1. Are jihadists innocent "civilians?"
Steve   (08.18.13)
2. How many of those "civilians" killed
DT ,   TA Israel   (08.18.13)
are plain clothes Mulsim Brotherhood shooting at the army or inciting civilans to do just that ?. Less one forget that Islamic terror uses civilians, women and children as human shields in promoting terror
3. McCain, Graham, Rand Paul, out to lunch on Islam.
Steve   (08.18.13)
Some Americans do not deserve to survive. I am talking about those (like Rand Paul, John McCain, Lindsey Graham, John Boehner, etc.) who sympathize with jihadists whose motto is: “Allah is our objective. The Prophet is our leader. Qur'an is our law. Jihad is our way. Dying in the way of Allah is our highest hope.” Some bleeding hearts do not have a clue.
4. Democracy in Arab countries bring Islamists opposed to US
Sam ,   Canada   (08.18.13)
The US will have to decide. When there is a democratic vote in Arab countries it brings in Islamic governments who oppose the US. The clergy in the mosques tell the people to vote Islamic. So, the US will have to choose between pushing democracy and what is in its own best interests. In the US case its usually Arab dictatorships.

7. Egyptian aid has always been about Israel
TaylorT ,   Earth   (08.18.13)
As it began under US President Carter with the Camp David Accords where Egyptian were basically bribed to play nice with the Israelis. Pathetically, hyper-nationalistic Israelis don't like to admit that it's thanks to the US that Egypt for the last thirty-five years has not actively seeked Israel's destruction. Now, of course, the Americans are in a bind. If the aid is cut-off, the influence the US has over events in Egypt becomes nil (it's already close to zero.) But common sense says having close to zero influence is better than NO influence, but is this tiny bit of influence worth billions of dollars and the US tacitly looking like it supports the Egyptian army as it guns down civilians? I'd say no. Of course the result of cutting off aid to Egypt means the US won't have any influence whatsoever when, in a few years, Egyptians start again banging the war drums against Israel. A small price to pay, in my opinion.
8. 7& Taylor T, Yes but not quite
Tarbouche ,   Aswan   (08.18.13)
Carter strong armed the peace with guarantees against withdrawal from Sinai, and some aid to Egypt. Peace was worth an open Suez and Oil flow. Whichever way you look at it, Egypt needs peace to feed and educate its exploding population. Israel can help Elephant in the room was Obama who tripped over himself whilst trying to outsmart everybody; He was not smart enough and tripped. The imperialist influence bought was a cause for instability. A natural peace based on mutual needs is more likely to last. The sooner Britain, France and USA butt out the better
9. The truth of the matter
Gee ,   Zikron Yaakov   (08.18.13)
Is that this is very similar to what would have happened in Germany in say 1936 if the Heere had the guts to remove the government. There is little to no difference
10. #7, no it wasn't
Danny   (08.18.13)
US aid to Egypt started in 1970 after Nasser's death. It grew after the 1973 war. What changed in 1979 is they got Military aid. Egypt hasnt attacked Israel for the same reason Syria hasn't
11. Map of Interest Why EGYPT needs Al Sisi and the Army
DANNS ,   ROU- MONTEVIDEO   (08.18.13)
West big Powers had lost touch and Understanding in the COMPLEX Middle EAST Religious political and economic affairs.(not only USA President).Egyptian Army and nationalist civilians are struggling with confused but armed MB supporters misguided may be by Teheran and its ideologyEgypt need not no loose its Independent country leader in the Arab world towards may be confused MB supporters
12. US EU lost their compass
Ibrahim el-Awal ,   USA   (08.18.13)
Putin is waiting. Soon with American help Egypt will be pushed once again into Russian influence.
13. Egypt
Etienne Prinsloo ,   Nova Scotia Canada   (08.18.13)
Obama suffered a major blow when his favourite Brotherhood was swept from office after a year of religious oppression especially -of the Copts and catastrophic economic policies. He now has to stand by his man Morsi, it would appear. I fail to understand how transferring masses of American military high tech to every second Muslim country in the ME benefits Israel. The arms sales are all about money and keeping the big US arms manufacturers happy. There was a referendum in Cairo yesterday where, within hours, 300000 Egyptians told the US to go home and stay home. Maybe the time has come for America to realize that haphazzard intervention is worse than no intervention at all. Obama was so smug after Mubarak was toppled; is Egypt a better place for the man in the street today?
14. dear US congress....
les ,   canada   (08.18.13)
for those wanting to cut aid to egypt because their army shooting terrorist (armed or unarmed) is cutting your nose off inspite of your face. of course you also want to eliminate the budget for the US army, for killing civilians in iraq, afghanistan, pakistan, yemen at al.... think before you speak (nonesense)
15. as-Sisi' got guts
Madeleine ,   Israel   (08.18.13)
At least he has the guts to tell Hussein Obama to stop interfering in Egypt's affairs. shame our leaders didn't h ave the guts to do the same vis-a vis the shameful prisoner release. If America really doesn Egypt as much as it would seem (from this article, anyway), Obama will find a way to come to terms with the situation there.
16. Islam is not the solution
Mark ,   London, UK   (08.18.13)
US aid is only military aid (a sort of subsidy to the arms industry). It's dwarfed by the aid from Saudi and Qatar which itself makes no dent on the population as a whole. I would put an arms embargo on the country and refuse to deal with any of the businesses owned by the army. Once the tourist industry has collapsed Egypt will be back to relying on dates. Islam doesn't have any solutions for a country of 90m people that cannot feed itself. There will be riots in the streets long before the Islamists get to the end of their first term in office.
17. all I will say is this
Matt   (08.18.13)
Sometimes what you try to prevent is what you end up creating. These action were to prevent an Islamic Revolution which would have been stopped at the ballot box anyhow. While the crackdown, which is now a war against Islam not the Brotherhood may well lead to what they tried to prevent. The protestors on both sides are blaming the US and Israel, when it has nothing to do with them, it is the Gulf Arabs. There is no side to back, no one is right, they all share a point of blame the players in Egypt.
18. Paul Rand is Weakening the USA.
Zechariah   (08.18.13)
Paul Rand is an isolationist protecting the Rich Paying Full Taxes for the Common Good and US Power both Military and Socioeconomic.Worse his group attacks the Jewish Lobby which helped enormously in Military Science to Maintain the US SuperPower Status with Russia.
