miki ,   tampa   (08.19.13)
in useless wars of intervention in the Middle East-give them more money or take some away - nuke them! - you have plenty of options.
3. it seems that dictatorship or an
Barney ,   USA   (08.19.13)
autocratic government is the only thing that works in these arab countries. they don't think like us. given their freedoms their countries turn to murderous chaos. they all hate each other. they hate everyone else. they enjoy subjugation and living the sharia lifestyle. it is really useless for the USA to try and change them. sad

Well said ! Bravo ,the west is trying to change their minds but its impossible . And number 3 let me add 1 more thing... They don't even know what they want They don't work ,they are bored and they follow their stupid leader who hides in a bunker. This is what they teach them in mosques (to kill) But don't worry it says in our holly Torah that when before the mashiah will come .they will fall from your left a 1000 and from your right 10 000 and nothing will happend to you ,only with your eyes you will see
5. OMG! Hagel is so lame. His statements = nothing.
Harry Wright ,   UK   (08.19.13)
I think he said that because a statement is expected from him. Only problem is, he can't think of anything to say. So he goes back to the timeworn "inclusive" approach. He is tone deaf and has not yet heard that Morsi/MB is not interested in that. Maybe the message will take a year to reach Washington. Meanwhile, he is impervious to the fact that he sounds ridiculous. Israel should not even bother about peace talks either - not with all this mayhem with its neighbours and the future being so uncertain. The amazing thing is that during the year that Morsi was in power, he showed in no uncertain terms to the US how arrogant, disdainful and anti-American he was. He had to backtrack on his statements when he got calls from the WH. Sisi would be a better person for the US to do business with yet he is not supported by Obama. So amazing yet not surprising, even though the MB is persecuting the Christians in the most tragic and despicable manner. 10% of the population living in fear and anxiety as they are terrorized because of their religious beliefs. The muslim-in-chief will not utter a word in sympathy or support.
6. U.S. influence limited?
Devorah   (08.19.13)
It was not limited when Obama made his 2009 Cairo speech, and it was not limited when he screamed at Mubarak to step down because he wanted the MB in power. The only thing that is limited is Egypt's receptiveness to Obama and his plans to reinstate the MB and/or include it in the government. The Egyptian military's neutering of Obama's delusional ideations must have him one infantile outburst away from a strait jacket at this point.
7.  " LIMITED "
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED OBVIOUS HOUSE   (08.19.13)
Chuck Hagels' intelligence is ,sadly ," limited."
8. @3 Not quite so
daz ,   uk   (08.19.13)
It's US intervention that Arab countries have never realised their dream of democracy. Look what they did in South America, who are now finally free of US hegemony. In true imperialist style America has always squashed Arab nationalism by creating sectarian divisions like they did in Iraq.
9. I don't understand...
A ,   Belgium   (08.20.13)
Oblabla has chosen giving Egypt, yet another Middle East country quickly decaying from the curse called "islam", as is Syria, Yemen, Somalia, and others yet to follow, under the completely ridiculous pretense of "efforts to secure an Israeli-Palestinian peace.", their annual handout of $1.3 bil, with no substantial return on the investment. (I'm not going to mention Israel, and what the US GAINS from its investments there) . Now what I don't understand is, why is the US, whose Middle East foreign policy has been a complete failure (see, Iraq, Iran, Afghanistan, Libya, etc.), willing to contnue to give Egypt a whole bunch of US$'s, which could probably be put to better use in the US, in order to "secure an Israeli-Palestinian peace.", when "palestinians" are sneaking into Sinai and murdering Egyptian police. I don't get it.
10. #3 - I thought you were talking about the US under Obama :-)

11. A SINCERE APOLOGY
TEL EM STRAIGHT ,   SAFED OBVIOUS HOUSE   (08.20.13)
I sincerely apologise to Mr. Hagel for erroneously implying that his " intelligence " was somehow insufficient .What I meant to say was that our intelligence of what is happening in Egypt is scant and limited because cameramen are being killed and targeted there for example. Mr Hagel is correct / bang on when he stated that influence on egypt was limited ,because each faction in Egypt is fighting for survival and a power struggle is taking place. Hagel is no fool.

14. Sisi, Mubarak and Israel understand the ME
Michael Peter Redbou ,   Lisbon Portugal   (08.20.13)
The Muslim Brotherhood only understands the iron fist! The US and the EU are clueless about Muslims. The EU should know better of course since most of it will be Islamic in 20 years if their governments don't start expelling Muslims very very soon!
15. #2 - if you so want more dead humans, then
spyguy ,   seattle   (08.20.13)
go to any US gun show, buy an AK-47 and "invade" Egypt on your own. But if you were just venting, then you might want to realize that just as Hagle pointed out, the US has NO OPTIONS. BTW - if the US nukes Egypt, it will contaminate Israel and its food sources.
16. The MB is drunk on blood.
Israeli ,   Haifa   (08.20.13)
Just like Hamas, Hezbullah and the PLO before them.
