1. Israel must clearly CLAIM all of our land.
Chaim ,   Israel   (08.02.13)
The author is correct. By pretending we accept the monstrous Two State Final Solution, cowardly "leaders" like Bibi create our problems. We can't change the past. However, it is absolutely necessary for the vast patriotic Israeli majority to clearly CLAIM all or our land!
2. deeply embedded
Sherlock Holmes ,   London England   (08.02.13)
Deeply embedded in the Western Christian psyche is a view that Jerusalem will not be Jewish again until we recognise JC. I believe deeply embedded in the Muslim psyche is a similar view that Jews cannot return to Jerusalem until we recognise the final revelation of Mohamet. We, of course, are waiting every day for the coming of Moshiach. When we read the Kinnot for Tisha B'Av we understand how far Jerusalem has developed as a renewed Jewish capital. We feel Ezekiel's 'Dry Bones' coming back to life and we feel Isaiah's vision of the New Jerusalem, when 'My House [Jerusalem] will be called a House of Prayer for ALL peoples.'
3. JERUSALEM
H ROSEN ,   PA U S A   (08.02.13)
ONE CAN IMAGINE A PALESTINIAN PRESENCE IN JERUSALEM AS A A GOVERNMENT OF A HAMAS ---PLO COALITION...I BELIEVE THAT THE ISRAELI PUBLIC WILL BE CONFRONTED WITH THE MOST CONTENTIOUS POLITICAL ELECTION IN IT'S HISTORY WHEN THE SO CALLED PEACE AGREEMENT ..IF THERE IS ONE..IS PUT UP FOR A REFERENDUM I AM ALMOST CERTAIN BOTH THE PALESTINIANS AND THE ISRAELIS WILL REJECT IT...FOR THE PALESTINIANS ..NOT ENOUGH JEWISH SUFFERING..FOR THE ISRAELIS ..JUST PLAIN STUPID !!
4. Early June 1967...Isaiah 1:27
Adam Neira ,   Planet Earth   (08.02.13)
There are deep and profound metaphysical reasons why Moshe Dayan made the correct decision to not demolish the Golden Dome and/or Al Aqsa Mosque in early June 1967. Interested people should look up "The Song of Solomon". Suffice to say that pushing one of the imperatives before its time will prove dangerously counterproductive. For the reader's information, one of the primary and hidden meanings of the word "Redeem" is "To counter-balance." The 150,000 sq.m. trapezoid platform in the midst of the Old City is meant to be a redemptive space for the whole world. Like the centre of a series of concentric circles. (Think "House for all Nations" or "The process of all people turning to G-d".) It is also the centre and fulcrum of all deliberations regarding the Holy Land. Another prophecy is also relevant here... "Zion will be redeemed in judgement" - Isaiah 1:27
5. not learning from their own history
tiki ,   belgium   (08.02.13)
Jews probably aren't ready yet for having their own state, because of their nonchalance & ease in giving it away. What happened to Israel that it let an 'invented people take over the steering wheel and drive Israel to where 'they want them to go.
6. Lo normali!
michael Pielet ,   israel   (08.02.13)
Thank you Shula for stating the obvious. Obama, who has a foreign policy record of complete and total failure, is obsessive about establishing an arab-Islamic terrorist state in Judea and Samaria aligned with the terrorist state of iran. This terrorist state will be at the gates of Jerusalem and Gush Dan. Reality, Bibi is too weak to stand up to obama. Reality, a significant number of Jews possess a defective gene that allows them to promote a policy of appeasement of evil which will result in the death, maiming, and destruction of many Jewish children, women and men. Israel is a state lo normali.
7. True leader would acknowledge Yerushalim as Jewish Capital
Dina ,   USA   (08.02.13)
This is long over due. But, it will happen...Obama, Congress and Senate are a major disappointment.
8. The United City-YOK-united if you are Jewish and only Jewish
miki ,   tampa   (08.02.13)
Social services, schools, medical facilities, all inadequate or non-existent in half of the city plus exile should you marry the wrong person-your are crying crocidile tears.
