The US Embassy in Israel is not surrounded by enemies....They have US and Israeli guards....that do a great job protecting it from would be attackers.... It's ludicrous to close the embassy in Israel...

The US embassy does operate on Sundays (Jerusalem and Haifa), it is just not open to the 'public.' The purpose of the closure is to protect American employees. We have also called the department of state in DC directly and the agent advised us to avoid any 'Western' activities, such as going to nightclubs. However, he stressed to avoid all protests and demonstrations and said that things can change overnight for the worse so to be prepared. Everyone who is making light of the situation and mocking or sprouting conspiracy theories- just stop. This is not a laughing matter.
