Everyone agrees there is no Mitzvah of destroying Amalek because even in remote antiquity Amalek ceased to be a separate tribe. Today it's a figure of speech to say remember those who would like to uproot Torah from Israel. The 'minim' mentioned are those Jews who left Judaism for another faith and then falsely attacked Judaism.

Minim means "sectarians" and each of the major 3 Judaic sects called the others minim. Later, it included Christians and Sadducees faded out of existence. Minim still means sectarians and Haredim richly deserve the term.

Though not considered a talmid of HaRav Shteinman, I know enough to be very, very skeptical regarding this report. I find it very hard to believe that Rav Shteinman said this, and would like to have a source verified. Unfortunately, the reputation of the media lends one to doubt the veracity of the article. As far as those calling for the Rav to react or to "clarify", I really doubt that he even knows that the things were said in his name, if they indeed were. A bit of credit, people.

Rav Schteinman for his knowledge in Thora and simplicity in his way of life. The stature he has acquired in the orthodox world gives him a special responsibility both on what he says , doesn't say and what he is supposed to have said. In the case of Lapid, it is his responsibility to deny, if he didn't compare Lapid to Amalek. The reason why is because such a comparison is a call to murder Lapid ( timhe et zecher amalek). Guedolei hador have a special responsibility to maintain the unity of the Jewish people, that's why they should avoid any agressive declaration and should be ready to condemn people from their own flock if they behave badly

He has certainly people around him who have heard or seen this story , and , because it's such a serious accusation , will tell it . So , if he didn't say it , he has no excuse for not denying it .

This guy is an enemy to all of us. His policies are driving more people into poverty. We can barely get through the month with all the price hikes and new taxes, and yes, my wife and I both work. According to the authorised version of the Singer's Siddur [Lord Jakobovits edition] the minim are 'informers' and 'slanderers' and we ask G-d to 'humble the dominion of arrogance'. I don't see how it applies to the Israeli govt and I suspect that Rabbi Steinman, a recognised Gaon and Gadol , did not say quite what is attributed to him.

A spokesperson for this rav is also fine , but some here can't accept this either . They are blinded by their naivity and general ignorance , and can only correct when someone writes an error [ a D instead of a T ]
