Tim ,   Brighton   (08.22.13)
To build a Desal Plant in Aquaba why cant we build one in Eilat to supply Jordan and indeed Egyptian Sinai Hopefully we could power this Plant via Solar and employ new super efficient Membranes that would reduce unit prices dramatically We could even ex Eilat serve as a Regional Water Hub for Modern Day Water Barges that could be run by Jordanian and Egyptian Barge Operators to collect and transport emergency fresh water to deliver all along the East African Coast and remote parts of the Saudi Arabian Peninsula Coastline More imagination less procrastination!
6. Crocodile tears
God'sway   (08.22.13)
pretending they need water from Israel but they should tell EU not to boycott Israel goods if they sincerely need water from Israel and they should obey the biblical borders of Israel - so give up Israel lands Jordan including that of Ruben, Gad and Manasseh until then no water business with Jordan.
7. this deal must not be allowed israel looses from it
zionist forever   (08.22.13)
What about the Israeli farmers who rely on the Kineret water? Unlike desalinated water the Kinneret relies on rainfall and if you pump more than a certain amount you damage the lake and make it impossible for anybody to use it. If we don't do this deal we can pump all we need for domestic needs and leave it at that. We also have our own desalination plants so there is no benefit to Israel for this water exchange although it may well end up costing Israel more money by pumping desalinated Jordanian water from Aqaba in the south to the Galilee in Israel's north so to save Jordan money it may actually cost Israeli taxpayers money. Whats next are we going to start sharing the Kineret with the palestinians in the name of peace?i NO TRADE LET JORDAN MAKE AND TRANSPORT THEIR OWN WATER,
8. #7 Zionist forever - since when do you pay tax

10. Draining the Kinneret and paying for the privilege
Raymond in DC ,   Washington, USA   (08.22.13)
Several Israeli news sites regularly post readings from the Kinneret - how close to the lower red or black lines - as a sign of its status. Too low and the lake will die. Yet Israel is considering further draining the lake, and for what? "Improving ties between Israel and Jordan"? It gets worse. According to JPost, Israel will sell that water for less than NIS 0.5 per cm, but buy Jordan's desalinated water for NIS 5 per cm! Bromberg of FoE says "the project exempts Israel from the need to build its own desalination plant in Eilat". Really? Is Israel, among the world's experts in desalination, incapable of replacing the old plant in Eilat with one using current technology? According to one report from 2011, Israel's cost of desalination is NIS 2.5-3.1 per cm. So why would Israel pay NIS 5 per cm for Jordanian water? This coming deal appears to rest on political, not economic, considerations - relations with Jordan most obviously.

I never cease to be amazed by the number of talkbackers here who are clearly in need of psychiatric treatment
12. Eilat desal plant
Shlomo ,   Israel   (08.22.13)
There already is one, and all of Eilat drinks desalinated water. Eilats pretty much filled to the brim with resorts... Space on the coast is really expensive and i doubt they want a big project to expand it or build a new one in the resort town. So its cheaper to build right next door in aqaba... And jordans our only neighbor who honors their agreements with israel so why not nurture that alliance? I wasnt too happy to read that were giving them water but helping each other to cut the costs of water transport could work so why not give it a chance?

"Yeh righ, like you and your lik pay tax don't make me laugh" Please enlighten me who are my like and why exactly do you believe I scrounge and sponge. You make alot of accusations but you don't explain how you came to these conclusions, sounds like children name calling to me. Do have a good day won't you
14. Desalinating water takes a lot of electricity.
Michael ,   California, USA   (08.22.13)
Jordan will need a power plant for desalination, which will require oil from imports to run it, and it will generate air pollution, noise, waste, etc.. I imagine the costs in this swap of water will even out between Jordan and Israel. Water availability in the Eilat region can spur development in the region, definitely agriculture, but also housing development throughout the Negev desert. Moreover, it demonstrates that lasting peace agreements can deliver great benefits to the region. This complicated deal demonstrates that Israel and Jordan have shed legacies of conflicts between them forever and the two countries are able to cooperate and coexist in peace. Bravo, bravo.
15. Desal water to Israel is like shipping coals to Newcastle
Jake   (08.22.13)
Why would Israel need to import desalinated water from Jordan, when it is already a regional hub for desalination plants? In fact, Eilat already has the "Sabcha C", a commercial desalination plant that operates by reverse osmosis. The Kinneret water, on the other hand, is a scarce and valuable commodity and Israel can't afford to export one drop. There is also the minor detail that the said desalination plant in Jordan does not yet exist. Jordan needs $5 billion from the World Bank, but does not meet the conditions, and must come up with $2.6 billion of its own money, which it doesn't have. It's seems to me more logical for Israel to EXPORT desalinated water to Jordan...that is, if Jordan can afford it.
16. Desalination plants already exist in Eilat.
Jake   (08.22.13)
Mekorot’s Sabcha C Seawater Desalination Plant in Eilat, Israel’s first commercial RO facility, is the only desalination plant in the world that treats a mixture of sea water and reject brine from an adjacent brackish water desalination facility. In fact, the first ever desalination plant in Israel was built in Eilat in 1964.
17. So IF my car is OUT of gas--then-Saudi will fill-it !!

HELL PERPETUATES ITSELF ALSO GOD WANTS HIS CHILDREN TO COME TO HIM FOR HEALING NOT RUN TO SATAN-WORLD PHARMACIES IE. 70,000 INOCULATED INTO SATAN'S KINGDOM TODAY IF PHARMACY WALKS WITH FATHER GOD=CHRIST-FINE BUT STILL WE DON'T NEED DRUGS FOREIGN ANTIGENS FORCED INTO OUR BODIES PSALM 91..NO PLAGUE WILL COME NIGH OUR DWELLING IF..WE ARE LIVING PURE-HOLY- IN OBEDIENCE TO FATHER GOD it is written BUT IF PHARMACY & THOSE WHO HANDLE-MAKE DRUG ARE NOT WALKING CLOSE WITH GOD =THEY & DRUG ARE DEFILED BASIC BIBLE..
19. #14 Nothing of the kind, and it's obvious
A ,   Belgium   (08.23.13)
The little king is scared. He rules over a "palestinian" majority, and now he has Syrian refugees flowing into Jordan who may support a "palestinian" takeover of his country. So what does he do...the enemy of my enemy is my friend, he starts making deals with Israel, the only quiet neighbor he has. This is not about peace, this is not about development, this is about..."you're going to give them a state, right? I'll give you desalinated water that isn't fit for pigs to drink. But they WILL have a state, right? They won't take my kingdom away, right? Let's be friends, ok?" It's all so shallow and fake, as can only be expected from Adullah, king of "palestine".
