1. Violence is violence.
Tahl   (08.08.13)
As a secular person I am disgusted with the haredi practice of asking women to move to the back of the buses. But clearly, this does not justify vigilantism and violence, especially since in this case, the haredi man did not insist too much on his request. This matter could have been resolved with polite yet assertive words. I hope not too many idiots would justify this foul act, as was the case in the Hebrew version of this story.
2. Our very own Rosa Parks
Jacob E ,   Holon, Israel   (08.08.13)
Not the girl... the guy who did the hitting. Someone who has the guts to stand up to these people who would treat their own mothers like second class citizens.
3. A possible solution
JW ,   Haifa   (08.08.13)
This is a perfect Lapid issue. He needs to suggest that every fourth bus become a "Haredi Bus". The Haredim then have the option of riding on one the other three and putting up with the situation, or waiting until the fourth bus, in which they would be allowed to make such a request respectfully.
4. Excellent!
Mike ,   Tel Aviv   (08.08.13)
That'll teach them......
5. Jerusalem
(08.08.13)
We have to get rid of Jerusalem. Jerusalem does NOT represent Israel nor the Israeli society... or does it?
6. Chareidis have no right to dictate
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (08.08.13)
Bus driver should stop his bus, Lock the doors , Call the police wait for them Whenever an incident occurs. Chareidi have no authority on who travels and where the sit. He had a right to get off the bus if he was offended. I sympathise with the youth who hit the idiot.
7. Not a good idea for a Jew to hit another Jew
Al   (08.08.13)
It pains me to hear of this. I may not like Haredism but I will never ever physically confront a fellow Jew. This is truly sickening. Lets tone down the rhetoric.

Devorah ,   Jerusalem. ISR   (08.08.13)
9. Great Teaching
Jake h ,   Haifa   (08.08.13)
I think this is one Haredi who will never again ask a woman to move. The man who did this should be paid and put on random buses - the Haredi nonsense with women will stop in a month. They are good learners, right?
10. Good Job
N/A ,   Israel   (08.08.13)
Why should the police be looking for the "assailant" the guy did the right thing punching him in the face. Its about time!
11. The youth is a Hero.
Moshico ,   Jerusalem   (08.08.13)
And I thought it was only in films such as Batman and Superman and Robbin Hood but now I see Jerusalem has its own hero.
12. Haredi was the criminal
middlemex ,   London UK   (08.08.13)
This is how things were in fascist countries, segregation of jews, blacks, etc.
13. I Can't Condone the Violence, But . . .
emanon ,   USA   (08.08.13)
I won't condem the young man's standing up for the woman. Talk about a Lose / Lose situation. I don't know if I would have gone as far as hitting the haredi, but I too would have argued for the woman's right to her seat.
14. Sad
stuart ,   South Africa   (08.08.13)
United we are but divided as well. Israel has enough problems to deal with than to have to be distracted by petty issues such as this. Women do not need to sit at the back of a bus because they are women. Men do not need to be assaulted because they stupidly ask a woman to sit at the back of a bus. All Jews and supporters of Israel need to be united to jointly face the greater threat. There are Jews who slate Christians yet Christians support Israel and then there are Christians who slate Jews yet there are Jews who stand up for Christians. Just one example of stupidity. Am Israel Chai. That is the call. All who love Israel must put differences aside.
15. YOU can't stand the heat (the woman)....

16. Tahl makes an apt point - Violence is not acceptable
Jacob Blues ,   New York City, USA   (08.08.13)
as a response to this issue. There are other ways to deal with this as a civil society and taking a swing at those who disagree with our own lifestyle is not the way to do it. Yes, there is a reason for the outrage. Women should not be treated as second-class citizens, and if individuals in question are so sensitive to the presence of the female-gender, then they, not the rest of society, should make the exceptions. Eve was created to be Adam's equal, not an inanimate-object to be tossed around or shuttered at whim and will. But to resort to the fist, knife, sword, gun, or bomb, as a response, is also illegitimate. That is not how justice is pursued.

real vision ,   usa   (08.08.13)
if the heredi doesn't like women sitting on the front part of the busses then they can walk. For heredi to demand women to go to the back of the bus is outrageous. Time the PM and others in the govt to tell them to knock off this crap
22. @ 10 19 18 etc ...
Reuven ,   Netanya   (08.08.13)
These people are not afraid of women, they dare to tell them to go to the back of the bus, call them whores, etc ... why? Because their reasoning is that a woman does not hit back ... well that''s why it is good that a male stood up to this kind of behavior, as soon as they really understand that the majority of us does not want this kind of segregation, the sooner they will stop this.

Charles ,   Petach Tikva   (08.08.13)
and it's affixed in the Egged buses : everyone can sit where she/he wants , exept for reserved places for invalids . To ask a woman to move was wrong , but to hirt this charedi "man" was wrong too . This secular had better answered with words , and use force ONLY if the woman was harassed physically . I understand his anger , but words would have been better . That's the way i act .
