Benoa   (08.15.13)
It's easy to find out when Jewish holidays occur, just go to hebcal.com, or alternatively chabad.org.
32. insensitivity
Norman Gellman ,   Rehovot   (08.15.13)
This just shows the insensitivity of the scheduling committee. Schedules should be approved by all sides before being published. If the Belgian's have a conscience they would refund the money.
33. Yom kippur is best for riding bicycles on streets &freeways.
Michael ,   California, USA   (08.15.13)
People do it all the time in Israel and do not pay any fine. No doubt, they can do other sport on Yom kippur, like playing tennis, and not pay any fine. There is no logic in stopping anybody from playing tennis, so the Belgians are correct in demanding the Rabanut Haroshit pays the ten thousand Euros.

What to do on Yom Kippur may be a personal decision, but Israel represents a Jewish country. As it represents Israel and Jews, the scheduling committee should have taken Yom Kippur into account.

If I had the money, I would give it to Israel to help them recover their loss from the fine... Very proud of Israel for putting their principles out there. Also, I think if the Israelis had played it says to the rest of the world, "See. Even the Israelis don't care about the holidays." Maybe some Israelis don't care but this is the Jewish state and non Jews do watch to see how the Israelis do things.
36. # 4 re: # 4 or Rammadam
BUILD BABY BUILD !!! ,   United States   (09.01.13)
Why not insist all religions be fined for not playing games on their highest of religious holidays....
37. IT WAS WORTH IT!!
BUILD BABY BUILD !!! ,   United States   (09.01.13)
What's a few dollars when pleasing our G-d? it's the Belgium's who are cheap and barbaric, we all know that. BUILD MORE AND FASTER!!!
38. Tennis on Yom Kippur
Henry Tobias ,   Maale Adumim, Israel   (09.04.13)
Bet they wouldn't have fined a Muslim for not playing on a Muslim holiday. The Muslims would send a guy with an explosive belt to bomb the BTA and the ITA

Everybody knows? "everyone knows about Rosh Hashana and Yom Kippur and that it's around September." There are only 16 million of you-remember?? No-one cares about your little holidays.

If it was Ramadam it would be 1 month without playing.
