment will prevent any deal but a total capitulation from our sidea
4. 100% correct analysis, but.......
tiki ,   belgium   (07.28.13)
it won't happen because the world has gotten used to the 'Israel is guilty' mantra. The 'Jews rule the world & banks' hasn't been rooted out, so this one won't either. The bankrupt world (financially & morally) always needs a black sheep to blame and the Jew/Israel has always been/is an easy target. It's not only the world who is to blame....self hating Jews & spineless Israeli governments also lend a helping hand to this phenomenon. Jews/Israeli's still haven't learned that if you give one fingernail of good will to your opponent with no good will, they EXPECT your complete arm.
5. There never existed a country named Palestine
Rachel   (07.28.13)
There never existed a country named Palestine and no people called Palestinians. There exist borders set by the League of Nations in 1922 and San Remo agreements for the Jewish homeland and for the Arabs. Western side of the Jordan river to the Medeterranian sea the Jewish homeland, eastern of the Jordan river the land for the Arabs, Jordan. The Arabs did not accept the decisions and has since fought to have a Moslem pan Arabic entity instead of the Jewish homeland. The invention of the area as a country Palestine and a people Palestinians occurred mid 1960s as a tool to deligitmize the Jewish state and the elimination of it. The KGB and other communist dictatureship country's secret service helped the Arabs with the invention if this "special tool" It is stupid to negotiate with thieves and murdurers to give areas that belong to the Jewish state by international law.
6. Yes it would be nice,but....
Shachar ,   Eilat   (07.28.13)
Having such conditions fulfilled wuld be very good for peace talks but hardly essential. On the first point I doubt a PA/Hamas would ever manage to agree on anything between themselves. Gaza is geographically removed and ruled by a different gov't. That's not our problem, it's something they have done to themselves. Like Pakistan and Bangladesh they are now two separate entities. The second condition might come as a result of peace, but not before it. Third condition unclear and unrelated to peace talks.
7. i tell you what
Free ,   israel   (07.28.13)
There will be another intifada soon and a war as well. What the enemy want is to have more fighters. The palestinians and egypt will start the war. There is no peace objective. Don`t be stupid. Think!
8. The real preconditions for peace
Lazerbenabba ,   London, England   (07.28.13)
'The real preconditions for peace between the Jewish State and the Palestinians can be defined as follows: A single and legitimate Palestinian political body needs to be identified, Arab states and societies need to accept the concept of peace, and the international community should move to stop the current demonization of Israel.' This paragraph is the preeminent one and all the others may be ignored for all practical purpose; Why? The simple reason is that there is no one on this planet who believes that amongst the various sects, factions, different versions of Islamic belief and even the minority of secularists among the Arab nations who would even contemplate accepting the above. These disparate groups can not even agree to live with each other, never mind those terrible perfidious Jews. The waste of time and effort in attempting to negotiate the non negotiable is an example of hope against reality. I have always maintained that Israel should maintain the Status Quo, become stronger both economically and defence wise; rest assured that the Arab nations out of mercenary self interest will become bored , if they have not already with THE PALESTINIAN PROBLEM. There is no Arab nation that will go to war with Israel on behalf of the aforementioned as they have been burnt too often and badly in the past. Israel should ignore the issue pursue its own agenda and, yes, there will be ongoing problems on the way but nothing compared to a second GAZA called a Palestinian State on Israel's borders.
9. 914 words, 32 sentences, 23 paragraphs, of nothing, again
Steve Benassi ,   Silver Bay, MN USA   (07.28.13)
10. is Israeli freedom of speech for real
observer ,   Egypt   (07.29.13)
the word egypt is conspicuous by its absence on "Opinion".
11. Abu Mazen should start with un-denying
Beary White ,   Norway   (07.29.13)
.. that Holocaust actually did happen. In his doctoral thesis from 1982 he denied that the Holocaust had left 6 million Jews dead. In his book from -95 he refutes the Nazi Holocaust as "The Zionist fantasy, the fantastic lie that six million Jews were killed.". Later he as tried to reframe his own words. But he actualle should go open with a statement abouth his standing on Holocaust.!! Is that to much to expect from the PA -leader??
12. Belfour Declaration
Belfour ,   London   (07.29.13)
read the Belfour Declaration (2nd of November 1917), in which he states "establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people". What does Palestine stand for? Ask Zionists, who taught you all that you thought yourself to know.
13. Israelis too scared for peace
TaylorT ,   Earth   (07.29.13)
Which is a shame, because there will not be a better time than the present given how much of the Arab/Muslim world is in chaos. In five year's time, the civil conflicts in Egypt and Syria will likely be settled. And of course the possibility that the new governments will be even remotely pro-Israel is slim to none. So now is the time for Israel to do what it has to do in order to win over the West, the Palestinians, and a significant percentage of people throughout the MidEast who worry more about their daily lives than the 'zionist entity.' What so many Israelis in these talkbacks don't seem to realise is the vast majority of people in Syria, Iran, Egypt, etc. don't give on iota about Israel. If Israel makes peace with the Palestinians, the leaders of these nations will not have the Israelis to 'kick around any more.' Needless to say, 'destroying Israel' is much less important than how their going to feed their families. But will Israel take advantage of this opportune time? Probably not. Too scared.
14. incitement
rm ,   Amsterdam NL   (07.29.13)
and what about jewish incitement against moslims and arabs in general and palestinians in particular? That's quite nasty too and it's a problem just as well as incitement on the other side is.
15. @14: What Are You Rambling On About?
emanon ,   USA   (07.29.13)
Go back to the "coffee house". Your brain is fried. There are no alleged palestinians because there is no such place and there never was an independent country with that name, there are only terrorstinians.
16. hello?
dan ,   DC   (07.30.13)
the right of return is the issue. there can be no settlement of palestinians in israel if there is to be a palestinian state in most of the west bank. if that is not possible for the palestinians to accept, there will be no deal. lets get to this. i can't believe that kerry and netanyahu are ignoring this like it doesn't matter. it will matter when abbas asks incredulously "so, wait, you don't want to commit national suicide?"
