what is this obsession in the west and amongst Jews to go to help these places that don't want to be helped. Even when people leave these horrible places and come to the west, they make demands that the west accomodate their way of life. Stop this idealized fantasy life that you will change the world by teaching some kids ina village to read or digging a well. Volunteer in poor Jewish communities in central asia and eastrn europe, or help jews and non-jews in your own country.

While I wish the girts a speedy recovery and make the point that this was in no way their fault - i have to ask - why were they there in the first place? If they want to volunteer - there are plenty of opportunities to volunteer in Israel. The first rule of thumb should be to stay our of harms way if you want to volunteer - Jews who volunteer in Muslim countries (with some exceptions such as Turkey) are putting themselves in harms way. Again - they have my wishes and prayers for a quick recovery.

Yes, they should have volunteered elsewhere. Yes, it is not worth westerners volunteering in countries like that, they don't deserve any western help. But show a bit more respect and compassion for these girls. No need for insults. A moment's thought would have revealed that they chose Zanzibar for their charity work because it is exotic and a learning experience. the idea being sold by the liberal jewish community is that jews must help first and foremost non-jews, including muslims. it is the new craze. the parents dare not oppose their community, and indeed, agree that charity should be done for people who mostly despise the west and jews in particular. there was a time when parents were the guardians of their children, but no more.

some places are more dangerous, and sadly these girls chose one of them. I wouldn't go anywhere where I had to hide my Identity, and can find plenty of places to volunteer where they wouldn't care if I was from Mars. Even in a place like Zanzibar you will find people who know London and its population very weIl, These girls said that they came from North London. They do not look typically English. They most likely took a good guess. or had some good information , It was a risky venture that went wrong.