9. SRH, excellent commentary
Cipora Julianna Kohn   (08.02.13)
the first and greatest sin was committed by dayan who literally threw to the four corners of the earth the blood of thousands who had fought to liberate jerusalem only to see her handed over to the enemy. the left in general lacks jewish pride and spirituality. they are always afraid of being judged of not being good enough in the eyes of the goyim who have murdered and tortured us for millennia and who to this day despise us and want us in the position of servitude, if not dead.
10. Even Lieberman would give up the Arab neighbourhoods
Sam ,   Canada   (08.02.13)
What is in Israel's overall interest? There has to be a rational and emotional balance. Israel's security needs, religion and history all have to be taken into account. But to get a deal, if there is one to be had, Israel like the Palestinians will have to compromise somewhere.
11. Let's note again, Rabin's view of a future accommodation:
Jehudah Ben-Israel ,   Qatzrin, Israel   (08.02.13)
1) Jerusalem will remain united under Jewish sovereignty and will also include the suburbs of Giv'at Zeev and Ma'aleh Adumim 2) All major Jewish settlement blocs will be incorporated into the sovereign state of Israel. 3) The Jordan Valley ought to be viewed in the widest sense of the term, and it too will remain under Israel's rule. 4) The future Palestinian Arab state will not be a regular state in that it will be totally demilitarized. Its airspace will be fully controlled by Israel, as will its boundaries and all of its border passes. (Knesset speech, 5 Oct. 1995) It is high time the US, Europe and some of us in Israel came to appreciate Mr. Rabin's realistic legacy.
12. over
eric apoe ,   usa   (08.02.13)
if any part of Jerusalem is given up Bibi may a s well give it all up ...it is over then
13. Israel for Sale
Bill Stein ,   USA   (08.02.13)
Israel for Sale by Obama Bibi Livni and Peres for personal greed and fame.
14. Jerusalem
john ,   toronto   (08.02.13)
If PM Netanyahu for four years could not bring peace then he is to blame. He insists on having PM Abbas as his peace partner. It looks like he is taking all the wrong steps. He neglected Jerusalem , he is reaping what he has sown.
15. The author avoids the main problem
Ivor Evenbiggergun   (08.02.13)
and that is when Israel was recreated in 1948 East Terusalem was designated as the capital of a future Palestinian State. The author seems to be confusing biblical Israel with the Israel reinvented in 1948 as somewhere to put the survivors of the Holocaust. You were not 'coming home' you were being resettled on a patch of desert on the edge of the Mediterranean where unfortunately people already lived
16. #1 Chaim - Where's the opposition?
Tracy   (08.02.13)
Your comments are always on the mark, but the problem is that the Jewish population does not make the effort to organize to stop their government from submitting to the US/EU plans for Israel. Israelis tell themselves that their MKs will protect Israel, while knowing perfectly well that MKs are there to look after their own interests first. You have all the arguments but without popular active support for them, Israel's future does not look good. I could name dozens of issues that would spark outrage in any other country, but in Israel they elicit only a yawn, or just quiet objection. There is no passion in the right to defend any principle whatsoever. Your enemies know it. You may lose Yesha, you may lose Jerusalem, and eventually you may lose everything else because nobody cares enough to defend it. Sure, they'll pick up a gun and fight for Israel in time of war, but any other effort - such as organizing an opposition - is too much for most Israelis. Now is be the time to oppose the enemy's demands, not later when the talks have advanced to a critical point.
17. #11 Jehuda Ben-Israel
Lazerbenabba ,   London, England.   (08.02.13)
Jehuda, it very refreshing to acknowledge that an individual has taken the trouble to actually ascertain the original statement of a true man of Israel; too often statements are made without objectivity or even truth. I really do hope that the present Israeli administration has the balls to confirm and act upon Rabin's belief and foresight.
18. Bibi, why not move everyone to Tel Aviv?
Yosi ,   Gilo-Jerusalem   (08.02.13)
This way, when Abbas and Obamba as you to start swimming into the mediterranean, you'll have a good start on the rest of us. What a coward and traitor. Following in the footsteps of Obamba, eh?
19. Using history to make claims leads nowhere
Reuven ,   Netanya   (08.02.13)
When are you going to learn, using the torah as a reference to claim something might work in countries like Iran but not in the western world. We got something, tried to take more and now we have to pay the bill ... pure and simple. Take your extreme religious thinking somewhere else and let the rest of us live in peace with our neighbors.
20. Key word. Enemy. It is not possible to negotiate in a war.
adi ,   Zurich   (08.02.13)
Key word. Enemy. It is not possible to negotiate in a war.
21. Jewish Homeland
Emes Said ,   Silver spring, USA   (08.02.13)
Balfour Declaration and Sykes Pico Agreement stated intent for at least a third of Transjordan to be designated as a Jewish Homeland. Holocaust could have Ben avoided as Nazis were willing to deport Jews to Palestine. eichmann even went to Palestine to explore deportation option. Arab refusal to save jews, and British forgetting their promise caused holocaust to happen, so arabs hand a large part in holocaust, even now people of Europe seek to deny jews their rights in this regard.
22. 15
CJK   (08.02.13)
the un cannot create states nor determine borders. the jews fought the war of independence and won against the combined armies of the arab hordes. we were not resettled. quite to the contrary, everyone tried to keep us out. however, those that came after the war of independence, had a home to come to. do not imagine one instant that we owe anyone our state, fought for and won with blood and tears.
23. #4 Dude, stop taking drugs, you don't make any sense!
Yosi ,   Gilo-Jerusalem   (08.02.13)
Maybe you would be more comfortable in India.
24. #16: Tracy: I told Chaim this many times
Israeli 2   (08.02.13)
except that you wrote it so much more eloquently. I fear the same. If the author is right about putting Jerusalem on the table for discussion, we do not have Israel as our country yet! Talking to each other is easy. Walking the streets of Israel and finally annexing our land with no "peace talks' discussions anymore is another story.
25. #15; you need to be de-programmed
Zipi ,   Tel aviv, Israel   (08.02.13)
You should read real history books; not Arab propaganda. The so called Palestinians are Arabs of nomads tribes who were wandering around the Middle east. Most of them are created fictions of people, or nations invented after World War I and II , like Saudi Arabia, Gulf states, Iraq, Jordan and also the Palestinians people. There never was a Palestinians state . They are no people called Palestinians ; this is the best PR in inventing people that never existed. All those 21 Arab nations were invented. The Arab Nations are all the same. . They talk the same language believe in the prophets Muhammad, hate the west, no women rights and hate democracy. Israel is the only nation that had a state in her borders long ago and often. Why don't you stop the brainwashing!
26. Congratulation
RS ,   Paris France   (08.03.13)
Finally I Listen the thru!!!!!!! I love the rightness......what is correct and historically. Why those people insist to build a legend that isn't thru. WHy the world let myths become thru!!!!!!! Jeruzalem was built by king David to be capital of Israel and it must continue like this forever.....
27. USA & EU hate themselves because...
Moshe   (08.02.13)
.....''He who curses Israel will be cursed!'' Look at the US & the EU : you can already see the curse working : Economical crisis, social crisis, political crisis.....To the US and the EU : Change or you face certain collapse !
28. 26.
Birdi ,   Israel   (08.03.13)
It will.
29. #4 Adam Neira
Austin ,   canada   (08.03.13)
You increasingly show yourself to be one of those few loonies who was left behind when the rest of you all decided to travel upwards on that expected golden comet which was passing by. How do you exist? I mean do you earn a living and can you?? You always talk such metaphysical nonsense that I don't believe that anyone who looked at your eyes wouldn't ring 911 for the loony wagon. You haunt this newspaper like the Black Plague. Why didn't you stay in Australia where at least you were are far a away as possible from sane humanity, other than Australians who must be used to you by now. Does it never strike you that you might be a bit "off" as far as the rest of thw world is???
30. Gutless israel
Amos ,   Canada   (08.03.13)
Israel of today. Is not the israel my parents fought for. It has become a gutless state. The israel of 1948 and the genration of fighters would have never listended to the US and other coountries let alone goat herders dictate peace terms. I would like to see the auS give back the lands they stole foe mexico before dictating to others
